@ Paul D actually the way Garth holds his pen IS THE KEY TO THIS STYLE this allows a shallower angle of the pen to the paper this Leaves a lesser amount of ink for finer shading
What a surprise! An old-fashioned multi-sided style BIC is the LAST type of pen I would have guessed anyone might use for art. Each time I pick one up I'm lucky if the ball isn't stuck. What do you like about them that's better than all the smoother roller tip options including gels which are designed to glide so easily across the paper? I haven't tried many brands, but of the one's readily available at Walmart, the two best I've found so far for the money are Zebra Z series for a pure ball point tip, and Pilot's V pens, like V5 and V7 which are the smoothest pens I've ever used, but maybe they put out more ink too fast and too dark for the shading you're wanting to do, which is understandable. I never thought there would ever be a need for a high-resistance ball point pen that puts ink out slow. What is the whole point of BIC's orange casings at 0:17, both opaque and see thru orange? Why don't they just stick with regular clear so you can see how much ink you have left? When companies try to get fancy and so-called 'innovative,' it so often only confuses people.
Thank you for sharing Gareth! Can you specify which Bic pens exactly do you use? Like the medium one? is it the 1mm japanese Bic? cause there is fine 0.8 mm and there is cristal fine 0.8!! lots of Bic pens there and I can't decide which one is which! Also which brand of paper do you use? And why do you think it's best for pens? One last question, do u think it is possible to mix pens colors by layering it lightly?
your shads were beautiful in front of my eyes. And with a ball pen.!!!!!!!😇✨📔📕📖📗📘📙📚📓📒📑I think you study realy hard thats why it's good but i stil like it.😇😇😇😇😇.
Guessing by your name, you're Indian. If so, we don't have good drawing pens here. Some very expensive pens are available but those are not good for drawing because the ink flow is very different from that of those that produce the desired flow.
This is really helpful, I definitely need to try this out one day. You explain it really well! It must take forever to do a drawing like this, but I guess the result is well worth it. I was just wondering, you don't have a DeviantART account?
Thanks, glad it helped you out Theres other drawing videos on my channel which show my technique well too. I do from many years ago. I think it is under Gaz Edwards... I can't remember my login though...
Thanks for the upload. I have a big ass art kit it with 20 different graphite pencils, charcoal, erasers etc. All I use is my 2 ball point pens I got from the dollar store lol. I Love them and never feel the need to change.
You can't, as far as I know! I would not advise on spraying the drawing, I haven't come across a product that works. It is the beauty of using the ballpoint pen.
What's the difference between transparent bic pen and black or any coloured bic pen? What are the uses of transparent one? Do make a video on that.. Thankz..
If you stick to Bic ink pens, all their inks are the same. If you mix and match, say, use a Bic and a Pilot, you may find your drawing has two tones of black.
i see thanks for the advice ^^ im always wan to try pen drawing but duno the technique tqtq for sharing im graphite drawer( self learner) hope do more tutorial(more advance if ok) XD
Can ı ask, is there any different bic fine and bic cristal fine? Because ı couldn't find bic fine anywhere. Is that okey to do shade with bic cristal fine, light and dark tones?
I enjoy drawing in ballpoint pen, but have always worried about the permanence & light fastness once they are framed, matted and glass put over them. What can you tell me about this? Do they fade over time, especially if hung in a well-lighted are with lots of sunshine?
No I haven't sorry. My best guess is to practice that with a real life model. Clothes can be really awkward. Maybe that's why most artists prefer no clothes!
+GarethEdwardsArt oooooohhhhhh hahahaha that's one way to look at it. well in any case, this tutorial was really helpful, i had never known how to correctly shade, and this helped me a lot. so yeah! thank you. ((btw the music was really well chosen))

Going super lightly is the most difficult part of the entire drawing.
WalnutTime especially when you’re at the end!
@@GarethEdwardsArt it's so hard to get smooth too, it always turns out rough for me....
Best way to get around it dont think about it too much just know its gone look good
I've watched a lot of other ballpoint tutorials, but this one was the most helpful.
Thanks Christine
True

@ Paul D actually the way Garth holds his pen IS THE KEY TO THIS STYLE this allows a shallower angle of the pen to the paper this Leaves a lesser amount of ink for finer shading

This helped me a lot! Thanks :) this video is great👌
It's a great help. thankyou!!!
Usinf the edge of the pen as you would a pencil also works to get very soft lines for shading or sketching out pieces
Great tips!!
Thanks!
*Begins shade*
*Accidentally adds a harsh line*
“Guess I’ll start here...”
that made me laugh :) - Done that before!

Don’t forget that the type of paper really affects how smoothly the ballpoint glides on the paper
I have always tried to produce but I was wondering how you come up such a supper strong work. I was asking can you use one pen to complete a drawing.

I had the same pen in my hand when i stumbled upon this vid! lol

Really useful! Cheers

This is so so amazing...
Great work man...
But from where did u buy those pens...I'm unable to find them.

I'm assuming the same technique can be applied to tattooing is that correct?
Will any pen do? I just have a regular pen ( like 1 dollar )for writing or is there like a good qualification of that said pen
This is really helpful, I definitely need to try this out one day. You explain it really well! It must take forever to do a drawing like this, but I guess the result is well worth it.

Genio.
Wow!!
This was very interesting! Could I use the same techniques with pencil?
Yes
thanks!
Hey, I also draw a lot with these and I noticed the ink seems to lose its color with the years. Do you know how to avoid that?
Great
Clear and to the (ball) point. Thank you Gareth
Haha good one!
Nice
That video is really helpful! You're so talented. Could you please tell me what paper you use? 😊

Hello great video can you please tell me the name of the music?
Show us the 3D shading , how to achieve this effect. Please
How do you eliminate that purple cast on areas of high ink coverage? Is there something to spray on to give the ink a matt finish?
You can't, as far as I know! I would not advise on spraying the drawing, I haven't come across a product that works. It is the beauty of using the ballpoint pen.

They are exactly the same! Just a different case of plastic.
Wasn't all ink the same o.O? Cuz I can't tell the diff in ball pen ink or is there a technique to know it
If you stick to Bic ink pens, all their inks are the same. If you mix and match, say, use a Bic and a Pilot, you may find your drawing has two tones of black.

what kind of heavy weight paper is that?
Which pen is used for such sketching
I enjoy drawing in ballpoint pen, but have always worried about the permanence & light fastness once they are framed, matted and glass put over them. What can you tell me about this? Do they fade over time, especially if hung in a well-lighted are with lots of sunshine?
Kent Strabala all I know is that it'll definitely last Longer than pencil
Nice... This what I was looking for
+Mohammed Ehfaj Khan Glad it could help! Anything else I can do?
+GarethEdwardsArt have you ever done a tutorial on clothing details? you know, when the person sits down then the shirt kind of folds together
