Ambrosia fruit salad is also extra yummy when you add mini marshmallows and sour cream.
Eddie Washington yesss!! Can’t leave those two items out.. soo yummy!!
Ur right
Exactly how my Aunt made it. Yum.
Eddie Washington cool whip and sour cream?
Thanks
We make this, but we don't use the pineapple in its own juice,it's way too sour with the whipped cream! We use the *PINEAPPLE in HEAVY SYRUP* , drained, and we don't use the can of mixed fruit either (too mushy)... add 1 and a 1/2 cups of marshmallows to the whipped cream,so DeLiCiOuS,it breaks down with the whipped cream, and works wonderful, thickening it up a bit,and adds flavor too...and we add a 16 oz. (completely drained, and Pat dry with paper towels) whole maraschino cherries, you then cut each cherry in half.(pat dry again with paper towel)
*NO CINNAMON OR NUTMEG* and we use walnuts toasted in a dry pan over low heat and let them cool before putting them in the ambrosia salad. the nuts being toasted give it a DeLiCiOuS flavor... And if you use pecans toast them in a pan on top of your stove toasted nuts give things a more delicious flavor.
((Just my take on it))
I loved this as a kid and it was one of the first things I learned to make. I remembered feeling really proud that I “cooked” something for the holidays 😂 Good memories!
My mom always made this with sour cream and mini marshmallows instead of whipped topping. The marshmallows give it a similar fluffy texture. Thanks for the cool nostalgic recipe, you've inspired me to surprise my family with this.
How can you people put a thumbs down on this awesome and cool mama's food???
💕 I just now added Ambrosia Salad to my holiday menus. Thanks Mama❤️
You can just send that whole platter over at my house. I don't feel like cooking dinner tonight. XD
Only half! Send the other half to my place!! Lololol
I do similar recipe but add a small vanilla yogurt and some banana!! Good job!! Thanks.
Shhh! 🤫 My Mom did, too! 🤣
Back in the day, she used Colombo yogurt (I'm old, lol!). It was probably the equivalent to our current Greek plain yogurt, which is what I would use. And a small, semi-ripe banana.
Enjoy!
Angelina- this is a recipe that I had not made for several years thank you for the reminder! 💕
My grandmother and mother would make this every holiday, but my mother would add apples and fresh coconut. But this is a much easier recipe. Thank you for sharing
Can’t wait to make it ... thank you
Always a favorite, the fruit salad. You are certainly correct about ensuring that the canned fruits are drained, very important. Same as draining as much liquid as possible from the salsa when making a seven layer dip! Great videos excellent channel!
I love coconut I'll try it for sure! 👍🙋♀️ looks so good my husband will enjoy thanks.
I love ambrosia salad. I've never had it with nuts but I'm going to try to put a pinch of nutmeg. I have a nut allergy but I can eat nutmeg.
We add tiny marshmallows as well to our recipe
I add powder sugar, bananas and walnuts. So many ways to make this salad. Yours looks delicious too.
I have heard the term ambrosia salad but never knew what it was! We grew up just calling this "fruit salad" and my mom is the Tia that always brings it to family gatherings and even now my family always asks is Tia bringing fruit salad?!! The kiddos love it too.
The only difference is my mom adds some dry jello mix - usually cherry or strawberry and sometimes she puts cottage cheese - not a lot but it gives it a sweet and savory vibe. :)
We're a coconut free house, my husband is allergic. I make it with a bit of sour cream it gives it a bit of a tang its really nice and some mini marshmallows. No nuts here either.
I always love eating this at family dinners. Just didn't realize how easy it is to make. Thank you.
This is sooo nostalgic for me..glad I found this. My Mom used to make this for Christmas. RIP Mom ❤
I always learn something new from your videos. It was the hint of needing a stabilizer if I use whipped cream. That might explain why it gets a bit runny when I make it. Love your ideas!
Wow, I think alot of people here grew up being served this dish for holidays. Amazing how food brings people together!! :) Thank you, for posting!!
Easy-peasy 👏👏👍👍thank you for the recipe!! I love you channel!❤❤🤗🤗
fruit salad. yummy yummy!!
In Sweden we have something like this that we eat with our Christmas ham. Delicious! I love watching you and I love your voice, so calm and clear. Stay blessed!
That takes me back to my childhood. I loved it then and still do.
Thank you 😊. My daughter and step daughter is requesting this for thanksgiving and this will be my first time making it. Your my lifesaver! 👍😊🤗
If someone in my family doesn't bring Ambrosia salad for Thanksgiving Day, I'll FLIP!! 😂 One of my all time favorites
I love ambrosia salad!! It also reminds me of Edward Scissorhands!!! The lady that was hot for Edward made her "Ambrosiaaaaa Salad"
Nice reference :) Good catch.
You mean Joyce?
A really good recipe! One of my favorites in the summer or just anytime. Love it! 💜🙋😊🍧💜
Add mini marshmallows and you’re set!! Thanks for the recipe! It’s a Midwest staple dessert.
We have this dish ever Christmas
I add softened cream cheese to this :). Super yummy!
I think I will whip my own and add some cream of tartar to my whipping cream and add a touch of mayo or sour cream.
whip cream friut cocktail bananas and cherries pineapple. But i am going to try coconut this year. thank for the tip about coconuts
Wow... I haven't thought of this dish in many years. My mom used to make this for the holidays. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you, been looking for this recipe, my father-in-law loves this so we are gonna make this for Thanksgiving!
OMG! Thank you for posting this! My mom would make this for special occasion...!!!
Hi ma'am I'm you're subscriber and a fan from Philippines 🇵🇭..God bless your channel and ur cooking vlog 😚
I use the fruit, no coconut, no nuts but I add sliced banana and some mini marshmallows and extra creamy cool whip. The kids have texture issues with the coconut. I don't care for it in fruit salads either.
OMG! I ate that at every holiday meal for 35 years. Whoever made it musta died, and I forgot all about it.
Did it have the little marshmallows in it? Whoever use to make it at our families holidays many years ago put the mini marshmallows in it.
@D Mills the Lion troll 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lmao!
I’m gonna make this for New Years
Yum and thank you! Can I make this salad one day before thanksgiving dinner?
That looks so good! I'm ready for the holidays!
Thank you 🙏🏾 Happy Thanksgiving
It's a little like the "five cup salad" my grandma always made, a tradition I still carry today. Love your variation using fruit cocktail!
Finally! I can cook!!!
She explained the recipe in a very clear manner that even a novice could understand.
This is probably not the place to ask, but can you do a recipe for Caldo de queso Senora, please?
Thank you for keeping it simple.
I made this for a Friendsgiving last week and it was amazing! I omitted the cinnamon. So good!
Love this salad we always make it for the holidays as well....! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m making this for the second thanksgiving in a row. Thanks for the recipe!
We add wedding soup pasta to ours, adds like a tapioca texture to the mix
Wow-this brings back memories!
Something new for me to make and play around with for Turkey Day🦃. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you for all your recipes.. i love this so so simple
Just like Grandma use to make ty
Take it up a notch and add 1 box of cherry flavored jello powder mix and some cottage cheese. Trust me it will be good.
Wow looks easy and yummy😋gonna try to make this. thank you
Hi!!! Yes I make a Ambrosa Salad for holidays also. Its a staple here!!! Nice video .
Good one, l do lightly toast the coconut in a dry pan, it makes a good texture and nutty taste. Thanks 👍
Great recipe! My mom always makes “fruit salad”, minus the coconut flakes & pecans.. I’ll be adding them next time she makes it though! Hehe
I've always wanted to learn how to make this! So easy, thank you!!

Yummy making this definitely 😊
Just subscribed.....love your recipes, especially the Korean dishes. Happy Thanksgiving!
If use fresh whipping cream:
3/4 cups heavy cream (180ml)
1/4 cup powdered sugar (35g)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
When whipping cream, add sugar and vanilla when the cream is about 1/2 whipped, and it will whip to a thicker consistency. Adding the sugar at the beginning results in thinner consistency. The cream and the bowl should be as cold as possible. The cream will whip easier and to a thicker consistency when very cold.
Tip: Stabilize your whipping cream
Non-stabilized whipped cream will start deflating after 1 hour but will keep for 2 to 3 days in the fridge (though it will weep). Stabilized cream can be kept in an airtight container or piping bag for 48 hours, and it will be fluffy like freshly made!
A stabilized whipped cream keeps its shape and is excellent for topping pies, cheesecakes, and more. Just adding a ½ teaspoon of cream of tarter per cup of heavy cream is all you need.
OR
For every cup of heavy cream you whip, beat in 1 to 2 tablespoons of sour cream or creme fraiche. It won't make it tangy (or not in any truly notable way) but it does keep the whipped cream stable.
My grandmother used to make this too❤ Thank you for giving us the recipe girl! Sending Anguiano love ❤
Yummy!!! Thank you 🙏
That looks amazing and such a easy side dish, what if you put pieces of sponge cake too. Yummy for my tummy. 😍❤️😋😎

Brings back lots of childhood memories.💖
Does anyone know the name of the fruit salad that’s made with cottage cheese and jello?
I’ve been looking for the recipe.
Delicious thank you so much!!
Yummy! We make ours without the coconut and fruit cocktail {no one likes the texture} and add sour cream and marshmallows.
I must try this.
Mmm yummy thank you for your recipe ❤️
Oh thank you, Angelica! I have wanted to make this for the longest time, but I didn't know what it is called, so couldn't even look for a recipe. lol. Thank you so much, it WILL be on my table this weekend! :)
I have a great salad to take to my sisters for Thanksgiving dinner, thanks pretty Lady 💜
Hi thanks I've been craving this for some time but can it be made with sour cream this was super easy once again thank you for sharing this recipe
My elders made something like yours. They called it 5 cup salad. 1 cup of 5 ingredients. Marshmallows, coconut, mandarin oranges, pineapple crushed or tibets, and cool whip.
👍😁💋☮🇺🇸🦃
I'm definitely going to try this. Not a big fan of Mandarin oranges, what can I substitute with? I'd very much appreciate yr suggestion.
May sound weird but i add cottage cheese to mine. My frisnx adds jello mix which for me is too sweet but yeah cottage cheese os so yummy in the salad
I used to eat this at a hospital I worked at; I know the cook added jello somehow but I can't find that recipe anywhere. Do you have any clue what that recipe is? Thank you so much and I loved this recipe!
Thank you for sharing 🤗
😋..one of my favorite sweet treats..My daughters have nut allergies also.. .I appreciate this..I plan on making this for Christmas Eve .. Sincerely Tanja
