What’s fresh about it? The lack of a central story? The copy/paste cities? The generic gameplay? There’s no soul to this game. And owning territory doesn’t really matter aside from a few perks. Just colors on a map.
@@happyaccident8001 Absolutely nothing fresh about the game. Nothing remotely special. And yet it doesnt feel generic. For most of the time i feel like im playing a premium game. 119 hours in and I definitely enjoy the game. But i agree with what you said about the quests needing more lol they definitely get more tough around level 25 but the quests in general are very repetitive. Beautiful mmo though, interesting enemies and definitely a blast to play in a group.
I bought this game after watching a friend play it for a couple hours and heard him tell me how much he loves it. I can honestly say that I do not regret buying it one bit. I have only put in about 8 hours but I have loved every moment that I have spent in the world. I love that your not forced to focus on one thing. I agree that the story and questing is a bit boring. The beauty and the amount of other things you can do is what keeps me coming back. I am not a pvp person so I doubt I will be participating in any of that stuff. Still worth the money!!
while you do get used to enemy types as you level up enemies start using different scarier attacks to throw you off a bit but ye deffo more fun with friends especially the expeditions aka dungeons.
the game is really awesome and has a lot of potential something Id like to see is mounts in the game and bigger world expansion, with more storyline. Another cool idea for a game like this would be to put more npc that kind of replicate real people to make it more lively. But the NPCs should be distinguishable too. Also I love your take on the whole game. Ive got 30 hrs in the game right now and I love it. If anyone players I'm in celadon-west coast server names Greg Rexes in game lol
I have really enjoyed this game, a few friends and some grinding and it is hours upon hours of fun. get into the faction stuff and it adds a lot of life, crafting is good, and there is always something to do.
I am going to create a character called Benny Bezos and form a brigade called the “Bezos Brigade” TOO be part of this brigade you have to let money corrupt your soul and view the rest of humanity as mere ants!!!
Dude I see a plant or a tree or a rock and I'm off and then a wolf and then etc etc it's really nice seeing the levels go up too, yay dopamine. But yah my add brain is having a blast too!
60 hours - just under lvl 30 - focused on gathering and crafting - almost all of those just hitting 100 - i love the feel of the game - bunch of bugs - but i’m sure they’ll fix them they’re probably simple to fix - like selling on MB - an item i sell to a buy order still shows it can be sold - until you close window and open again. i love the old feel of the gathering - and like you said the crafting can seem immense - but yeah you work it out as you level. it has a way to go - but i like the slow burn.
I'm going to give this game a go. I just now started playing MMO's and really getting into that style of game, and I think it would be fun to jump in with it being fairly new, so I can experience it as well as expansions firsthand with everyone else. From videos, it looks beautiful for an MMO style game.
Grinded 140 hours already in this game and all I can say is it rekindled my love for MMORPG again. A few bugs here and there but that can be fixed. Hope they would add dedicated servers to certain regions though as the ping is crucial in PVPs and Wars.
@@pizzakungen92 dedicated pvp servers. Right now it's a mix of pvp and pve players. PvP servers would generally run lower latency, or be dedicated. But I'm pretty sure he's just talking about dedicated pvp servers. New world does not run on p2p lol, that would mean extreme lag 100x worse than what we've got now, don't worry haha.
One good thing about the game is that you're really WORKING for your levels. It's not something to where you're power-leveling 2-4x every hour. The traveling sucks ass but so far I'm only 8 hours deep and level 16 but I'm enjoying it. Another annoying thing are trolls. You can't server swap your character to avoid people in areas so you have to literally deal with someone who's fucking up your quest by killing the mobs/boss/looting or skinning what you need. Edit: I'm lvl 32 and it's getting a bit repetitive, but once you have the items for expeditions and the Azoth staff, you can do corrupted portals and finally move up to Brightwood and see other areas of the map than just ever fall and what's below. Edit again: level 41 and another nuisance is having certain storyline quests requore partying to complete them. Other than that, still good.
Yeah they definitely need to get a better trading system, I’m a big OSRS player and before as well, it’s pulled me away from OSRS for a little bit but they definitely need to update certain things a lot more to make people quit the games they’ve been currently playing for years and join new world as consistent long term players.
@@nashsingh9177 IMO this trading system is Better. Each settlement having its own separate economy is great and makes it so all items hold their value more consistently. I can go to 1 place buy stuff for real cheap in bulk, move to an area where those things are less common and sell for a flip
i do not have any friend whos gonna buy this at least for now and i still gonna play because i never played similar MMOs...i think its pretty fun and the only thing that makes me worry a little bit is the appearence of the character :D im gonna have the same char for ever so i kinda need something to make it special :P
@Hill the mmos I've played are guild wars, guild wars 2, ESO, BDO, runescape, and star wars old republic. Eso gets boring after a little bit and BDO is just fucking bad ngl
@Hill Yeah new world is either a hit or miss with some people, I agree that the other games are better. I'll see how long new world will be fun for me haha! Currently I am playing with my uncle so maybe that's why I enjoy it so much. Anyways good luck in your future mmoing!
I have 72 hours in the game so far. It's a fun experience. I love leveling. But pvp really don't come until you are higher level. Like in the 40s. Which will take time. You get clapped otherwise. It does need some kind of mount system. But it's a fun game. I am part of a company and it's great to be part of tbis community.
Unfortunately I don’t think they will ever add mounts at least not for a long time. If they just threw mounts into the game as it is then it would totally break the fast travel/gathering/leveling economy of the game. World traversal is a huge part of that and all the time u take to travel around is factored into the overall game balancing. Not saying they can’t add mounts or they shouldn’t (personally I wish we had em) but I’m not holding my breath.
Can't have mounts yet because it will cut the game time to completion by a good 50% maybe more. The game is empty and boring. It needed open world PvP to carry it, without it, its a walking simulator. I honestly understand them stripping out the full loot aspects but allowing PvP to be toggled off without having more fleshed out PvE content and interesting quests was a big mistake.
@@Alias_Reign it’s fine honestly this game has honestly amazing crafting and gathering so I still have a lot of fun, their also planning a massive expansion to the map and quests based on a data mine.
My only complaints are how the faction system works, as many servers are super unbalanced (due to streamers/famous players getting everyone to join their faction and overtaking everything) and the pvp/wars. PVP is almost always off on most players and when it is on its a huge group of players. Wars are fun but getting in one is hard as the guilds tend to pick their friends over other people, even if a random person may be more qualified.
The quests aren't too bad, because you can explore and gather resources whist travelling to your destination, getting a lot of new quests and altering your path slightly. If you just went from A to B and back to A obviously it would be boring. But A to C then D then E and then B is much better
Thanks for the Before you buy. Always enjoy them. I've been playing FF and this just scratches a different itch. I like it a lot and it totally has potential. What's extra good about it is that it doesn't have a monthly fee. So even if time is a factor you can totally have another MMO active that has a fee without getting poor :).
@@followthewhiterabbit1089 never heard of it. Looks just like a mix of ark and new world if you ask me (based on 5min of watching some footage) would rather play ark 2 when that releases lmao

But you didn’t even touch upon or show the weapon skills pages. That’s the most important part of character building/identity. As you said you don’t pick a class, your weapons are your class basically… imo it’s important to highlight that in a review.
I really enjoy playing it actually. I setup my discord with my buds and some chill lo-fi tunes to set the vibe and we just grind the game. I wanted to look for an alternative from Destiny 2 (every time a new season ends it gets boring) and this just fits perfectly. Black desert bored me and the mechanics were a bit harder to get used to. FFXIV is very complicated as you level up and requires more time to grind before you do anything interesting. This game, for its first stages, has very good performance, good graphics, great world ecology, and a decent amount of crafting, cooking, trading, and more things you can do in cities.
I really want to pick this up when I can. I've been craving a new MMO for years but with how busy adult life is, can't justify spending $15 a month for the subscription most MMOs have. Seeing a good one without a subscription is really exciting.
@Hill I get it, you're not happy with modern MMOs, i don't like most of them either. Doesn't mean you should go ranting at everyone who's trying to enjoy the game about how bad you think it is. Stop trying to put people off, let them enjoy it, even if only temporarily
I'm a HUGE fan of ESO and this game just keeps drawing me back to it over ESO. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly keeps me coming back, but I can't go more than a couple days without playing or I start to get withdrawals lol
My twin sister and I grew up playing games together. After years of growing up, and growing apart she eventually lost her love of games - even though she has a gaming PC it mostly sits unused. Last week we spent over 2 hours together with her showing me her character, how to play the game, and teaching me how to play. I could tell she was so enthusiastic about this game and so happy to have someone to talk with about it. This game is great 👍.
A suggestion if possible. Please include server regions where they are located. I live in SEA region and the server for New World are not here as I read last time.
240 hours into this game, when it first realse, I grind so hard to get to lv60, how im in constant war/invasion and its sooo much fun. Just spend the entire evening planing strats with companies in the same faction or sometimes with other factions as well.
I don't mind the grind, but the lack of enemy variety is mind numbing. There's also some design decisions that are really questionable. The fast travel limitations sucks, it's crazy expensive to jump anywhere. Much less moving any gear from town to town. You want to buy something on market in another town? Just forget about it. You have to pay the excessive fast travel cost, back and forth. Then there's buying a house, the taxes you have to continually pay are absolutely insane. Basically it forces you into yet another grind, you can't pay your weekly taxes, you loose access to your house. Also, the instances require you to craft super expensive keys to get into. Keys that are consumed on use. Since it's only one player in a group that needs to use theirs, every time you want to run an instance means negotiating with some random group which player is going to use their key. It's just awful. If they just fixed those things I could grind away at the rest of it, but those things a major problems imho.
I like the fact that travel is restricted. It restricts ability to quickly gather forces for pvp. It also enforces local economy. Buying things cheap in a region where they are plentiful and selling them in a region that they are not is only viable because of the restriction on fast travel.
I’m someone who has never really gone near or got into MMO’s and was wondering if this would be a good place to start. Games I tend to play are open world adventures and Soulsborne games but I’m really on edge with buying this
The game is fun. the 2nd time i logged into the game, a high level player randomly requested a trade, gave me 100 health potions, said he crafted too many and its too heavy.
Just about 100 hours in and at level 44, the grind is REAL, as you said it needs more variety in quests and gameplay, but the PVP is great! I do wish there was some type of mount or glider that we could us. walking back and forth to the same area to do a different fetch quest gets old (This doesn't really change in the higher level zones). But I have the benefit of playing with my pocket healer GF :D
I’m only about 14 hours in. Only played RuneScape when i was younger. I like the game. People are very cool. Someone gave me free items in the town and i asked them to leash me for XP with their fights. Fighting enemies way out of your lvl range does not bless your xp, but your weapon xp yes. Maybe other games were like it where if you just want a bunch of XP you cut trees for 3 hours and do a main quest. Wars are awesome looking. I can’t participate yet, but i watched a stream and it’s very organized. A company leader and squad leaders were all in a discord chat with grunts listening. If you have been interested in an mmo then play it. I have no complaints besides being a miner/lumberjack simulator secondarily.
This has been the one MMO to get me hooked like this. GW2 and WoW pulled me in but never had me spending all day every second I can trying to play the game. Fucking wonderful job Amazon honestly
I’ve forever sworn off MMO’s because of the life sinking time commitment, but I still can’t help the morbid curiosity around watching this game evolve from an outsider’s perspective.
Maybe give it a while because the time/life sink you mention is a really big thing in this game not just leveling but pretty much everything. I have gotten quest to walk 1.8Km walk back to town and then go back a whole 1.8Km to do the exact same thing, then return to town again. I'm lvl 53 and I have given up for the time being.
Now the game is the best mmo ever made. Had a fantastic foundation and the developers have genuinely built upon that. By summer next year, this will be the game to play. Never seen a game with such great updates. Marketing for the expansion is flying under the radar, but I personally feel that AGS is gearing up for even bigger updates next year.
I havent picked this up yet, I play a lot of WoW/FF14/ESO etc and I don't know, theres still something off about this from all the videos I've seen and streams I've watched that still put me off getting it just yet. I can't quite put my finger on it. I want to like it, because I have that constant MMO players itch of wanting to play something new, but this just isn't scratching that for me. You're welcome to encourage me to give it a go!
Warning: If your buying this for the PVP, don't bother because it's super broken. They just fixed an invincibility exploit....one of many used to win war and take territories from other factions. There's also a lag bug the attacking party regularly uses....Exploits are so openly used in taking hard earned territories that it's not uncommon to see one color controlling an entire map by simply using hacks/exploits to rob you of a fair fight for your territory... If you care about PVP at all don't buy this game because it has serious game breaking exploits that are regularly used in pvp and will be seen all over streams.
you are talking about war.. and yeah a little broken with a exploit they should fix. I have not seen this exploit yet but im sure people are using it.. this is your opinion so weird to say if you care about pvp don't buy this game LOL
@@bobbythorton7693 I have personally seen it, and not just one or two guys...no...if it were just that then I wouldn't be complaining. This isn't an opinion, this is a fact and all you have to do is go watch streamed wars too see it for yourself. Not every company in a faction is doing it. In fact it's normally just one were they deliberately tell their players to do these things. The fact is that the Developers have openly admitted to people using invincibility to win wars, while at the same time not offering any plans on doing anything about the territories they won by using these exploits.
This one’s a tough call for me. I honestly think it looks really cool but I do worry about what the future of the game will be like which I think is a big factor in whether or not I get it. Edit: Also I really appreciate the review Jake! There’s so many half decent reviews right now so it’s nice to have a source I trust.
I have been playing since the first weekend and im at lvl 37 atm, my advice for whatever its worth to you lol is to buy the game now. Its just 40 dollars and in my opinion in the state the game is in, its worth the 40 dollars, and the more people that play now the more chances the game will be better in the future and live longer!
@@marcms25 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. I think I’ll end up getting it seeing as overall I’ve seen a lot of good things and people are having fun.
the thing I like the most about new world is it has a ton of potential, the only issue I had was the que time. that's pretty good if the biggest issue is that they have too few servers. I like the combat, the dungeons are unique in that they are not just run from one end to other, one dung you have to clear an area, climb some stuff then come back to an earlier part. the mobs get pretty repetitive but I like the crafting so I spend most my time farming. I've played most mmos other than runescape, the big ones from day 1 release. This game feels like i can just change what I want to do at anytime. the crafting is amazing. once you understand how different mats make better versions of the lower gear, you can score some serious gold in lower zones as long as new players are coming in.
I’m currently lv41 and has reached lv100 mark in most of the gatherskills I haven’t dad any problems with crashes etc with that being said maybe the game is made for 1920x1080. The quests really gets better throughout the game although a lot of enemies stay the same wit added powers/abilities which make the game a little grindy
FF14 already did the legwork to show just how well an MMO could work on a console. I hope at least the new gen systems get this sometime to really expand the playerbase.
I'm level 23 at the moment and I believe I've only fought five or six different monsters. This name really needs a lot more variety in the enemy department.
I been playing this game non stop for the week I got it, and I can say that it is a game moved by the players, everything you do gives exp to something so there’s progress no matter what you do, community is majority friendly they always down to help out, the weapon system I feel is well balanced and combat feels a bit Dark soul style, there’s small mechanics I enjoy like armor weight affecting character, and a few others but I truly enjoy this game.
I picked it up after watching the first hour or so of gameplay, and I'm enjoying it. Biggest draw for me is the lack of a subscription fee. I'm playing super casually, so I wouldn't be able to justify an ongoing charge for this. Been spending a lot of time out in the world collecting materials and crafting things, which does a decent job of leveling me up, but it's a bit limiting playing this way because I need more materials and have to roam into territory that's more challenging combat wise than I'm prepared for. Community so far has been pretty good, generally helpful. Did run across one girl offering...services...for gold. Just ran up to me and asked me on proximity voice chat, which was a little weird, then ran around the rest of town and kept asking when I declined. XD
Beware, while the game IS fun, great crafting, fun gameplay but causes many freezes and crashes on many PCs. It’s a gamble to purchase it. Game beeds to be optimized.

I hope it comes to PS4 or PS5
while you do get used to enemy types as you level up enemies start using different scarier attacks to throw you off a bit but ye deffo more fun with friends especially the expeditions aka dungeons.

the game is really awesome and has a lot of potential something Id like to see is mounts in the game and bigger world expansion, with more storyline.

I only have about 50 hours into it, but I really enjoy it. There’s so much to do crafting wise, that my ADD mind never gets bored.
I am going to create a character called Benny Bezos and form a brigade called the “Bezos Brigade”

Hey Jake, which server do you play on? Do you play in East US in the Oceana server perhaps?
Grinded 140 hours already in this game and all I can say is it rekindled my love for MMORPG again. A few bugs here and there but that can be fixed. Hope they would add dedicated servers to certain regions though as the ping is crucial in PVPs and Wars.
Hol' up. They arent using dedicated servers? Are they using P2P?
@@pizzakungen92 dedicated pvp servers. Right now it's a mix of pvp and pve players. PvP servers would generally run lower latency, or be dedicated. But I'm pretty sure he's just talking about dedicated pvp servers.
New world does not run on p2p lol, that would mean extreme lag 100x worse than what we've got now, don't worry haha.
Once you get really good with the musket, you can unlock the ar15
And can add a bumpstock
First time 2020 PC buyer here! Any full setup recommendations?
Has so much of a runescape feeling
I couldn't disagree more. Besides mining and chopping trees, this game has nothing in common with Runescape.
If it was more like RuneScape it would be better the grand exchange is much better then trading post
@@SirDiamondNips one interpretation
Yeah they definitely need to get a better trading system, I’m a big OSRS player and before as well, it’s pulled me away from OSRS for a little bit but they definitely need to update certain things a lot more to make people quit the games they’ve been currently playing for years and join new world as consistent long term players.
@@nashsingh9177 IMO this trading system is Better. Each settlement having its own separate economy is great and makes it so all items hold their value more consistently. I can go to 1 place buy stuff for real cheap in bulk, move to an area where those things are less common and sell for a flip

@Hill it's actually better than I thought it would be. I've played a lot of mmos and new world is probably in my top 5

*Ignore this "Hill" guy, His account is literally a couple days old only made to troll and sh/t on New World.*
I like the look and sounds like a lot of fun, just wasn't sure about the PvP aspect of it but I might give it a try.
With the marketplace, can multiple ppl buy the items put up by other players? Or once it gets bought its gone?
I have 72 hours in the game so far. It's a fun experience. I love leveling. But pvp really don't come until you are higher level. Like in the 40s. Which will take time. You get clapped otherwise. It does need some kind of mount system. But it's a fun game. I am part of a company and it's great to be part of tbis community.
What’s tbis
Dammn my bro grinding hard

Another great episode Jake!!
thanks!
@Dedue Do bruh that happen 3 yrs ago lmao. Who cares now. Has anything like that happen recently?
I really want to pick this up when I can. I've been craving a new MMO for years but with how busy adult life is, can't justify spending $15 a month for the subscription most MMOs have. Seeing a good one without a subscription is really exciting.
Busy adult life goes pretty well with New world! Fast leveling.. I get around 1-2 hours of playtime during the afternoon and im having a blast

Why you created Freddie Mercury and called him a idiot...what a savage this dude
I've never played an MMO. Would this be a good first one to try out? Or is there a better bang for my buck out there
A suggestion if possible.
Is this or will this be on consoles? My pc cant keep up with games any more. Not with the new console gen out. I do have a ps5 though.
I’m someone who has never really gone near or got into MMO’s and was wondering if this would be a good place to start.
Games I tend to play are open world adventures and Soulsborne games but I’m really on edge with buying this
I need another mmo where i can feel the risk/reward of os runescape wilderness pvp
This is unrelated to what you just commented but you should check out Lost Ark it's a gem of a game and amazon is scared that it will overtake NW
The game is fun. the 2nd time i logged into the game, a high level player randomly requested a trade, gave me 100 health potions, said he crafted too many and its too heavy.
That sounds fun! Is this on console?
Pc only.

I have not seen this exploit yet but im sure people are using it.. this is your opinion
so weird to say if you care about pvp don't buy this game LOL
@@bobbythorton7693 I have personally seen it, and not just one or two guys...no...if it were just that then I wouldn't be complaining. This isn't an opinion, this is a fact and all you have to do is go watch streamed wars too see it for yourself. Not every company in a faction is doing it. In fact it's normally just one were they deliberately tell their players to do these things. The fact is that the Developers have openly admitted to people using invincibility to win wars, while at the same time not offering any plans on doing anything about the territories they won by using these exploits.

the thing I like the most about new world is it has a ton of potential, the only issue I had was the que time. that's pretty good if the biggest issue is that they have too few servers.

XD
