    Title: The Child Deirdre
    A Celtic Tale is a magnificently orchestrated Celtic fantasy soundtrack inspired by the beautiful and tragic medieval Irish legend of Deirdre brings together the best elements of Celtic folk, classical, ambient and film music. Cinematic in scale, mythic in dimension, romantic in concept - A Celtic Tale sets a bold new standard for the popular Celtic genre.
    Jeff Danna is an award-winning Canadian film composer. Born in Burlington, Ontario, to a musical family active in local theatre and church choir, Danna was a reluctant young piano student but found solace in an electric guitar left behind at his home by a friend. Unknowingly following in the path of three generations of Winnipeg mandolin players, progress came quickly. He began playing professionally at the age of 15 until a hand injury brought his performance career to a halt at 22. He has composed or co-composed scores for a wide range of films and television, including The Boondock Saints (1999), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Silent Hill (2006), The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009), The Good Dinosaur (2015), Storks (2016), The Breadwinner (2017), The Addams Family (2019), Onward (2020), Guillermo Del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia (2020), Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon (2022) and Julia (2022). His older brother, composer Mychael Danna, is a frequent collaborator, and the two have received Emmy nominations for their work on Camelot (2011), Tyrant (2014-2016), and Alias Grace (2017). Additionally, Danna has been nominated for six Annie Awards, won five BMI Film & TV Awards, a Gemini Award, a Genie award, two Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and 15 SOCAN Awards.

    Nearly... 20 years on and I still know _every_ note by heart... that's how much this album lived with me... and how much it still means to me...

      Really appreciate you sharing that . We spent this fall preparing sheet-music books on those two cds , and we are grateful to people like you who are still listening !

    Man, I grew up listening to this. This has always been a source of just unbridled peace and adventure. So many times how I'd imagine my little fictional characters just running around to the entire album. Good times. I should do that again.

    I remember coming across this in my Dad's study years ago. He always had eclectic taste in music, and this was a real treat to stumble upon. My sister and I were in middle school at the time and were working on writing the next great fantasy novel. (We were real cool, to be sure). Used to imagine this stuff as the soundtrack. Wish I could find more stuff like it. Maybe the algorithm on youtube will guide me somewhere as refreshing as this was 25 years ago. Glad it's still being listened to today, even if the story we wrote never got finished haha. Someday maybe.

      Thanks for the backstory , Nick. Glad to hear that we have some generational listeners ! You will find quite a bit of stuff on my channel here that is like that :starting with A Celtic Romance , then Uncorked , Onward , Good Dinosaur , Breadwinner. ....We used our way of combining different groups and sizes and genres on all of those collections .
      Thanks for stopping by.

    I was only a kid when this album played repetitively in my parents old home stereo. It was my mom fault, she fell inevitably in love with this peaceful melodies and I fell in love watching her smiling and dancing listening to this.
    Yesterday, more than 20 years later, that kid got married. And for whatever reason this album came to my head while I was talking with my mom and thinking about all the things she did for me.
    Thanks for make my mom's days happier and thanks for creating such a magic nostalgia between her and I.

    Omigosh. We watched Onward tonight and when I saw the names of the composers during the credits, I thought, "Wait. I know those guys from somewhere..."
    I used to own this CD. I played it over and over and over for my daughter when she was a baby (she was born in '97). Played it until it was scratched beyond all hope. We're listening to it here now. Love it just as much now as we did then. So beautiful!

      Hi Cjzande , thanks for the note. My son was also born in '97 and he heard it a lot when he was a baby too ! I'm glad the Celtic albums stayed with you , they were a kind of beginning for us also , and there is a kind of creative throughline that leads right from 'Celtic Tale' to 'Onward'. Thanks for stopping by.

    Can't stop listening to a celtic tale and a celtic romance. The boondocks saints opening song was my first introduction to you guys. Recently started getting into tin whistles and then found tale and romance. Really enjoy the sound of this song. What instrument is that in the opening of the child Deidre? Can't quite match it with a clarke d or shearwater low d whistle ;)

    • @JeffDannaMusic
      @JeffDannaMusic  Před 3 lety +2

      Well it's been a while since we recorded that one ! But we recorded the whistle parts with Lorreto Reid in Toronto - she's a wonderful player . I thought that she used her ' normal ' whistle on that one ....but she did have a lower D whistle with her also. So it was one of those ...and not as low as the bass whistle that Suzanne Teng plays on A Celtic Romance - the second album . Thanks for your interest .
