About The Expanse Seasons 3:

About The Expanse Seasons 4:

Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.

AMAZING JOB WITH SEASON 4!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR SEASON 5!!!
Omg! Hats off to season 4 so good looking forward to season 5, I couldn't stop watching season 4.
Even restraining to binge watch, the season was over too quickly. I could watch a new episode every day
Watched...and can't wait for the next one. Thank you for picking the Expanse up.
@@DKGCustom I tried. I said I am going to savour this...two days later I'm now waiting for season five, sigh.
They forgot "You're not that guy" ; "I am that guy"
How could they, it's one of his best lines.
Had to re-watch it:
czcams.com/video/pzuu8U-ge7I/video.html&t=8
That's the best of all.
He doesn't say it but the beginning of the vid where he turns around, it is right before he saids, "I am that guy"
Yeah they teased it. I think they were trying to leave out major spoilers.
"Naomi is like a sister to me. Don't get me wrong, I'd do her if she'd let me."
Matt Sears “I’m glad we had this talk”
@@abbaszaidi8371 Thank you
"So does that mean we're not fucking anymore?"
that was funny. Sick but funny lol
Quinky Amos > Self-aware murdering Amos
They couldn’t have cast a better Amos. Every time he talks I have a big smile on my face.
I was impressed that he actually went to psychologists and asked them what would a character who had been through all of this be like.
Amos is da bomb, just finished book 8 can’t wait for 9. Amazing series both in book and picture
Yep. Clearly one of the characters that is actually better in the series than in the books. excellent performance and portrayal
@@paddyokearney6434 That sounded like something Zatlan Ibrahimovic would have said about Zlatan. XD
Yep. Best character. So completely self aware
Amos: Hey Chrissy
Avasarala: Don't call me that. I'm not your stripper
Amon: You could if you wanted to be.
Love that scene!
Probably my favorite Amos line. Avasarala was speechless!!
I think it was “you could be both.”
Don't call me that. I'm not your FAVORITE stripper thats the correct line :)
"dont call me that, im a politician, not your favorite stripper"
"you could be both"
I have never seen a genuine sociopath portrayed with such awareness and with such a strong undercurrent of good person combined with crippling sadness. When he opens up about the things that made him the way he is and shows how he is trying do be better, it's some of the saddest stuff in this series.
Chaotic good.
He's not sociopathic, the fact that he's very empathetic to children suffering is proof of that, both in the books and in the show. Emotionally stunted, maybe, but I would say it's more along the lines of morally apathetic.
@@Gaudy6523 Agreed, and thanks for pointing that out. Amos is as complex a character as they come, masterfully played by Wes Chatham. I've never read a series that translated the complexity of the inner narrative into visual scenes like this one. Sadly, but happily, i'm about to go watch the last episode season 4. BTW, all the actors are amazing. The writers, the crew, etc. Check out Adam Savages latest with Dom and Stephen.
@@Gaudy6523 It's pretty clear that something happened to Amos when he was 5 that makes him unable to empathize with anyone except children and possibly parents defending their children (the only adult character he has any emotional connection with is Prax, the father searching for his daughter at any cost)
He's no textbook sociopath, but when not dealing with children he displays sociopathic behaviours.
Amos is not a sociopath. I just posted why above!!!
"I don't want to fight you Alex.....because if we do, who's gonna fly the ship?"
the rationality doesn't come from realising Alex is the only one who can fly the ship. It comes from realising if he and Alex would fight, Alex would lose for a fact (and at least not be able to perform his duties, if not be dead)
My fave Amos moment doesn't involve him saying anything. On Ganymede, when Meng (the botanist looking for his daughter) called Amos his best friend in the whole world, Amos just had this amazing startled look on his face. But he didn't contradict Meng either, and you could just tell that at that moment, Amos would have taken a bullet for the Doc, no questions asked. Heck, a couple of moments later, he kind of did.
He even has Prax listed as Best Friend in his phone.
The whole exchange running between Prax and Amos about how a child needs at least 1 person that they can rely on shows that Amos knows what's important. When he takes Meng's hand, you see that he would have taken a bullet for her as well. He knew that if Prax had killed Strickland, he wouldn't be the man that Meng would need to guide her through life.
Amos even repeats the line about Prax being his best friend after Prax leaves the Roci.
I agree, that was a powerful moment. I love after he kills Strickland, Mei asks "Where is Dr. Strickland?" Amos replies "He's not coming with us"....didnt miss a beat. :)
@@demetriajeffries1649 Mei : )
Amos and Holden's relationship development was one of the best parts of The Expanse. The bond they develop. The way Holden knows when to let Amos do what Amos does and the way Amos learns to trust Holden's leadership.
Absolutely...I gotta say I really love how Amos' character developed throughout the series!
The best was when Holden told Amos that Miller told him to slow down when they went for the ring, which made no sense. Amos believed Holden because Holden never asked him to trust him before
My favorite example of that is when they talk to the guy who finds kids for chicken, where Holden holds Naomi back when Amos "persuades" him
That is something he EXPLICITLY says himself to Holden, in the books.
thats why hes named holden, hes the only thing holden amos back from fuckin you up, lol
I think Amos finally felt fear again with the whole being blind/death slugs combo
Totally agree. He was in such a bad place in that episode. If that situation had gone longer, it'd be most interesting. He was great and i was actually very scared/sad for him. Fuckin lofe the actor who plays him, easily my fav of the bunch
Maybe more anger, desperation, anguish, and resignation than fear. But yeah, seeing Amos in a position of extreme vulnerability really developed his character wonderfully.
Well that situation explicitly takes him back to when he was five years old.
Cook I really need to read The Churn yeah?
@@RateOfPenetration I mean, not really. I haven't read it, and I got it from context clues. In this video you hear him say that he hasn't felt fear since he was five years old. In the episode where he freaks out he talks about being locked in darkness and thinking he was dead when men came in and did *something* to him. He also mentions having worn pumps. The details are there.
When Murtry hits Amos and Amos replies "Thank you", that look of instant regret on Murtry's face. lol
Kind of like a ...
"wack"
followed by Amos's
"THWACK!"
HHHUUUUUUUUGE mistake !!! :)
also that "Thank you" with that look was scary as hell XD

Anyone want a spinoff series that is just Alex and Amos going on small adventurers?
actually.. what a great idea!
We must take this to the Bezos!!!
"Alex & Amos"
sounds like a comedy duo.
Sigh Phi Guy yup
The Tayterminator I mean, even if it is just short webisodes between seasons it could keep fans fed while waiting for another season.
He is the backbone of not only the crew, but the show itself. I seriously don't think I'd be as into The Expanse without him.
Chrisjen also carries the entire show, her and amos are the best characters in it
Totally agree, sometimes the other characters make morality way more tedious than it needs to be
Amos, Bobbie and Prax are my 3 staple characters, and Drummer in the show
It wouldn't be the same without Amos but this show is good enough to overcome a loss with great writing.
aye your defo right, he is the unsong hero of it
"Someday I think you and I are gonna end up bloody"
"How about now? I'm free right now..."
That scene with Murtry is pure gold
That scene is exactly what sticks in my mind pretty much out of all the others.
When we first were introduced to Amos I thought, oh here we go, the muscle-bound and too-cool-to-be-true dude. But the actor played the character without being any of those things, eventually winning me over to the point I’m following Amos even more than the others. Hat tip to the actor!
I liked Amos too until you actually see his as just a simp playing like a tool, doesn’t treat gender equally, always getting to violent fight with guys?! Tbh what a simp, tell me how he’s not mostly a muscle mucho tool
@@richrich3304 You don't get it.
The character is a sociopath. He's a much more realistic sociopath than we've ever seen on screen before. He puts Dexter to shame.
@@edwardfletcher7790 And whats more, he knows EXACTLY what kind of monster he is, and has inside himself. and knows he cannot trust his own judgements. and so he latches on to someone that he thinks has the morals he needs. Started with Naomi... Then after she kinda betrayed them, Holden. Because, like he says, HOlden doesnt always do the right thing, but he does what he thinks is right. And you notice once youve earned his trust, its like having a one man army at your side.
Kudos to both the writers and Wes, he just nails it time and time again
He's so good.
Aside from not being balding and soft around the middle he was spot on from the books. I love the final epilog in the series.
What I like about Amos the most is he's straight up the most honest person in the universe, there is no ego no hidden agenda or innuendo, what you see is everything there is, he's all so blissfully simple and at the same time incredibly complex because of that because the universe he lives in isn't simple or straight forward and watching how he navigates it all is fascinating.
I honest believe the asperger fan theory, he nails their condition perfectly. No hidden agenda or innuendo, never lies and extremely intelligent and not socially developed
He is that guy
I like how Amos calls Avasarala "Chrissy" in the books. Wes portrays him so well it's scary
Wes read the books Amos it's is favourite character.
"Come with us, please."
"OK, but they started it and all of them were alive when I left the room."

@@SamA-nj7yr When the reporter asks Amos who Prax was in the episode after that one, Amos says "he was my best friend in the whole world."
That choked me up when he said that.
Great quote
“You’re not that guy” was the best Amos scene. Awesome character.
Prax: "I thought you weren't a homicidal maniac."
Amos: "I didn't kill that guy."

@@greenknightable My favorite part of that scene is actually Holden, grabbing Naomi and holding her back so Amos can work. ZERO intention of stopping Amos at all here.
How do you know what it's like to walk in pumps.
I didn't always work in space.
Might be my favorite line of the whole series. With bonus points for the reaction of both Bobbie and Avasarala.
"Nice of Avasarala to clear up our salvage claim."
"How'd she look?"
"Fine."
"No. I mean, like, what was she wearing?"
It's a funny throwaway line...right up until you learn why he knows how to walk in pumps, at which point it becomes seriously bleak.
@@Phentari yeah there is a line when they're on Tycho where he pretty much says he was in that line of work, making for an awkward moment when Alex tried to make light of it.
That line could be better but it accomplished the goal of making things awkward
Missing my favorite
Holden: It feels like we're covering up a crime.
Amos: Ya... That's exactly what it feels like.
I imagine Amos dug more than a few holes in the general vicinity of Baltimore before he got out.
Amos is an intergalactic treasure.
Amos doesn't deliver threats he makes promises. His ability to keep those promises is nothing short of legendary.
"I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."
That scene always gets me choked up.
@@thepuncakian2024 Yep - go to scene of you need a good cry
Anderson Dawes:
Stop stop, now you getting me all choked up
Miles Curtis Watson when Julie says “I’m done fighting, I just want to go home” is another good one.
@@Nemo66577 That was a telling moment of clarity, where we see just how natively intelligent Amos is. He's lacking certain interpersonal skills - or perhaps simply doesn't care to conform to the social norms that dictate their use - but his observation and intelligence means he can still read a person, correctly and quickly. Amos is a highly competent tactical thinker, his situational awareness is probably on a very close par with Bobbie Draper.
"You're not that guy....I am that guy" god what a great line.
*Wes Chatham ... Amos Burton:* "Murder Cuddles". He is that guy.
You missed my three favorites. First from S2E10 right after the scene you played Prax says to Amos something like "I thought you said you weren't a homicidal maniac" and he retorts "I didn't kill him". Second is the moment Holden and Naomi announce they're sleeping together and it's revealed that Alex and Amos had a running bet about it. Third and best is right after that when Holden talks to Amos alone to make extra sure he's cool with it and Amos first says Naomi's like a sister to him then adds "don't get me wrong I'd do her if she let me".
Which episode is that second one from?
from the same as the third one.
@@pranavghantasala6808 somewhere on S2, maybe first 5 episodes
Not exact but close enough
"Your hand looks better"
"I'm gonna try it out right now"

Filip Krasilnikoff wait a second....was that a masturbation reference? lol I just realized 😅
@@otmanh Amos has his priorities right in every situation.
otmanh I believe it was meant to sound like that - and that’s how Alex appears to have interpreted it, because he has that “eeew” expression on his face; like “dude, I didn’t need to hear this”. But then we learn that what he really meant was he was going to go and use that hand to brutally beat up Murtry, the evil corporate dude.
That grin with the "thank you" was one of the scariest I've ever seen.
otmanh No. he was going to try it against Murty’s face.
"I'm going after Holden, and if you are in my way...I'm going through you"
"Wei, tell your boss I'm coming for him. Don't be there when I do."
Murtry
I wish I had a ride or die friend like Amos. His loyalty surprises me every time. One of my favorite characters in the show
The only reason I *wouldn't* want such as friend is because I know I couldn't keep up. He'd be there for me, but I'd end up letting him down. Amos deserves better than me.
Loyalty also gets you burned.
Amos Burton 2020: He is that guy
Dragoninthewest 😂
No he killed that guy
Amos and Avasarala: by far the two best characters of the series.
Am I the only one that wants them to get together. The only 2 people I ship.
I liked Amos until you actually see his as just a simp playing like a tool, doesn’t treat gender equally, always getting to violent fight with guys?!
@@loriannwhite8384you’re not alone. It would be delightfully chaotic.
THE most nuanced character ever to appear in a space-opera - brought to life convincingly by Wes Chatam! I can't imagine another actor pulling it off to such outstanding effect.
I'd love to see "The Churn" (Amos Burton's back-story novella) produced as a one-off movie-of-the-week or an extended episode!

Seems my comment predated the episode "The Churn", in which Wes Chatam played the major story arc.
It was actually a brilliant way to turn the novella into an episode.
He's my favourite character in the entire show. And that's considering that so much of the cast is just so much awesome. Ashford, Drummer, Alex, Bobbie, Chrisjen, Miller...so many good characters.
Poor ashford.
I'll miss Miller
I miss Miller, Alex and Fred Johnson.

I love Bobby's reaction in the background when Amos talks about walking in pumps. First she doesn't catch onto the weirdness, then has a "Wait, what the hell" expression when Avasarala starts asking him how he would know about walking in pumps, then does the facial equivalent of "This only raises more questions, but you know what? I don't even want to get into it."
Amos is the best character in the show hands down. I’m not used to loving a character that is clearly a sociopath. I would do unspeakable things for an Amos spinoff where he’s the main character.
What kind of things?
Amos isn't a sociopath at all - he has complex PTSD from extensive trauma. A sociopath wouldn't repeatedly seek out people to follow morally nor recognize the fractured, dysfunctional nature of their own instincts.
I'm a huge fan of Drummer too. Miller was the best character while he was alive, hands down IMHO. But Amos is up there.
Miles Curtis Watson believe it or not I wasn’t trying to clinically diagnose him of a developmental disorder
I really like Amos don't get me wrong. But he is a better side character. Your Muscle generally in a Sci fi will always be a side kick for plot purposes.
My favourite character of the series and the books. Huge plaudits to Wes Chatham, you just know he has read through the books, including the novella The Churn (which is terrific by the way), and really got into the skin of Amos Burton, and his portrayal of the character is awesome! Cannot wait to see Season 5, which hopefully will be a longer one than Season 4, which as amazing as it is, I felt 10 episodes was too short and more time could have been spent telling the story in Cibola Burn as opposed to setting up Season 5 and Nemesis Games.
Yes I also felt like it was too short. Bursted through those 10 episodes in one day. But then again, season 5 is already in production so we might not have to wait so long for the next season.
I gotta say the casting for Marco is perfect.
I love how in real life, Wes Chatham and Cara Gee are funny and with bright personality. They really elevated those characters and showed their love for this series.
Yes, I agree. And (spoiler alert)
I don't think it was a good choice to spend so much time one Bobby and Mars. A little bit would make sense to show where Marco got his weapons, but it took away too much time from Cibola Burn which was my favourite book of the series.
@@kalebbruwer There is a whole novella that's just Bobby on Mars.
“I am that guy”
“I’m gonna need my gun back”
Deliciously handsome, undeniably sociopathic, unapologetically violent, and irresistibly fierce . Good god, I love Amos. He steals every scene he’s in. Perfect casting, perfect portrayal.
Best SF TV show ever, period.
Then you haven't watched Babylon 5. Sorry. ;)
Baptiste Legrand that’s not saying much XD lol
@@toratle6356 B5 is my fave above all too. But things change. B5 was the best of it's decade. As Firefly was for the 00s. EXPANSE is of the 10s...and a good chance of the 20s.
Amos is just a gift that keeps on giving.
Every scene of Amos is best of Amos.
Amos is the soul of The Expanse and Wes Chatham ROCKS!
Such an interesting and complex character. It’s like he tries to be a good person, not because he wants to be, but because he sees it’s how the people who he likes are. He just doesn’t understand how to though so he latches on to characters who are like Naomi and Holden
He actually explains just that in one of the books when he is interviewed by the reporter. Abbadon's Gate, I think.
Diogo (to Naomi): No, You coming with me. You deserter. You under arrest.
Amos: Okay, I'm gonna need that gun back.
I love everyone's reaction to Amos's indifference to everything.
I like the quiet respect that Amos and Bobby have with each-other.
Me too. Mutual respect between raw power and discipline.
I love the Expanse but Amos is at another level.
when you see wes in interviews and how warm and friendly he is, for him to be able to nail a character with extreme dissociative disorder is an absolute credit to his hard work and talent as an actor. amazing work
Re: the chicken madness, I love how Holden goes from trying to keep Amos in check to holding people back who are trying to keep Amos in check in this series.
Amos is the best character in the show and no one can convince me otherwise
In Caliban's War, when Amos talks to Naomi briefly about why he wants to find Mei, gives her hints of his background in Baltimore and Holden overhears their conversation. I still get chills reading that part. It makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck everytime. It just comes out of nowhere, catches you totally off-guard.
I love a little exchange between Amos and Alex
Amos: I haven’t felt fear since I was 5 years old.
Alex: man I wish I could go through life without feeling Fear.
Amos: No, you don’t.
Just the underlying message that he says that with is incredible and scary to look into.
Going your whole life without that primal “oh s*** ima gonna die here to this now” feeling while seemingly a good thing, is actually not all it’s cracked up to be. I think the think Amos ment to say was that he hasn’t felt a strong emotional response to things in a Very long time due to his upbringing. I just love all the undertones in that statement.
Sylar's Shades and thank you for your response, I never meant to offend, I just wanted to say how I felt about the little exchange.
Forgot "i'm gonna need my gun back" just after entering tycho and surrendering weapons
They also missed when he spaced the film crew. That whole "You're gonna want to put your lid on" with the hand motions... I lol every time.
I also love the throw away line to Alex: ‘they don’t, I checked’ *having just threatened to murder both of them*
Amos Burton is easily my favorite character from "The Expanse", so surreally well portrayed by Wes Chatham. That character and portrayal are as bad-assed as any I have ever seen...such a complex mixture, capable of sociopathic action, and the cynicism his youth brought him, but yet hanging on to the strength (for instance), to demonstrate his humanity to Prax and Ming. Both the character (as written) and Chatham, in his portrayal are both first rate.
Amos is absolutely my favorite character in the show! He's so sociopathic and violent but so likable at the same time.
Amos is a simple man, he loves to kill [ in his free ] time :D
Also huge shout out to Wes Chatham for portraying him, he does a brilliant job! :)
Not sure it's fair to say Amos loves to kill. He says at least a few times that he acts out of necessity not enjoyment
@@redmilo92 he does love it, he just dosent like it that he does. (He says that himself in the books )
Not only because how he describe it in the books partly, but because it's an english phrase ( to kill time ) I found it odd enought to use it.
Also there are so many odd references when he stay there still and get a command and all what he interprets is he supposed to kill someone...
..but he's not really a simple man, but a somewhat broken man with a very complicated history. He doesn't enjoy killing, for him, he kills when necessary, just like you'd push someone out of the way of an oncoming car about to hit them. Because it's the right thing to have done.
Amos only kills when he has to and only kills those who need killing. I don't think he enjoys it, but he does what needs to be done. I, for one, wouldn't mind having him watch my back. I would feel safe.
"Everyone leaves unfinished business. That's what dying is." Truer words were never spoken.
Forgot "Is there something we have to do" when talking to the security guy that didn't walk away.
Amos moment of the season for me right there. "Thank you" is great but there's just something about Amos interacting with that chatty security guy that tickles me pink
That bit where Meng described him as my best friend ever was the sweetest thing ..

That scene is powerful. Fear is a natural response. When you lose that ability, you become something else...
Could have not casted this character better. Honestly one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen. By far the star of the show. Really, Amos, Miller, Murty, and Ashford are all fantastic.

Season4 Ep10 Amos: "Thank you" (smiling at Murtry)
Amen to Amazon for bringing this series back from death after uncompetent fools at Syfy closed it...
Thanks to SyFy for making the first three seasons.
Old comment, but the deal Syfy had for The Expanse for streaming was terrible and they were effectively in the negative with the show. The agreement meant the Syfy only made money on the original airing of the show, so basically only when it aired on TV in it's normal slot. Any time it was streamed (which was the majority of the time) they saw basically $0.
@@bleepbloop101010101 Why they hell would they write a deal like that knowing that cord cutting is becoming more prevalent?
@@IncognitoSprax I don't know the specifics but it was a deal the network made with streaming services, I'm not sure how much control over the deal the showrunners actually had (possibly none). I read this a while ago so I don't remember it 100%.
I think Amos and Miller are the best characters in the show. They've always been the ones that seemed the most human to me. Amos in particular has had one of the best character arcs i've seen in a show in a long time. Wouldn't mind the spinoff with him as the main character, maybe with Alex as his sidekick.

Amos is one of my favorite characters of all time.
Wes Chatham has really grown into the role of Amos. He is doing a great job, as are the writers bringing this show out of the books. THANK YOU AMAZON FOR SAVING THE EXPANSE!!!
Wes Chatham has totally brought Amos to life. So awesome seeing him in a great sci-fi series like The Expanse. Amos has gone through a lot of growth in 5 seasons.

I cant wait for season 5. Best book with Amos IMO.
And those who didn't read the books, don't know that all of this is just the intro.
Amos Burton was one of the best developed characters I've ever seen, and Wes Chatham played him brilliantly. In fact, since I'm looking for something new to watch tonight, I'm heading over to IMDB next to find some of his other work.
"I am that guy" still the best line and scene for Amos. Everything else is just gravy lol
I just love Amos. There's so much pain and confusion there. Major kudos to Wes for doing such a brilliant job with what could have been a really cliched character. I think he's my fave.
By far one of the best non scifi/scifi/science related tv dramas i've ever watched. Engaging, beautifully shot, Grade A acting and portrayal of each character had their own shine and charisma. I'm sad that it ended and I hope they do a spin-off or with any luck do another couple seasons. Outstanding show!
Wes Chatham doesn't meet the physical description of Amos at all, but he absolutely NAILS the energy of that character.
the crew are portrayed as everyday people, each has a background and each has a current day, but each proves that every person has a heart and can be a hero. It is a story of every man we choose what we want to be. we will be remembered for what we choose. what is the old saying a butcher, a beggar ,a pope or a king.
Honestly one of the best characters in TV history.
I love Amos.
Such an awesome character, geniusly played by Wes👏
Amos is the best character in a show full of amazing characters. Perfectly cast, too.
Superb writing and acting. One of the best characters in sci-fi ever.
Missed my favourite scene at the end of Season 4 where Murtry hit him and he says thanks.
Where's crazy eye Amos from the final episode on season 4 ? He says "thank you" then... beast mode engaged.
If only you would finish season 6 and make more seasons. It's one of the few shows I will watch over and over again.
Be patient. There's plenty of more story to tell, and a rabid fanbase. The cast is unanimously on board to come back. The sets are in storage. It may take a few years, but I'd be blown away if the Laconia story isn't put to the small screen.
And hey, there's always the books, which start out great and only get better.
Never cancel this show. Amos is too good.
The best show Amazon prime has bought or made. The best Scifi show made to date. Easily.
Also - one of the best sci-fi characters ever made in terms of complexity and character arch.
one of the most interesting characters in media in the last two decades I've seen
Oliver Scheel Walter White..?
@@thealucas7247 tthey anways used his "death is near" excuse to explan his extremeness, Amos was born this way!
@@thealucas7247 but Walter White is
also a really good character...
Oliver Scheel So because he is extreme from the get go he is on par with the slow decent into darkness Walter throws himself into because his ego is the most important thing to him?
man, i love this show so much, I never heard about it until I randomly saw a clip going around FB back in march, and I fell in love with it, I binged watch all the seasons over 2 weeks, I am so looking forward for another season.

Idiot: “Someday I think, you and I are going to end up bloody.”
Amos: “How about now? I’m free right now.”
Epic badass response.
