Here is the 1.6 CDTI engine from the 2016 facelift Opel Insignia. The whisper diesel sounds good even after 220 000 km.

Great video. Is this the normal engine sound or is it rattling? I just bought a similar Insignia 1.6 CDTI B16DTH and just want to peace my mind that nothing wrong with the sound of the engine.

It is quite a refined engine for a diesel - at 2000 rpm on the highway it is as smooth as a gasoline. Of course on low revs and after 2500 rpm it gets loud, but keep it around 1200 and 2000 and it is punchy and economical.

Glad to know 👍🏼. I read that timing chain failure is one problem for this engine, do you know how to protect the engine against such issues? Of course service and oil change is sth major (I'm even thinking of engine oil flush using BG products EPR and DOC), anything else? Any advice appreciated 🙏🏻

I have had lots of problems with my 2017 Insignia am I only have 90000 miles on the clock. Timing chain tensioner failed which cost me £1,500 to have the timing chain kit replaced, and now I have a low oil pressure problem which is causing the oil pressure sensor to put the car into limp mode. So this is probably going to end up being an oil pump

@@guywilloughby3383 I am sorry to hear about these issues. Generally I think that the 1.6 cdti is not a bad engine, from reviews and personal impressions so far. Did you buy your Insignia brand new or used, could it be bad maintenance?

@TestAndReview I bought it used with 35,000 on the clock, it's had oil and filter done every 12500 miles. The problem with the tensioner is well documented, it requires a gasket modification, but most fail and then cause the rattle on the chain. I also find that it returns nowhere near the miles per gallon that it's supposed to,and compared to my 1.6 mondeo ,has very little power

@@guywilloughby3383 I agree about the consumption. Even though on mine it says 5.6 liters per 100 km on board computer, I would say real world is about 7.5 with the automatic gearbox. I assume it will be a liter down with the manual since I don't think the 6-speed auto is the most economical.
It is a shame, cause the insignia has lots of good qualities compared to many competitors - the infotainment system is best in calls, especially for a 2016 model, also the interior design is on another level, especially if compared with some Skoda-s or Seat-s. For a 136 hp the engine is quite punchy to be honest and relatively refined when talking about noise and vibrations.

someone said to me that was my mistake why the engine is louder cuz i changed only main chain , there is another one with oil pump and i didn't know that :D

@@MrMonsterTK Hah, there are the mechanics for that, they should know it, not you :) Other than that I think it is not a bad engine at all. How often do you think one should change these chains... each 100 000 km??
