    Back in middle school we hired a DJ for our dances, and the DJ’s equipment for the first three dances was QSC K12 tops above KW181 subs. On the fourth dance, he showed up with the RCF EVOX 12 sets very similar to these but black. I was amazed by the sound of the column tops: not quite as harsh to my ears. There was one catch that is worth noting though: the subs seemed like an obvious downgrade, and obviously the DJ thought the same. The next two dances until I graduated were done with the EVOX 12s paired with one of the old KW181 subs. Best of both worlds, and those events sounded the best of all of them. He’d put a low cut on the EVOXs to produce the kick bass only, and the KW181 took over for the really deep stuff.
    So, essentially, the RCF column arrays sound great, but don’t expect for a second that you’ll get the same amount of bass out of the 12s as you will get from an 18 inch sub.

      Can’t go wrong with the Evolves. Once pushed though, in my experience, the sound tends to distort so still looking for the Swiss Army knife of column arrays but our needs vary based off the types of events we do so the whole thing is subjective

    I bought the xvives about a year ago and they have been clutch! Great for running a satellite speaker or cocktail hour speaker off your main rig. Also I've used them as a wireless mic in a pinch before. I'm curious if the comparable sennheiser versions are better but for what I use these for, they've been great.

    • @lavishlifedjs

      @lavishlifedjs  Před rokem +3

      haha yeah, there is a lot to unpack in this video...I think being able to bring other lights in to my ape labs ecosystem is monumental...I do think there is lot of work on ape labs' side to improve the execution but man am I excited for what's to come...apparently, in future updates, we will be able to control moving heads !

      @@DJayRome12 first you need to buy the ape labs connect. Within that menu, there are options for the channels of dmx you want to use (refer to your light’s manufacturer manual to see which chanels are available and works best). If a channel doesn’t work in the manner you expect, I would recommend trying others. The particular channel will have a dmx address to input on your fixture that also correspond to either group 1, 2, 3 or 4.
      *you will need a wired or preferably wireless way of having the ape labs connect send dmx instructions to your fixture. You could either use wired dmx cables from the ape labs connect dmx out to your fixtures or try a wireless solution. There are many wireless dmx solutions out now. • @justingarret4776
    @justingarret4776 Před rokem +1

    Great vid as always. What lights are you using inside the totems? I don't have any Ape Labs lights yet (they're ordered) but I bought the Ape Connect so I could use the Ape app to control my other lights (Rockwedges, BestPar60's, Both uplights) and integrate them with future Ape lights when I don't want to use SoundSwithch. Now I can save that for when I'm using movers, etc. but for using just wash lights this is easier. I'm hopeful in the near future they'll add an amber slider so we can take advantage of using amber, maybe even UV.
    One thing I noticed in your video was the color variation between the totem lights and the Wash FX where as mine mirror each other. For example totem lights are pink while wash fx are blue. Mine would be both pink and then both blue
    Do you have those on separate groups and change the colors manually for each different group? I have just been turning on MusikMode and then switching through the programs to get some variation but all the lights light up the same color.
    Thank you

    • @lavishlifedjs
      @lavishlifedjs  Před rokem +1

      Thanks. I have coins under the totem for this event but I do use maxis sometimes.
      I utilize the groups for all my events. I am able to create more interesting light shows and turn off and on certain groups.
      Below are the instructions I wrote for my assistant whenever I work with one:
      Ape Labs Lights
      Group 1: Wash FX2, and V shaped coins
      Group 2: Reg shaped coins to uplight Speakers & 2 on the End of the Dj backdrop and stick
      Group 3: Maxis
      Group 4: Alternating Maxis
      Instructions:
      * Turn all lights on at one location.
      * Then turn group 1 to green, 2 to white, 3 to red and 4 to blue (using the app).
      Then distribute the lights.
      - [ ] Group 1: 2 for backdrop behind Dj & sweet heart table
      - [ ] Group 2: uplight for speakers and 2 for end piece for the Dj backdrop…ie (V2-V1-V1-V2). The stick on the Dj table.
      - [ ] Groups 3 and 4: Alternate maxis around the room (red,blue,red etc)

      These are primarily for quick non essential satellite speakers where interference wouldn’t be much of an issue
      I do think it’s site specific and situational. I didn’t get any interference at this site but I could see scenarios where one would. I would say if you are in a metropolitan area, these might not be right for you.
      For essential audio where I know I wouldn’t want any interference or drop outs, I have my sennheiser G4s for that.

    Hey brother how does the non ApeLabs lights work and appear with the Ape Connect?

    • @lavishlifedjs
      @lavishlifedjs  Před rokem +1

      In the app, toggle to the ape dmx menu (you have to do this each time you close then open the app).
The one I use are the donner wireless dmx kit I bought from Amazon. They work really well and I would recommend.
      Hope that helps.

      Situational. Crowded 2.4ghz might potentially cause some interference. These are great for cocktail speakers.
      I have the senheiser G4s if I were to use these for mains.
      But for a cocktail set up where I can tap in to my main system and be able to make announcements from my booth these work well.

      EVOX12 sound didn’t distort at high volume and didn’t drop off towards the back of the room. Even my wife noticed that the sound from the back in the video was still amazing in this video.
      With that stated, the Evolve sound is magical and complete…The added base gives it an edge as well.
