Melissa Etheridge with a great cover of Joan Armatrading's "The Weakness in Me" live at Kink. August 25, 2010. FB: / binglounge Twitter: / thebinglounge Tumblr: / binglounge
I've listened, to other covers of this very special song, most of which didn't do anything for me really. But this is so so lovely. Thoughtful , pared-back phrasing. And oh... that piano. Just perfect. Loved it.
I had no idea she had covered this song until today, and yet-I had imagined her performing this song years ago. What an amazing version of this intense Joan Armatrading song. Straight from the heart, deep from the soul.
Wow! I just found this video and I'm blown away... Listened to it 5 times back to back and I had goose bumps for every one of them... Once again Melissa has touched my heart & soul and once again she has proven herself as the truely amazing woman, musician and goddess that she is..... Thank~You For The Music..... ~ Peace ~ (~.~)
She made this cover again in the time of Covid-19 in the Sunday piano session from her home. Much better and also a earlier one from an live concert was more emotional. I bought a CD with various girl cover title, and this one is also in the CD. And this version is amazing.
Such a great story teller! I listen to these over and over. I plan to see her in concert when she goes on the road again. Not missing out on this kinda performance!
Have always loved u ME. Looking so forward to the day that u perform this song live in Adelaide, Australia. The concert last year was awesome but I can't wait to see you again!
perhaps they are actually listening? American audiences seem to have a problem with that, pretty much every American artist that tours the uk remarks how nice it is to have an ettentive audience :)
yes, it's weak in comparison to her live & alone DVD version. very much weaker. i'm wondering about her health when this was filmed. if that's the issue. i don't know. a lot of power control and swagger missing in this performance compared to some other ones.
Melissa owns this song, and shares the conflict and passion straight out of her heart. Under her expert delivery , the song emerges fully developed and powerful, the performance of a truly great artist.
Melissa Etheridge may not have been at her best at the time of this performance. I wonder if she was having troubles with her Partner, Tammy, at the time? I love ME’s usual performance of “The Weakness in Me”. But seeing this performance, it was a little lackluster.
chris davies, Why’d ya stay to listen, then? Sure Joan Armatrading (I know. I misspelled it. Oops!), its her song. I get that. But I’m positive that ME doesn’t sing it without having already gotten Joan’s permission to do so. And I never knew this song was at all, until I heard ME singing it long ago. So, its reaching a larger audience. Plus, the lyrics describe a time in my life that I never want to forget. The lyrics also Remind me of the lessons that I learned from back then. I can tell you one thing. If Melissa hadn’t ever sung this beautiful, sad song,... I never would have known it, at all. Well, different strokes, I guess. I love it, and am happy to have heard it sung, at all. You hate it sung by ME. Potato/potahto. 6 of 1/half a dozen of the other. None of this matters, though. The song is a favorite of (I bet ya) many. I’d actually like to hear Joan sing this. Just to compare. Peace ✌️.
I wouldn't trust too many people to cover this amazing song. Melissa I trust.

I think she really captures how heartbreaking this song actually is

one of the few singers who can actually make me cry. Beautiful.
Claudia E. Mulder
Same. What a talent
My son and I were sitting just a few feet away during this. So beautiful and emotional
Why would you dislike this wonderful performance? Just brilliant from one of the best live performers ever.
I think maybe they were the person made some kind of fool...just a guess. Regardless I don't understand, it's just breathtaking.
This women is sooooooo remarkable. I can't stop crying the way she does this song. WOW!!!!
One of your best songs Missy ❤
This is a fantastic cover version. Joan Armatrading’s original is still the best.
I think the beauty is in the differences. Obviously Melissa was moved by Joan’s song. There is a guy that did a great cover too.
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song from so long ago
My favourite version .
That woman and her voice are breathtaking. Thank you, Melissa! Swoon!

She's so Amazin... The lyrics just take my breath away!
As wad commented above, Joan Osborne wrote the original song
@@extraordinaryacoustics8424 Actually, it was written by Joan Armatrading
@@crosslink1493 I know. Wrote a 3rd verse for it, in which the new love replies, making a duet of it.
I'd love the piano chords for this version
why so few listens on this video? It's everything I love about Melissa. yah, she's performing but it's still raw and real.
Such a great story teller! I listen to these over and over. I plan to see her in concert when she goes on the road again. Not missing out on this kinda performance!
The look in her eyes.....
