21000 km on my ATASes, and it's an Adventure/Touring bike. I use it on forestry roads/two track in Canadian Rockies, and highways in-between, or for days. The ES suspension eats up gravel/dirt so much better than a standard bike, instantly. The Africa Twin is not a gimmick!

I own a 22 ATAS it's the greatest bike ever I think. It is just a jack of all trades and master of none. I can sit on it for hundreds and hundreds of miles on the highway or blast down some dirt roads and see some cool places. It is relatively very comfortable to ride I'd give it a 7.5 on the comfortable scale. My Victory cross country tour is a 10 a gs1250 is a 8 and a goldwing is a 9 I'd say.

I went the other way, I bought a 2016 when the AT was reinvented and enjoyed it for 6 years (sold it in the fall of 2022) and bought an NC750x DCT and a Tw200. I live just outside Vancouver BC Canada in the mountains, and I love exploring small trails to see where they go, and that often became dangerous on the AT, steep hills and tight trails (single track) was not the AT’s forte (too heavy and hard to turnaround on a tight trail) but I did love riding the fire service roads on the AT, as well as going for long ride on the highway & country roads. I am 5’ 11 but with short legs, and I just didn’t enjoy riding that much in the city, so I bought the NC750x and the smaller dual purpose bike and it is working for me. I still miss the AT’s power. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and your honesty, your first off road ride on the ATAS reminded me of some of the challenges I faced. keep up the good work. Don

Back in the early days I wanted a TDM or Transalp, or Africa.....I finally got a AT 2022 - and I love it. I hope to have it till I croak.

great series.. coming form someone who just moved to the AT from the NC as well, and does touring in the SW USA and Baja.. but that ALWAYS includes some dirt... the AT shines in those scenarios.. it will excel no matter what the road throws at ya....

I have a ‘21 AS ES DCT and had it on some difficult rock strewn steep Jeep trails that my crf450rl has had some issues and it just goes! It shouldn’t, it’s heavy, but so nicely balanced. I’m an intermediate/B rider and am 6’2” 220 so I don’t have much problem with maneuvering. I run the Michelin wild peaks and off road I ride it aggressive on 2 rider and luggage and it does still bottom off jumps from water bars so I do my best to always land the rear first. The dct in manual in 2nd gear and it can do and go anywhere. Better tires, manual setting and 2nd gear and hang on!

the Africa Twin is a really chill and comfortable bike. it's not as powerful as some of the other Adv bikes and not as fast, but it's good enough.

Great job! I agree! I have a 2019. I am mostly touring and commuting. Lots of backroads and farm roads, some power lines. Love to go fast, 90 frequently, lane splitting, messing with people in cars a little. Feel like king of the road! Hoping to go cross country this spring. Love the one and done AT. I had the 300L and the NC too. Glad where I am with the AT.

Nice, this looks like an excellent place to ride. Sand can be a chore for a big bike. I imagine especially with the DCT

Your video was spot on. The A T can do it all.

A nice modification which enhances DCT and to help modulate the rear brake is to move the brake control from the right foot to the left hand. That way both hands do all the braking in a balanced way and rear brake feel is much better. Plus both feet no longer have any control duties and it's actually a benefit for balance as well.

I have a maxed out Africa Single, AKA CRF300L Rally with adjustable suspension and power mods, but for open roads and longer trips I am looking at the Africa Twin. It would be a little more bike than what I feel I need. Honestly feel a Honda TransAlp would kill a lot of Africa Twin sales in the US because most guys ride 99% on road as you mentioned and its better suited for that. If they are released here I may be able to find a better deal on an ATAS.

I have two Africa Twins (CRF 1000 and CRF 1100). I go off-road all the time.

  • @TRAVERSE_ADV

Definitely ADV. Dont need to watch the video, own one. But I have the 2019 standard manual. The ATAS is slightly more touring orientated.

I would say it should be called an "adventure touring bike" as you said it can do all. Any ride is an adventure, when you are on the big twin. My next trip will be two up, up to the Lake district in the uk.

Definitely an adventure and touring bike. I've got a 2022 AT adventure sport dct, I've ridden from Louisiana to Colorado where I did parts of the Alpine Loop. It was a little heavy for those trails but I managed to not drop it at all. I've also had it in sand at the Bonnet Carrie Spillway, she's a little top heavy in the sand but just stayed super alert and it went well. I love my Africa Twin.

The Africa Twin is a great bike because it can comfortably do most things. It handles gravel road, dirt roads, moderate off-road and highway! Is it a dirt bike, no. Not at 540lbs. Is it a sport bike, no. But it is very diverse in what it is very comfortable in doing. Love mine. It replaced my DR650 and my old Heritage Softail, and honestly it covers both of those more comfortably that either of those did.
