Once you ready to put everything back up attach washer on IAC you may need grease to make it stay in place.. i didn't have any working midnight to avoid 110 degrees in Dallas.. used hair wax.. lol. it worked. goo

    My daughter's '02 Montana with the 3.4 L engine was idling a little roughly and the check engine light was on.
    Until recently, it had been a few years since doing most car maintenance. Your suggestions to clean the air intake system brought back the memories, I decided to give it a shot.
    So after cleaning the IAC and MAF (while taking off the intake hose, may as well clean both right?), after a rough couple of starts, the system adjusted and now she runs beautifully, no check light!

The amount of carbon I cleaned off seemed completely insignificant and I thought if this ends up fixing the issue I would be shocked. It ended up fixing the issue 100%. Hey Scotty,
    Thanks for the awesome videos. Very helpful and straight to the point.
    I have a 2000 nissan maxima that threw the po505 code a few months back so I cleaned my throttle body out, and checked my IACV first. I unplugged the IAC and turned my car in the on position and found it wasnt moving up and down. Tried cleaning to no avail and after seeing they dont sell the sensor individually at stores like autozone and advance auto and wanted 189 for the full assembly I went to a pull a part for it and tested and it worked great. Check engine light went away, and I drove for a few months until it started doing similar things again this time with no check engine light. Now when I try and start it i have to gas it or else it will immediately drop rpms FAST and die. It doesnt flutter down to an idle then die, it just DIES. It almost feels like there is a strong counter resistance. Before when it threw the codes it would do this weird idle thing where when I put it in park it would start fluttering rapidly rpms from 1000 up to 1500 up and down up and down then off if i threw it in drive. (auto trans)
    I took out my maf sensor to clean and looking at it i dont see the resistor iat wire. Do all maf sensors have this? It has two metal tits and a plastic indention where it looks like it should be. I cleaned it despite and as expected no luck.
    I tested IAC again and still functioning properly. Could this be a vacuum leak? or fuel pump/clogged fuel filter, egr valve?
    I know this comment is HUGE and shouldnt be asking such advice over youtube but I am in dire need of my vehicle and my funds are running out.
    Thanks Scotty

    cumon scotty spraying cleaner isn,t enough I take a tooth brush and scrub in the throttle body so the plate doesn't close on carbon and throttle cleaner left in the intake also helps to remove carbon in the cylinders out so I start them right away to blow out as much carbon as I can

Ill tell you what to do "tune in to Scotty Kilmer."He is everybodys ol Uncle there to help you out and back on the road. God bless.

    hey Scotty i just had my spark plugs replaced on my 2006 charger. and after all was done we started the car and a p0107 code came on and we fixed it by replacing the gasket because of a leak. but now another code came on a P0108 im not entirely sure what it is. my mechanic thinks its a faulty map sensor because the car runs fine after a cold start up then after a few minutes when it gets hot it will idle high around 1000 rpm. engine light is always on along with traction control and a flashing throttle body light(the one with a lightning bolt sign). any thoughts on what seems to be the problem? btw when i brought the car to him it had no codes or what so ever. it was running great i just wanted to do a simple spark plug change. which ended me paying $418 for spark plug change and gasket because it started to leak when when it was put back. need some immediate help!

    Hey Scotty I have a 94 olds 98 regency with a 3.8l v6 that is in pristine condition for its age so I really don't want to get rid of it just yet. However, she is running poorly as of late. It hesitates, has loss of power, idles a little rough. Every once in a blue moon when you start her the check engine light will come on, but if you shut her down and start it right back up again the light will shut off. So far I replaced the plugs and wires, replaced the coil packs, removed and thoroughly cleaned the throttle body, used seafoam on the intake, changed oil and air filter, cleaned the maf sensor, ran fuel injector cleaner, replaced the EGR valve and even tried running a higher grade fuel. None of this has improved the performance much. What am I not doing???

      @scadgirl007 Před 9 lety

      +KLUNKET I'm having a similar problem with my car (94 Olds Cutlas Ciera S). Did all the cleaning with no luck, plus changed out the fuel filter. I don't have the know-how to do this part myself, but we're going to a mechanic to have them check out the Throttle Position Sensor.

    • @KLUNKET
      @KLUNKET Před 9 lety

      Allie M. Is your check engine light coming on? I've done a little more work since I wrote this comment and think I have located the problem. Does that Cutlass have the 3.8 liter V6? Does it not want to start every once in a while and then start fine another time?

    • @scadgirl007
      @scadgirl007 Před 9 lety

      +KLUNKET The check engine light comes on when we try to accelerate too quickly. (We usually end up getting on the 55mph interstate near our house at 35 so it doesn't come on.) We used to have an intermittent starting problem, but that was fixed when replaced the starter this past winter. Never have any starting problems or any stalls. Our engine is the V6 3.1L.

    • @KLUNKET
      @KLUNKET Před 9 lety

      Have you cleaned the throttle body? It isn't that hard to do... take off the maf sensor when you clean it and clean that as well- there are a ton of videos on youtube on how to do it... the throttle sensor isn't hard to replace either... it also sounds like your Crank Position sensor may be going bad... but if that is the case then you will need a mechanic because I think the crank position sensor is behind the pulley for your serpentine belt, and that is a pain to remove... You know what... if you are losing power like that you could also have a plugged catalytic converter... Or your O2 sensor is bad... or BOTH.

    • @scadgirl007
      @scadgirl007 Před 9 lety

      +KLUNKET, cleaning the throttle body and maf sensor is actually on our car DIY list before we take it into the mechanic to have the spark plugs changed (the back ones are too difficult for us to reach) and have the throttle position sensor checked. While I did find the crank shaft sensor in my research for what we can do for our car, we're not having problems with stalling or misfiring so it doesn't fit quite as much. If it was a bad O2 sensor, I'm fairly certain that our car wouldn't have passed inspection at the end of May. Either way, I can't properly change any of those things myself so we'll have the mechanic check them out.
      One other thing, we took the car to a mechanic back in March when it was having the same problems. The diagnostic came back with some codes, I can't quite remember, 100-104 I think. That's the main reason we're going to be changing the air intake sensor; they cleaned it and the car ran like a champ until we took a trip to the mountains. (The mechanic won't run the test again without us paying another $90-- no thanks! It's cheaper to change a couple of sensors out ourselves.) We're having problems with the speedometer/odometer not working with acceleration is new and is what led me to the throttle position sensor.

    Hi Scotty, my car (Lancia '96 manual petrol) was idling very low and the engine would turn off if I didn't 'warm it up' by pressing the gas pedal for 2-3 minutes first.
    Took it to an experienced mechanic, and (without telling him to solve the idling problem) simply told him to replace the fuel filter, spark plugs and to clean the throttle body. He did so, and now the engine turns on instantly, doesn't die on startup, etc, but now it idles too high! (And it feels like revs are too high in every gear too.)
    Revs at idle are 1700-2000, and they go up and down when the car is idling, like someone is pressing and releasing the gas pedal every 2 seconds.
    What might it be due to?
    Thanks!

    don't do what he says if you're going to clean your throttle body take it all the way off the car and an old toothbrush with gum out clean it out real nice and neat make sure you don't spray that stuff inside the iac motor or the throttle position sensor. cleane out real nice and neat put it back on there you go because what he's doing is shoving all that crap back into the engine. while you're at it might as well pop out the injectors use a toothbrush some car come out and clean the bottom of the injectors paraffin collect on the ends of those

    I know I've come too late , like it's been years on this video , but I'm still glad to come over this channel . I got a question, my car shuts down on idle when my AC is on , then after turning it back on , even with the AC off now , it turns off again and again , and if I try to drive it , it suffers from an unstable Rev but then works itself by itself. It only happens when my AC is on and on idle mod . I own a 2003 E46 318i

    Hi Scotty, I cleaned the Throttle Body on my 2005 RAV4 today. It was rough idling whenever I am at a stop 500rpm. I hope I didn't mess up the TB/AIC valve - it seems to be electro-mechanical. There was no wire line to open/close the plate. So I used my finger and pushed down the plate and held it open to clean the inside of the TB. I put back the air filter housing and waited more than 1/2 hr. Then started the vehicle and saw white smoke came out for a minute. The idle was at 2000 rpm at first and then dropped down to 1500 rpm at normal temperature.
    I revved the engine up to 3000-4000 rpm a few times, hoping the idle will drop back down to normal 750-800. But it didn't, it remained at 1500 rpm when I come to a stop. So I decided to drive around my neighborhood for 5 min. to burn off the AIC cleaning spray. When I shut off the engine on the vehicle, it felt like a rough engine shut off. Did I damage the AIC control for holding it open with my finger? I've read some blogs and they say I need to drive the vehicle a few days for the ECU to reset.
    Please advise. Oh...I enjoyed all your informative videos. Great videos !!
    Thank you for your advice.
    Tim
