I'm not worried no matter how fast it is running, cuz you know during the first dozen steps it takes there will be major tripping over those arms... ;D
The long arms bug eyes and twitchy movements I can see why it's creepy to people. Can't bash on it though, this is older than anyone commenting on CZcams.
M.Lee Cthulhu Well I'm just guessing but I'm pretty sure, due to the fact, the song "Peanut Vendor" was sung by a Cuban woman (hence the style of music), if I'm not mistaken.
cunt Also think about other things, like WWI gas masks. They were built for a purpose, but also happened to be visually terrifying, and soon after it was realized that the enemy found them scary, it was also part of a psychological warfare thing too. They were scary, because they had big bubble eyes, a ragged looking wrinkly surface wrapped around the head, and a long snout used as the breather tube, which made our soldiers look really freaky and unnatural or almost inhuman. A lot of people will say "Oh those are bad ass!" today, because they are scary looking, compared to today's tactical ones, but again, today's stuff is more refined and better built. Which again, possibly plays into the mentality of generations, where today's hot thing is about intimidation and fear, but back then it wasn't originally intended to do that and it wasn't anything special or meant to strike emotional distress. Though war and children's toys are two totally different things, I believe it's the same concept.
Yeah I just learned how to play it in school. It's quite nice it's just the thing singing it that's creepy. And because it's old and it has that scratchy sound.
Lyrics Peanuts Peanuts For peanuts you will long for later on Too bad the peanut vendor will be gone And then I'm sure you will grieve so But the vendor must go Peanut vendor must go Little house, right where the shadows start to creep Buy a bag of peanuts now, before you sleep
Creepier with the volume off for sure. The boney movements and occasionally twisted expressions are what get to me. This falls pretty close to the bottom of my personal Uncanny Valley. YMMV
I saw this on a "creepy video" compilation but this was the only one that I didn't find creepy. I think it's coz the music is so upbeat. If the music had been darker, this probs would have been more creepy
Its not supposed to be creepy. Of course the music is upbeat. Its a choppy stopmotion film and its a doll and it has big eyes and syares at the camera sometimes which is why its “scary” i guess even though i think its not scary
I find it cute it tickles my insides a bit. and my dad was born in the thirties and he says it brings him back to his childhood when things more joyful this way. it is playful not creepy.
He's only really creepy when he looks forward at the camera, and I feel he wouldn't be creepy if it wasn't so low quality. Very well made and groundbreaking for it's time
Whoa, a few days after watching this, I just realized that this is the song Groucho sings for a few seconds in Duck Soup, after he kicks Chico out of his office. I never knew that was a real song until I saw this video.
Holy shit. Was rewatching Breaking Bad and heard this tune, and remembered this video. Went to the conmwnts and here ou are. The one other dude who cought it.
once you get used to the creepy parts, you'll realize this is truly a great film. It's been reccomended by tons of stop-motion animators for their students to watch. Also, the lip-sync is harder than it looks, and it was synced with a song for that matter. absolute genius.
I'll admit I found this weird but remember it was the 1930's, also the fact that I live for art and animation so I found this AMAZING. I can't stop watching!
I can see why people thought blameitonjeorge s video thought the other videos were creepy, but i can't understand why people thing THIS is creepy. Can anyone who is creeped out by this please explain why they feel like this?
5th Kie... Yeah I think your right I actually really like this video and its one of my favorite videos on youtube. But don't ask me why because I would'nt be able to tell you.
5th Kie... For some odd reason, immature people always label anything from the past as "creepy" or "weird" - I guess it's just one of their current buzz words. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
I had showed a friend of mine and they said it was stupid. This a short film by Len Lye made and 1933 and I really respect this film and its creator. Its a shame Len Lye didn't get the respect he deserved. I really like this short film and think its an excellent stop motion picture.
Ed Harbur It's not a current buzz word - they just think it's creepy or weird. Those two words have meanings and just because you don't think it's either of those doesn't mean other people wont.
i once had a nightmare with this it was this video looping over and over with a part of the song that Cartman sings when he has a probe, the one that goes, "I like to singa, about June a and the Sun a and the Springa"
The version of The Peanut Vendor used for this movie was recorded by Red Nichols and his Five Pennies in 1931. It's currently available on Amazon Music.

This just reminds me of the clarinet boy in the pawn shop. My sister and I saw that at a younger age than we should have. Even then it’s still kinda creepy today. Idk why it was on the cartoon video tape we watched at my grandmothers place. Watched it too many times.
Imagine this thing running towards you at 100 mph in the dead of night.
lol
***** *cries* NOOOOO
I'm not worried no matter how fast it is running, cuz you know during the first dozen steps it takes there will be major tripping over those arms... ;D
Hayden Howland your overreacting :p
I'd say "Hey, peanut vender."
The long arms bug eyes and twitchy movements I can see why it's creepy to people. Can't bash on it though, this is older than anyone commenting on CZcams.
Bob Saget AND what he does w his tail.. yikes
M.Lee Cthulhu Its actually a girl if I'm not mistaken.
M.Lee Cthulhu Well I'm just guessing but I'm pretty sure, due to the fact, the song "Peanut Vendor" was sung by a Cuban woman (hence the style of music), if I'm not mistaken.
It was sung by so many throughout the years, but mostly by male Cubans.
But, i have to agree with ya, it does sound like a feminine recording.

this isn't really creepy. its got a nice happy feel to it and the music is really catchy
LifeOnTheEdge Yeah me too
I also agree
Watch without sound for full effect
Yeah I just learned how to play it in school. It's quite nice it's just the thing singing it that's creepy. And because it's old and it has that scratchy sound.
Yeah I think the only thing that makes it creepy to people is how old it is
For 1933, this is actually incredible considering not many things had sound back then.
No it isnt. Sound films were quite common by 1933
The first movie with sound was in 1927 so there was definitely sound movies
All in all, this still would have motivated me to buy peanuts during the Depression.
Same and I’m allergic. Probably would do it to get my mind off this
@@onlookerofthings6029 PEEEAANUUUUUUUTS!!!
BUT THE VENDER MUST GOOOOO
Really what do i do when i have depression right now easy
Hearing a song from 1933
*"stocks are dropping but i'm finna get myself some peanuts"*
This is really amazing though. For the time, this was phenomenal. I really like his design. A bit eerie, definitely, but really stylistic and cute.
I didn't find this creepy when I first saw it
Yeah, I didn't find it creepy either
I dont know about good for it's time. This was only a few years before snow white
How is this eerie you are all selfish this is the 30s you know
It's not remotely scary
I actually like this, it's nice and calming.
Yeah i dont know why people think this is scary. It seems like it could be a show that kids watched in the 30’s
Same
Yes it's very calming

Yes.
wasn’t expecting you here!
It actually took me a moment to realize that was a Spider Monkey I was looking at. I'll admit the music is kinda catchy.
U know "Don't watch at midnight" uploaded new videos, right?
Zaskarae Yeah
What do you think about them?
Creepy, but interesting.
Wait a sec...
Creepier with the volume off for sure. The boney movements and occasionally twisted expressions are what get to me. This falls pretty close to the bottom of my personal Uncanny Valley. YMMV
GlaciusTS oh shit. Bad idea to watch with no sound. Swore I saw some ghosts from the corner of my eye too 😰 Lol
If this were on my television I wouldn't particularly understand what was happening.
no digas eso jajajaja
Dewd same I literally have no idea either
It's like they tried so hard to make this cute and charming but they ended up doing the exact opposite
fuck you freddy
Your such a scaredy-cat I thought this video was cute and charming 🙂

I'm not scared of this video. It's just that it is pretty weird. I like it.

I know, lol. I meant to send it to the other person! Sorry
This is so strange but at the same time kind of hypnotizing...
If you think this is creepy hypnotysing, watch a Cid called monster Inc meme and solve how it happened
You’re right
Thats how it gets you
I saw this on a "creepy video" compilation but this was the only one that I didn't find creepy. I think it's coz the music is so upbeat. If the music had been darker, this probs would have been more creepy
Sam Peters Yeah, I think this is only creepy if stop-motion is scary to you. It is too upbeat and happy to be scary, to me.

I agree. Things were rougher back then
Maybe her dad had kids late in life. You'd be surprised. I've heard of 80 year olds fathering kids.
Part of me finds this cute and charming, but there's an unsettling tingle at the back of my brain at the same time.
It is really Cute with a little mix of unsettling feeling

Actually, Nuss is the german Word for Nut
how is this the slightest bit creepy?
You're right! it's not really that creepy.
if anything, its impressive as fuck. its the starting of animation!
The thing that's creepy to me about this is that everyone who worked on this is dead by now.
I think its more weird than creepy
The peanut vendor's face looks like a deformed skull, and his arms are moving in ways that are just plain unnatural.
I don't see how people think this is creepy
To each their own, I suppose. But I found it damn creepy. 😂😣
Ah,the early age of stop motion animations. This animation is so wonderful and charming, not creepy what so ever. Unsettling, maybe.
RhinoTeeth that's just like, your opinion, man
RhinoTeeth I find it Very Impressive, And like you said Not scary
Huh, so someone filmed my nightmares.
