    What I love about Blender 2D animation is that it's actually very similar to the 2D software I use now: Anime Studio Pro 11. It's five years out of date but works like a charm. However what I noticed for Blender is that it's very similar. It even has the "points" around the edges of shapes much like Anime Studio does. Once I learn more about Blender I might try 2D animation on there. Thanks for the tutorials! They're a lot of help :)

    My question might seem dumb (I am not an artist, but programmer). I am trying to bone-rig a 2d character which walks. I have created the body parts in different layers and stored it on .psd file. How do I import it to Blender for the bone rigging ? Also, can we store our animations as .png frames in blender ? My Unity plugin needs that...

    • @Learn2Animate
      @Learn2Animate  Před 3 lety

      Save each layer from Photoshop as a separate transparent PNG and then you can import into Blender: Check out this video czcams.com/video/tB4ddlhZ2ZI/video.html Here we import from Illustrator but same process. Yes you can render out a PNG sequence so you can import and compose in any editor of your choice. czcams.com/video/Rcnue47usSY/video.html This shows you how to render a transparent PNG but a single image. All you have to do is switch it to animation instead of image. 👍😎

    Nice easy to understand tutorial for a beginner like me. However, I cannot resolve an issue with the head and neck. I downloaded and opened the start up file. Followed the guidance, but have got stuck on the face/neck area. The object named as the neck is actually the shadow, and the neck is highlighted when selecting the head in object mode. I'm using 2.93. I have got everything else working as it should, except, as the real neck is a fixed part of the head, it means the head swivels from the actual neck (not shadow). I'm new to all this, but I believe there may be a problem with the template, or there is a simple solution, which I have been unable to discover. Any help please, thanks.

    Hey there - great tutorial! I have a question - if you have multiple grease pencils, how do you determine which grease pencil is on top of other ones? And is it possible to change the order?
    When I tried to create a character, I used a single grease pencil, but then made each body part a different layer in that single grease pencil object. That way I can control which body part is on top of another. This helps when doing e.g. a 3/4 walk cycle - e.g. controlling which leg is in front / on top of the other. But I can't work out how to do this if each body part is a different Grease Pencil.
    Sorry if I'm not explaining this clearly or using the correct terms.

      Blender is a 3D program. When you use the 2D features "Grease Pencil" You still have access to all of the 3D features. So Yes, you can animate a 2D character in a 3D environment and it's easy and fun. Check this video: czcams.com/video/T5ERy-22nuc/video.html Let me know if this helps. 😎

    Hi! Thanks to you, I can now rig and animate with no trouble - thanks! But I can only do it in strokes; if I color the objects in draw mode and then add the armature and continue with the process, the color does not stick to the bones in Pose mode. When I color other objects, they move in edit mode. the only time I've had this trouble is in animation. I've tried using the fill tool with box vertex color and materials color, but nothing works. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Learn2Animate
      @Learn2Animate  Před 3 lety

      Try adding the fill to the stroke and then after the character is completely done, then you rig. For this one, you need to add the fill to the vertex group the the bone is affecting. might be easier to just rig again. 👍

    I have downloaded your starting project and painstakingly followed the tutorial a number of times, but when I enter pose mode the character never moves. If I move the entire armature then the character follows it, but selecting an individual bone and moving it just causes movement in the bone but not the associated body part. I had followed a similar tutorial earlier and got the same result. I guess the issue is in the assigning of the bone to the part, but I have followed that section twice now, double-checking each assignment. Is there some way of verifying the relationship after the assignment? If I start grease pencil and do a simple shape with two or three bones it seems to work, but anything more elaborate than this results in the behaviour I describe where the armature does not appear to move the body part when I go to pose mode.

    • @seanosuilleabhainemerald
      @seanosuilleabhainemerald Před 2 lety +4

      I think the issue is that I am selecting a body part in object mode and then tabbing into edit mode. When I do the assignment the part is not actually being associated with the armature. Blender does not seem to provide any acknowledgement that I can see. So now I select the body part, tab into edit mode, reselect the part in edit mode, then do the assignment. This seems to work.

    • @Learn2Animate
      @Learn2Animate  Před 3 lety +1

      OK, so you need to 1. Select the GreasePencil Object, 2. Shift Select the Armature 3. Parent with empty groups. This is what creates the Vertex Groups. To see them, you have to 1. Select the Grease Pencil Object 2. Go to Edit Mode 3. Go to its properties 4. Go to Vertex Groups and you should see the vertex groups. Let me know if this helps. 😎

    Thanks for the video, the armature is still moving by itself. I did the parenting as shown in thee video and the attachment steps (after naming each bone). But when I go to pose mode, it still doesn't move with the character. any advice?

    Apparently, there's a bug in the current version of Blender that doesn't let me drag and rearrange the stroke objects in my collection. That's frustrating, but I'm moving stuff around by adding A 1 and such to the beginning of the object names, since the filter seems to be stuck in alphabetic sort. Hope they fix this is the next release

    • @Learn2Animate
      @Learn2Animate  Před 3 lety

      I don't think it's a bug, It just doesn't work like Maya's outliner. Something maybe we can write to Blender to see if they can implement this in the next version. 👍

    • @waffleassembly6779
      @waffleassembly6779 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Learn2Animate I looked through some forums and got the impression that before 2.9 you were able to move them around so long as "sort alphabetical" is unchecked. But now that I'm trying to use these like layers I realize I don't know what I'm doing. I think I need to watch your video about how to create the character from scratch

    • @Learn2Animate
      @Learn2Animate  Před 3 lety

      I have been using Blender since 2.83 so I am not sure of how Blender use to be. You can put stuff inside collections and you can arrange collection by drag and drop but not individual items. I will keep looking, maybe there is a third party add-on out there somewhere. 🤞
