  • We are back with part 3 (of 4) of my Tour du Mont Blanc! This portion of the TMB was in Italy, and I have to say the views were pretty amazing. I left Rifugio Bonatti, climbed to Col Spain, and then onto Mont de la Saxe. I stopped for pasta (sooo good) at Rifugio Bertone and enjoyed an excellent view of Courmayeur before completing the descent.
    I'm so lucky that my rest day in Courmayeur fell when it did - there were rain storms, thunder storms, and hail storms lasting most of the day. I did make it out to explore and find some gelato. The next day, I made the steep ascent out of Courmayeur, saw a helicopter close up as someone in an orange jacket jumped down onto the mountain, and ran into all sorts of weather (including a couple of rainbows).
    My next (and final) TMB video will feature crossing the Col de la Seigne back into France on ground covered by fresh snow, a few more nights of tent camping, and the return to Les Houches.
    Day 6: Rifugio Bonatti to Courmayeur
    Day 7: Courmayeur (rest day!)
    Day 8: Courmayeur to Rifugio Elisabetta

    1. My pronunciation of any French or Italian words in this series is nearly guaranteed to be incorrect. Forgive me.
    2. If you're trying to gauge from my videos how challenging this hike is, just know that while 80% of my walking shots appear to be on a flat trail, 10% or less of the actual hike was flat. I had my reasons for selectively recording on the flat sections...

    Thanks for the geography lessons! We're looking at maps and trying to figure out what country you're in as you walk! Another great video!

      That's awesome! It was such a neat region to explore. I'll cross from Italy back into France in my next video to finish the route :)

    The mountains in this video were spectacular, and the alpine flowers are such a treat in spring. Funny about the guy from Sandusky, the home of Cedar Point...haha! Thank you for taking me on this leg of the trip. Since you are going the opposite direction it is a bit confusing to me and you have taken a few variants that I will not be taking. Next video ready to go...!

      I loved hiking next to the mountains. The views never get old. And it was so crazy to run into someone from Northern Ohio on the trail!

      @@mikhailalynn, small world. I now live on the coast of Maine, I met another college kid there. When I did my year in Italy, I was walking home from class, turned the corner and saw that guy. We both looked at each other as we knew we met, but couldn't pin the location and it also had been nearly 8-9 months. It was the guy in Maine!!! How we meet briefly in a tiny town, then in a huge city (Firenze) we are turning the same corner. Yes, small world. Embrace those meetings!

    Another amazing video Mik. Besides having the skill and courage to do this stuff alone, you do an awesome job of editing, sharing the experience. Beautiful scenery that I never knew even existed.

      I camped in my tent for 4 out of 11 nights. (It was supposed to be 6 out of 11 originally until my bag/tent got stuck in the airport for two days). Slept in hotels in Chamonix and Courmayeur, and two refuges while in Italy (Bonatti and Elisabetta). In this video (part 3), I didn't use my tent at all, as I wasn't able to find as many good campsite options for the Italian portion of the TMB. I did book my spot in the Refuges early - October/November of the year before! They fill up fast

    Your videos are inspiring. Outside the mountain day hikes, what mode of transportation have you been using? Bus/train?

    • @mikhailalynn
      @mikhailalynn  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thank you!! I used a few buses, trains, and gondolas/lifts towards the beginning of my trip (days 1-3), mostly because I had to change my hiking plans due to my bags being stuck in the airport. From day 3 onwards (Trient all the way around back to Les Houches), I didn't use any transportation other than walking.
      The TMB is a loop hike, and the places I stayed at night were all right near the main route. Some people do take buses or gondolas/lifts occasionally to cut out steep climbs or long days of hiking, but it's not necessary to do so.
