  • The 1990s was certainly an interesting time in American railroading which saw Amtrak importing multiple units from many nations. What many don't know, is that this international testing also included Siemens RegioSprinter DMUs for short haul routes throughout the nation.

The RegioSprinter is just SO COOL! I believe that the Rock island also trialled an FS railbus back in the 70s. The "Ravioli Rocket" it was nicknamed.

While it was in Calgary I never got to ride it which is a shame because it fulfilled a very important need of getting people from the existing LRT end of line at Anderson station to the deep South suburbs of Millrise, Shawnesssy and Somerset... It still needs these trains for ACTUAL regional rail lines to Airdrie, Cochrane and Okotoks now... And even now those trains look modern and cool. Too bad!

True, but the IC3 model that visited the U.S. was based on an Israli Railways design.

@@Pensyfan19 they were delivered to Israel after the tests. So technically came from Denmark to the US. It was agreed by the Israeli railways because they got the trains at a discount. They also continued to Canada but no sales were achieved.
