Takapau Golf Club | Course 3 of 396 - Takapau | Yes Life Golf - New Zealand

Our journey to playing all 396 courses continues at Takapau Golf Club, located in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region of the North Island in New Zealand. It's around a 45 minutes drive to Napier and is located on State Highway 2.
It was founded in 1898 and boasts 12 holes with different combinations of play. The holes aren't numbered like many courses, they have named all their holes with some being named after World War 1 Battlegrounds.
There is a strong volunteer group at the club working tirelessly esly to keep the course operational. We chat to Errol Johnhansen who talks to us about his love for the club and his mission to keep the club alive. Himself with a team of locals moe and keep the course to an exceptional standard with limited resources and time.
Many top professionals over years have stopped here to play the famous par 3 "The Styx". A fantastic par 3 where you hit from an elevated tee over a winding creek to a small green surrounded by tall trees. We were told Seve Ballesteros had played the hole but we can't be certain of the factual evidence of this, we like to believe its true.
We play Stableford around the outer 9 holes with Nick receiving 3 shots a hole, Stephen receiving13 shots and Sean playing off +2. As wemake our round the course we soon realise we will run out of light but thankfully we finish the round!
We thoroughly enjoyed our round at the club and speaking to Errol. These country courses make golf so accessible for many locals to try the game. The greenfees are exceptionally cheap and with the course being generally quiet it gives beginners the time and space to learn the game of golf.
