- Mother Of The Nine Day Queen - Frances Brandon
If we trace through the family tree of the English monarchy from Henry VII to Lady Jane Grey, The Nine Day Queen, then you will see that she was in fact his grandaughter, and Henry VIII, would have been her Uncle. It is through Janes Mother, Frances Brandon, that janes link and claim to the throne was born, as Frances was the daughter of Mary Tudor and Charles Brandon. But the question I find myself asking is who was Frances and what happened to her?
Sadly, another case of family pressure: thrusting a daughter toward the throne.
I love your channel. Enlightening us about the lesser known women of English history. All we heard was about kings and queens, not the other women of the court. It's really interesting to know them about five hundred years later. Imagining how they lived and what they believed in. How they struggled in a patriarchal society for their rights and liberties.
A diagram of the family relationships would have helped early on to understand all the connections.
Can't keep things straight myself. I have several ancestors in Scotland and England, Plantagenets and Tudors.
Thank you again for another masterpiece
First here, HRH!! Love hearing from you with a new post. Interesting side to the history....i think Frances and her husband were determined to gain the throne for their family and thought they deserved it. ALL of their daughters suffered terribly from this.
Interesting that she returned to favor during Elizabeth I's time since she pushed her Daughter to take the throne. She was no innocent and unfortunately she survived and her daughter, seemingly innocent, as she didn't want the throne, was punished for it. Not a good mother in my book.
kazoo Libra: They were vile parents.Jane said if she was quiet, she was in the wrong. If she spoke, she was in the wrong. And I think Frances was worse than him.He just seemed weak. From what I have read,it seemed the only peace that poor girl Jane had,was when she lived with Kat Parr.I wonder what Mary would've thought about her daughter.
@@susanmccormick6022 I have to agree . Both parents schemed to get their daughter on the throne.
Can you do a video on the sister of Anne of Cleves?
I’d love to hear about Anne’s entire family.
I recommend the podcast British History: Royals, Rebels, and Romantics! their most recent episode " Anna of Cleves and Her Family, with Heather Darsie"
I would find that to be very informative and interesting.
She already has! She posted it like 2 months ago- Amalia Cleves
@@alieganhouse2442 I know, when she posted it I thanked her for making it in the comments 😉 I'm suprised this comment is still getting a lot of attention
Great info! I rarely hear such good info on the Grays I didn’t already know, so I very much appreciate your research efforts!
I am truly enjoying the programs in the less well know women in history.
Me, too.
Yes women are great!!
Fantastic channel.
Henry VIII was Lady Jane Grey's great uncle not her uncle. That is a typo. Her Grandmother was Henry VIII's sister.
That isnt what she said. She said H VIII was FRANCES' uncle.
I'm curious to know the details of the destruction of the family home. It looks as if it was very grand and had the same sort of brickwork seen at Hampton Court.
The marriage of Lady Jane Grey and Edward VI would have made sense in terms of promoting the Protestant Reformation.
I have always been interested in the Lady of Hay who was thrown into a dungeon with her son by bad King John and supposedly ate her son after he died
Technically Lady Jane was Queene for 14 days.
I wonder if asked who was the first Queen of England would the proper answer be Mary I? Jane Seymour was never crowned.
Matilda was the 1st queen regnant
Who is my mother grandmas
Love your voice but you talk fast so turn the speed down and turned on caption 😊
I like that you cast doubt on the story that Jane was abused by her parents.
How many stories does this narrator read? Just so I know what ones to skip.
Jane Grey was the GREAT-granddaughter of Henry VII!! Not Granddaughter.
She was his niece.
Sorry great niece.
@@johnsouthern9140 I said Henry 7th not 8th.
she was as I stated in the OP his great Granddaughter.
Henry VII
Mary Tudor, Queen of France
Francis Brandon, Duchess of Norfolk
Lady Jane Grey
