  • The Cubs left no doubt by coming out of the All-Star break and losing two must-have series against real playoff contenders. Sahadev Sharma and Patrick Mooney of The Athletic break down Jed Hoyer’s confirmation that the front office won’t be adding rental players for a postseason push, and question Craig Counsell’s take on the trade deadline now that he’s working for a big-market team. With relief pitchers already expected to be on the move, what the Cubs do with Jameson Taillon might be the most revealing part of this entire deadline.

OMG Thank you for thst most logical take on Tallion ‼️ He has been one of the more dependable starters for the team all year. His highest value is to stay on the team, especially with his manageable salary.

That's another thing, I'm glad you mentioned, closing the gap, I don't see it!! Matt Mervis, was supposed to be "Mash Mervis" comes up, and, I don't think he put the ball in play when he was up!! PCA went down, started hitting, he comes back up, and swings the bat like he's wearing someone's prescription glasses!!😎🤓

In a perfect world, Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins are immediately fired at season's end, the Cubs hire a competant team president and gm who are not in house, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, Chris Morel, Miguel Amaya, Cody Bellinger and Seiya Susuki are all traded, the scouting department does their job and looks for available players that hit at least .275 with RISP, and the Cubs should sign at least 3 of them along with a legitimate power hitter, the bullpen should be completely revamped and a legitimate closer should be signed. With all the dead money and expired contracts coming off the books next season, none of this should be a problem. And more important than people think, allow Craig Counsell to hire his own dam coaching staff. The Cubs signed one of the best managers in baseball just to stick him with a team full of fringe players and coaches that he didn't even choose, as if he was a miracle worker. NO manager would be successful with this team.

Plus!! On offense, it seems they play this game, "What's the fewest swings can we make in under 2 mins.??🤔 It. seems they have their cars double parked in a "No Parking Zone" at the plate!!..........The opposing team made the 3rd out, Cubs were jogging off the field, I went to the bathroom, came back, they were in the outfield!!🧐😲
