    I have used those types of thing for over 20 years working as a courier and they are worth their weight in gold.
    Not so much for keeping your hands warm but keeping them dry, a typical Melbourne winters day when I don’t get above 10 and it is raining they are brilliant.
    The big bonus is you can wear lighter gloves to give better feel and with heated grips it is so much more comfortable than thick winter gloves. They do take I little time to adapt to but after a short time you forget about them, for commuting they are great.
    For a dirt bike with bark busters I would be tempted towards the BBZ ones, bit pricey but would work better, I think.

    Bar Muffs are very popular in Europe. Great in the rain too.

    G`Day Mark and Nay (not forgetting Pookie), thanks for the video Mark, I have ordered a pair for this winters riding as we are starting to get cold mornings in the UK now, like the idea of the wire, will do that for sure.

    If you don't like them as hand mits. Sew the end up and use them as Booties when in the sleeping bag.

    Very common to use these in Japan, rain, sleet, then snow, you learn to LOVE them. You can use a lighter glove with these, and some of them are water proof, or you can treat them yourself.

    Hey mate, decent review.
    I just used a set of the Ballards type B for an 1100km stint through the Flinders. The type B seem to be a lot less floppy and let you still see the majority of controls - by the end of the trip I was a convert!

    Definately don’t want those if they keep your hands cold.😉

    Hi Mark, I use the B type 'elephant ears' and like your mate Peter find them perfect for icy long haul commutes. At HWY speeds I also like to make sure there is a good seal where the strap wraps around the bar to stop cold air working through.

    I'm going to try them on my Honda SR1300. I road my Honda Shadow ACE last winter, saw these on Amazon, I started to buy them, but as you know sometimes life get in the way, and I just forgot about them. Thanks my brother!

    Hello Mark; Good to see you, nice product test, seems useful ; The wire at the end seems a good idea... Not for me...I have excellent Winter Bike Gloves so happy with them...keep safe and thanks for the extra video..... Hugs to Naomi....

    Good video Mark, I'm still on the fence with them. I can see both the pros & cons though for different types of riding. It's just the idea about being restricted that niggles at me.. Awrabesht mate. 😉👍

  • @kentuckyjustice1408
    @kentuckyjustice1408 Před 3 lety

    Like you were at first, I'm a little leery of having my hands "tied", as it were, to the handlebars, but I can definitely see their use on highway rides, as you said. I ran across these things on an internet surf once. The ones I saw were lined with sheepskin. THAT would be warm, sure enough. I think that If I were to use such a thing, I'd probably opt for the shorter version. It would allow my jacket to fit in there, yet give me a "quick exit" path, should the need arise. Sometimes a guy just has to re-situate "the boys".😉
    As for the wire, everyone's going to have an idea. I think I would razor cut a "very small" hole, accessing the void in the factory hem, fish the coated wire through, then use fabric glue (or a stich or two) to close the hole and prevent fraying of the fabric. I might even just poke it through. I'd be afraid of those staples catching somewhere they shouldn't. Thanks for the video!
    ~GOOD PRODUCT REVIEW.~

    I use these on my cb 500x and think they are just ok. I have used zip ties to ensure the openings dont close up, and a hole punch to fit better around my mirrors meaning I need to remove my mirrors if I want to take the covers off for summer but i dont think i will take them off as they dont bother me. They do take some getting used to, especially if you need to push your bike around alot in your garage space.

    put some heated grips, i have a cheap chinese pair low profile (no big box like the oxfords) 2 years working fine, add the barkbusters inserts to block more wind and most of the rain and should be enough

  • @Bowlin01

    Mark, we need to see these 'in action' again with the wire in, just to check that the wind / slipstream still doesn't defeat the wire and close them up

    Hi, Dont think they would suit the ZX14-R ? I think it may have been cold enough to wear gloves in Queensland for 1 day maybe 3-4 years ago :-)

  • @jaztoecutta
    @jaztoecutta Před 3 lety

    I am first to agree they are 100% butt ugly but have been using "pie warmers" for years
    They are one of the first things i pack for multi-day winter riding / comfort and swap the same set across all my bikes. People shitbag them initially but once they see you are wearing summer weight gloves in sleeting rain, that you dont have the bulk of the winter gloves and your hands are dry and warm.. they get curious and ask questions. I wear ADV gloves all year as a result and for when its REALLY cold, I have heated grips and a set of silk liners for under the ADV glove.. still with next to no bulk. I fold the cuff on the warmer right up to the wrist line to make the opening a bit bigger and rigid. I also pack a microfiber towel from the inside into the gaps to keep the wind out even more
    Butt Ugly Biker Bits :-)... but work :-)

    Hi mate i have a Chinese plasticy vinyl pair with Wooley inside i bought to try out, which are great for going from Melbourne up over the south divide to Barmah for the queens Birthday but Geez you need to take them off when you hit the dirt tracks, hands sweat like a pig on a spit.

    Ok, so I’m seeing an real rider with an honest review. Junk the first time out, then a proper give it a go try. Pointing out the advantages while actually testing these awkward funny looking thingys. Personally won’t buy them, feel like I got a good rundown of the merits of this product. Thanks Mark 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎

    Hi Mark,
    I use Oxford Rain Seal handlebar muffs, secured with the screw for bar ends through a hole in the side. They have a pocket for extra heaters and I have put a piece of Perspex in there. No flapping and a large mouth to put you hand through. Works aok on my 2016 Tiger 800.
