    Good memories. I had a burgundy 95, loved that car. You should get it undercoated or spray Fluid Film everywhere underneath.

      Its certainly not rust free enough to get undercoated, but fluid film is a good idea!

    Although this was my favorite generation of escort As well as my favorite body style there are not many left down here in Miami Beach do too all of My fellow Latino Ricer racers. The master 5 speed prove to be far more bulletproof than the much weaker Ford automatic. However there are still tons of the the 5 speed wagonversions still zipping around town. I assume that there are a lot more wagons over sir the sedand hatchback versions because they were less desirable By teenageas well as they were much less likely to have started their lives as rental cars like the other versions were. They also last longer down here because another big issue with this genmission of of the escort slasir was rust and since we don't salt our roads down here the cars are less prone to Rot. However the harsh sun rays Seem to do a number on the outside plastics and it's noto see an escort with with a giant shark bite taken out of either the front or rear Bumper covers. Ford used the cheapest plastics back in the day Which caused them too fade fade and get brittle as they aged. The 1991 - 96 escort/tracer was by far the last of the reliable small car offerings from Ford. The 97 - 01 was a much More substantial feeling feeling car car and mpleasant to drive but it wasn't anywhere near as reliable as this gen But was vastly more reliable than the rolling pile of crap that replaced it ( Focus). Many of the mechanical components Are interchangeable with the 1st Gen Mazda Protege And for some strange reason the those parts seem to be easier to come by. Overall these were much More reviable then then most other cars and it's class especially among it's American and korcar rivals it's nowhere Close to being as reliable as the Corolla or civic of the time. I wouldn't mind having a 3 door 5 speed as a daily driver but it would have 2 have the rare but optional ABS Because these tended to have some of the worst breaks of any car I've ever drivespecially the wagon which loved to throw its ass around With even the most minimal amount of water on the roads. I remember having a conversation with a tow truck driver once who told me that 2 of the worst hydroplaning replacing cars cars were the escort wagon and the old Lincoln mark 7.

      I've had 3 wagons and now 3 hatchbacks, never had an issue with braking or handling in inclement weather. I really can't fathom driving anything but an escort for a small car at least.
