Great tip-video. 5/5 ☆☆☆☆☆ Chock-full of valuable information e.g. wild camping, times of year. Of all the TMB tip-videos, It gives the most realistic feeling for the hike.

Thanks
Thanks for making this video and I wish it was available 4 weeks ago so I know where all the campgrounds are each night. I'm going there next week for 6 days but will do daily hike instead on certain trails and come back to town to sleep. Maybe tent one\two night on the France side. Next year, I will hike thru with tenting overnight and a few refugios stay if this trip goes well. And maybe do it in late July and Aug when weather is more sunny. Weather channel said thunderstorms and rain every day next week, not sure if that's only in mountains. Thanks again.
Great plans, hope you will enjoy it a lot!
Exactly what we were looking for! Enjoyed your maps. Doing TMB July 2024!
What were the apps for gps? Google earth?
AllTrails! Thanks for the kind words. The 3d map is Google earth :)
Thank you for the good detail Is he heard of tents on the Mont Blanc trails
You're welcome!
Hi, thanks for the informative video.
I'd love to know where do you shower at the campsite?
At campsites there are showers. At refugios aswell :)
Great video - thank you!
if I am looking for more of a wilderness trek, do you have any recommendations? mont blanc seems incredible but I'm not the biggest fan of how crowded it seems.
Thanks again!!
I can totally imagine! The TMB is one of the most populair multi day treks of Europe i would say. The wilderness of USA and Europe are hard to compare. Maybe the trail from Chamonix to Matterhorn? Im not to familiair with wilderness treks. The more East you go in Europe you will find some more wilderness. Or in Scandinavia perhaps. Good luck!
Thanks so much!!@@WanderwithXander
Hi,
thanks again for the informative video.
I would greatly appreciate your help...
I suppose to land in Geneva on July 2 at 9:40 am
I wanted to know if you think I will be able to get to Les
Contamines Montjoie (14km +/-) on the same day or is it better for me to wait the day in Chamonix and start the trek the day after?
I think it will be more relaxed if you start a day later from Les Houches. Depends on the time of arrival at Chamonix or les Houches. Its contains some bigger climbs to Contamine! If you're camping you can also just start from Les Houches and Camp after the first climb! Thats what i did
Thanks for that video! And I have a question, is any risk I'm not gonna be able to bokked places on campings or shelters for night? Should I called them at same day, or day before? We planned to go in August
Campsites will be less of a problem. Shelter might be best the day before and the same day if the day before didnt work out! :)
Really helpful video, it has answered quite a few of my questions. Just one thing, is it really necessary to take crampons? I'm starting the tour on 19 June and I'll be carrying a lot of stuff. I'm guessing the answer is check snow conditions before setting off.
Maybe you will only need it at the Cho La! I think its a glacier which never melts. Also tryable without crampons but way less nice haha
@@WanderwithXander Ok, we'll see!
Good luck!!
We also plan to hike TMB in Sep. Do you think it is possible to camp at Col de Seigne in that season? Is it too windy? As the next available campsite in this stage is in Val Veny, quite far from Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme. Thank you!
Nice plan! Col de Seigne was very windy when I was there but I'm sure you could find a spot a bit lower on the mountain :)
I got one more question. I know that refugios / mountain huts are already closed at the beggining of October but do you know if there are any campsites open?
Im not sure! Maybe in the valleys? But i doubt it. Never been there but fall should be beautiful!
Did you bring all your food with you or was it easy enough to stock up in the towns and refuges you passed?
You will find a lot of refugios and some supermarkets. I brought my own dimmer but bought my breakfast and lunch!
Would you recommend reserving camp spots in advance? If yes, on which website can we do that?
I dont think its neccesary! Especcialy not if you arrive at 's normal time
@@WanderwithXander thanks!!
Question while watching this video. I can climb up easily but descending is problematic and I take time so that I do not overstress my knees. Do you think that clockwise is better option for me in that case?
I think it won't really matter that much. But you might be wise to look into the possibilities of taking lifts down the mountains, since there will be some steep descends. Or try descending backwards (really helps haha) and use your poles effectively! Good luck !!
@@WanderwithXander haha, thanks. Lifts are fine, but I would try (by taking all measures) to hike on foot totally. So, I decided that I would go anti-clockwise facing Mont Blanc. Thanks for this video. Not sure if you have any fitness video yet, but having such video can help for those who are going to train for the hike. :)
Thanks for the kind words, I think I will make a fitness video as well. Since I'm a physiotherapist why not combine my two passions haha :) Good luck on the trek! You will be fine!
@@WanderwithXander Wow. That would be so good as getting the exercises from a PT that are essential for this hike is like winning jackpot. Thanks for your wishes.
Thanks might look into making that video then! :)
Is there a need to book in advance at the camping place or at the same time?
I never booked anything!
Did you plan out all the campsites beforehand or did you just wing it every night?
I just decided every night!
But it was september, so a bit less crowded than the busiest days in july/august
What kind of app you are using for showing us the map?
The 3D variant? Google Earth! The other maps AllTrails
Thank you 😊 Also I think this is one of the most informative videos about TMB yet!
Thanks a lot for these kind words! I have some more video's about how to hike certain hikes if you're interested. Have a nice hike!
Wait a minute, wild camping on TMB is illegal right? You can get huge ticket.
Different countries, different rules! Above the Three line its legal, in France bivouacing is legal almost everywhere. I stayed at two some campsites in Swiss
@@WanderwithXander ah ok thanks for information. I've read somewhere that only above 2500 m and in campsites. Good to hear that in France it's legal almost everywhere.
@Wojtixis above 2500m is mostly above the threeline so I think its basically the same :)
@@WanderwithXanderThis is not correct. In Swiss it is forbidden, in Italy it is only allowed above 2500m.
@krristo77 okay thanks for the info!
Is there a way to skip the climbing path ? I want to bring my dog with me when doing this. Thank you!
Which path do you mean exactly? The metal stairs? I think you can skip that by going down through the valley!
I arrived home yesterday from completing the TMB. You can definitely avoid the ladder section, there is a variant
Nice! How did it go?
@@pngit1 perfect. thank you!
Bathrooms?
In the refugios and towns!
@@WanderwithXander Do they have showers too?
@anasqaderi the refugios yes!
@@WanderwithXander Thanks! Can I use them if I wasn't staying at them? I'm planning to camp with a tent
@anasqaderi toilets most of the time yes, but it might be nice to order a drink. Showers I don't know, you're always free to ask but they might say no or charge you
