Australia seems to enjoy perpetual sunshine and light all year round. Lovely vid of times gone by!
Wow some great shots. I saw Mercury’s, Marshall’s, Mandators, Mammoth Majors, and a Matador I think. I was an apprentice mechanic on AECs in Bristol England in the mid 60s.
Fantastic thanks great old trucks
Great photos
Frank........ This brings back memories of the days, when we both worked at AEC Lidcombe, 50 years ago ! Best regards Winston B.
My late dad had a AEC single drive Mustang dragging a single axle bitumen tanker for Bitumen Freightlines in the late 60's. Beside it being the roughest riding truck he ever had (and he had a few) it wouldn't stop. The only way it pulled up was with the trailer brakes. He pulled it down and did the s cams drums and linings made no difference. Would not lock a wheel bobtail. A mate of his in Newcastle had one and it was the same. He did the brakes on his at 40000 miles and the drums didn't even have a heat crack.
Did my 7 year apprenticeship at AEC Southall. Can't believe it's all gone.
When I was a kid our neighbour had done his apprenticeship at AEC Southall but within a decade the place had closed. Hard to believe- I can remember walking past our local BRS depot and all the trucks were AECs but I suppose a little later on they were Leyland vehicles with an AEC badge and then the badge was gone.
