i think, it does'nt make sense to compare instruments - you are both excellent players and the instruments are complete different in character; as my teacher always say: don't play the instrument - play the music :)
the bass switch makes the left hand sound more clear or "hidden".Basically makes the tone more clear or the ohter way.It has nothing to do with free bass
