Just spent a half hour studying every photo. I’m an ASE certified master mechanic who now translates industrial technical manuals. I’m extremely impressed with what you accomplished: concept, design, welding, mechanicals, torque prevention/protection, clever use of available materials, fit & finish, and your determination to finish the project, including the last 10% that seems to take 90% of the time and effort. AWESOME My dad was very much like you he would put a lot of time and effort into his own ideas rather than going out and buying everything.
as you say, it's a very refined project for somebody that is not involved in engineering and fabrication, as you say too, the attention dedicated to the finition is very impressive,
the only point I see at glance that will need refinement is the engine power as the demo is done on free snow, on heavy / wet snow, the engine will be insufficient to clear the blower.
Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm going to copy some of this for a loader version for my 1025r. I'm really impressed to. You should be proud of your work!!
Ok this guy just said at least everything that I came to say. I am a career welder fabricator in the business of custom fabrication of basically anything a person would walk into my shop to talk about. Just a couple days ago I was considering a project of this nature with the very same Bolens single stage blower I have for my Bolens H 14. Reason is that the fixed speed of the Bolens pto is too slow to blow in a single stage design. Cudos for an excellently planned and executed project. If I were still in business I would try to hire you. I would like to hear your thinking and decision in regaurds to gearing ratios and auger speed. It seems to throw the snow really well. I wish you would give us another video featuring it in action more. Thanks for sharing a top grade project with us. Dan
As an ASE certified technician and a Mechanical Engineer, I have to say Well done!. This is the first time I have watched a home build video that didn't make me want to yell at the screen. It was well thought out, the welds weren't made of bubble gum. You had to forethought to put a clutch on the Auger drive. I especially like that you took the time to do it right the first time(weather sealed boxes, nicely painted, hell even custom decals) it wasn't just cobbled together. Nice work.

I have the exact same tractor. Bought a used single stage blower that didn’t fit. Was going to just get rid of it until now. You give fabricators a new level of motivation. Great work!!!
It is definitely well worth $1,500 for all the time and effort you have put into this “sno-ver kill” blower you have made! I think most people would buy this just for the fact that it was hand made from a great craftsman like you! Well done!

I can appreciate everything you did to make that project work. Smart to have a separate power unit on the blower. Smart to be able to direct the snow to where you want it, or to keep going with the wind and not in your face. Hardwired remote for all functions and the whole thing articulates separate from the tractor. I just love your concept on this one!😁😎👍✊

This snowbpower is a work of art! .. It is so cool to see someone pulling all their years of experience and ingenuity into some little project and take it to this level where most anyone probably wouldve just gone to Walmart and bought a snowblower

I can appreciate the amount of planning. I worked on replacing a water tank on my RV. I'm a cabinetmaker but no gearhead. It took 10 days to take things apart and to keep digging out rot. to finish the repair was 3 months. Everything I did had to be planned so as not to foul up or cover something else needing attention but not done yet.

I'm not an engineer or ASE certified, but I do work on this stuff for a living (and have for several years) and this is very likely the most solid snow blower I've seen that would be considered a "reasonable build".
Everytime I would think "but he didnt" about something, the next photo would come up and it was addressed. Bravo!

Seems like lots of people are so impressed you did all this, and you’re not some fancy, papered, ticketed engineer or master mechanic. Your workmanship and quality attention to small detail are excellent to be sure! I’m very impressed with what you’ve accomplished, but I’m not impressed at all that you were able to do this. You’re obviously brilliant and incredibly skilled, so of course, once you’re mind was set to the task you made it happen. Papers and tickets mean nothin in my world. There’s all kinds of engineers who are so daft they couldn’t install a door handle, or design one that works. Some are brilliant, many are not.

Outstanding work and craftsmanship I am a 57 year old retired nuclear machinist. I am kinda new to the utube community and this has to be the BEST hands down video I've seen of a quality build on utube thus far. I've made steam engines and hit and miss engines from scratch but I would have loved to have helped you out with this, I tell you I would have been happy as a pig in mud to have had a hand in building this with you. The name of the unit is perfect too thanks for sharing this with us I truly appreciated it and your hard work.

I have a Bolens Snow Caster for my 1969 Bolens 1220 Husky powered by a 12 HP Tecumseh. It is of course PTO powered and I do have the factory hydraulic lift. It works great the once a year (maybe) I get to use it here in a suburb of Portland Oregon. With that said, I'm very impressed with your finished project. Great job! I love seeing old Bolens things being brought back to use.
What a beast. I thought it was going to be too much for your tractor to handle but I was wrong. Good cure for keeping the tractors rear wheels on the ground when you raise the blower.
Im a mechanical engineer and i am seriously impressed. I was actually looking at Berco snowblower attachments for my ATV the other day and what you made for 350$ cost about 4-5000$ new. Awesome work my friend. Makes me want to go build something

After watching the video and reading your update about retro fitting and fine tuning, I was impressed by your skill and devotion to your goal. Having dealt with many single stage snowblower attachments on lawn and garden tractors, leaving out the actual noise levels of the unit running leaves me with the impression that it must be extremely loud and noisy while running. Cranking up the RPM's of the rotating unit will get you the distance throwing the snow, but it will also cause a lot more wear to the entire drive system of chains and gearboxes that were never designed for that much speed. I'd be interested in the total $ cost for materials.

worst song ever. 11 horse to a single stage is impressive. a john deere 140 14 horse garden tractor from the 60's could be equipped with a 42 inch ss snowblower but it barely throws half as far while it is screaming. i reckon the tractor takes more than 3 horsepower to make the wheels turn.

I did the same type of build with a 12 hp walk behind. A lot less fabrication. But your build is more interesting. Good job.

Very nice build. I really like the way you used cheap parts.
It seems a little too thick steel for the motor mount/ chassis but it will last longer.
I admire the fact you have had the patience to really finish it an make it look like new.

WOW, just wow! $350, 180 although a lot, is fair for design/implementing/find error/redesign. I'd bet the manufacturers have more than that into a redesign of a previous model they've already built! Plus their gauge steel and welds can't compete. Your improvements like power turn tilt and toss, the winch lift, and dolly wheels to counter the jack wheels. Dude, your incredible, and if I ever see this thing I'm stopping to jump out of the truck and hug you for your awesomeness!

This is fantastic! I am in process of trying to retrofit a 42 inch to my GT6000, 1985 Vintage. The blower I have uses a vertical pulley design and mine is a horizontal. Had it all lined up, looked like I could use the mounting holes in the frame. Had to take off the brake which I do not need anyway as I have an electric clutch and am going to rig the switch to shut off the clutch when I lift it. But now with a new belt the front tensioner pulley is hitting the front tensioner assembly of the tractor. Luckily no snow yet. Yours is simple to attach and take off. Mine not so much. Great job!

Very good build, this coming from a retired auto mechanic/technician who's built many things from scratch. I really think this snowblower you built is going to outlast your tractor. Incidentally, I was in The Home Depot today, we got 6 inches of snow on the ground here in Flint, Michigan, that started about 5 AM, the snowblower I looked at was priced at $1099.00, and not as well built as yours. Best of wishes with your "Sno-ver Kill", thanks for sharing the expertise.

The only thing I can add to this is, if you start getting bogging in your ejection chute, use car wax. A mentor of mine does that from new with his blowers, and he has never had a clog. Beautiful build.
Frank Knockleby, I’m a public works mechanic we use stuff call Fluid Film to keep snow from sticking in dump bodies. We actually drown everything in it. Good for anti corrosion. Thx for watching.

Only thing I'd add is I always pencil rod around all the auger screws. It will chew up any unforeseen rock gremlins up for breakfast. Plus it creates less tolerance for snow to slip threw proving in all my experiences to snow throw substantially further plus no worrying about tearing that auger up. I did it when I straitened a auger that I had basically twisted up and tried to throw itself threw the shout. (Bit of exsaderation but not by much). I welded the pencil rod around it as I straitened it to assist in keeping what I straitened strait while I straitened the rest.(yes it took that much straining lmoa). When. I was finished it was no doubt the best chewing and throwing blower I had owed up to that point. So much so that when I get a new blower I dismantle and weld pencil rod immediately. Much easier to do befor you send it threw the shout then after. And you'll deal with less then half the amount of shout clogging as befor. Just returning the favor of sharing successfull experiences.

have on the video is the music in the background. I know thats just my opinion as others on these comments prefer the exactly opposite. I simply would enjoy just hearing you narrate and also hearing the engine cranking out the white stuff.

You did a very good job. I built one for my UTV, I have a baby 6’ blower that was on my 30 hp tractor, I’m using a 670cc Predator engine. The thing I did differently then you was, my engine was 4000 rpm, I geared down to 560 so to not overspin my blower, under load it is perfect. I have full range of my engine, and being geared down correctly it has full power at the blower. Like I said, my little tractor is 30hp but I think it is 20hp at the pto. So the 670cc was fine.

Awesome build! I am considering doing something similar with an 8 foot blower,and 2+2 135 hp tractor. Converting from rear mount to front mount. Your ideas, on a much bigger scale. Got some great inspiration from you!

@@mikeadams2339 I have abandoned my front mount blower on the 2+2 for now. The steering system and length of the tractor would require too much lateral movement, in the front. I am still working on my blower project for the rear of the 2+2.
A brilliant job, well done! We had a 32” Bolens of that date and it was a workhorse that lasted, it would even throw water/slush easily.

Awesome build. Tons of great ideas. My appreciation for you sharing will be visible when I acknowledge a few of your designs that I'm surely gonna use on my build. A 2003 crewcab s10 on solid axles front and rear. With a divorced transfer driving the truck and the stock transfer driving a hydraulic system. I hate disassembly + paint and finish lol. But it sure does show of the workmanship. Or at least it allows less mechanically educated viewers to appreciate your craftsmanship. It came out rad. I'd be proud as heck to blow my driveway and all my neighbors drives with her. I bet you start snow blowing when your weather guy says it gonna snow. For me thats every morning during our winter months. Stay out the box my friend. True visionary.

awesome build! i had this exact same idea a while back as i have a spare 10hp motor and my craftsman tractor was pretty underpowered to drive both. but then the crappy briggs inteck blew up and i ended up finding a great deal on a real garden tractor with a 54" snowblower and deck and electric implement lift
my only concern when thinking about building something like this was steering and turning radious

Beautiful work! I am collecting parts to build an 8' blower for my 77 Ford. It'll be 2 stage powered by a 13 hp Tecumseh. Not sure whether I will go with belt or hydraulic drive. I sure can't justify buying one especially with how pricey, flimsy, and poorly designed many of the available blowers are these days. I can get many of the parts from my boneyard and the scrap metal yard. The feeling of watching the snow fly from the comfort of my heated cab has been on my mind for many years.
i like that because you gave it it's own Engine ya can push it with anything you're 4x4 truck or a 4 wheeler whatever you got even a golf cart i gotta craftsman 1 stage I'd like to do this with but having the matching motor i don't wanna destroy the pair for a 1 off really cool tool

Run the motor off the back and use a hydraulic pump and motor for power transfer fore-aft.

all i did for my 2004 5hp craftsman 5hp single stage snow thrower is upgraded to Stainless steel bolts to the rubber augers belts
