Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus Train at Hoosac Tunnel - Last Time Ever! - Spooky Horn!

  • In the early morning hours of April 11, 2017 (around 1:45 AM!) the world famous Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey circus train (Red Unit) rolled through the historic Hoosac tunnel. This was the last time it will ever go through the tunnel since the circus is closing forever in May, 2017. I was glad to be able to make the trip over and see it!
    This shot is from the East Portal in Florida, MA. The train had just come from North Adams, MA on the West side of the tunnel after departing Mechanicville, NY several hours earlier.
    Being lead by CSX 3338 ([CSX] Boxcar Logo), CSX 582 (CSX Current scheme) and NS 8406, this trio was pulling 54 cars: 34 coaches and 20 flat cars.
    Also, listen to that horn! Trust me, it was very creepy in the wee hours of the morning in the valley of the foggy Hoosac Tunnel!

    After what I've heard of the Hoosac Tunnel with the hauntings I'm surprised anyone would get near there let alone at night. Good job thanks for posting it. Have a great day everyone

    "The Greatest Show On Earth." It must be if it takes 60 rail cars to move all its people and equipment. It's always boggled my mind how the circus handled all that.

    The only train in the US that had regular dining service 3 times a day and 7 days a week. maybe Amtrak should buy the train and run it as a normal train on their route.

      Another American icon erased forever they lied about the animals and got them shutdown it was the main attraction! These animals were their livelihood and well cared for constantly inspected we are losing American heritage and culture.

    Cost in 1870 Dollars: $21 million
    Cost in lives lost: Nearly 200
    Time to build: 1851/1875 24 years
    Two million tons of rock were carved out of the Berkshire Mountain range to build the Hoosac Tunnel. Twenty million bricks were used to line the tunnel walls. The Hoosac Tunnel project took so long to complete that critics nicknamed it "The Great Bore."
    As of 2023, approximately five freight trains per day operate through the tunnel. On February 12, 2020, the tunnel collapsed approximately 300 feet (91 m) from the West Portal North Adams side.

    • @Imrfilms
      @Imrfilms  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you! I'm not 100% sure, but from I looked up it seem that the first three cars were animal cars, then the car at @4:05 (has a big door with slotted windows and a a large, flat thing on the roof which I think is a ventilation fan) is what I'm pretty certain was the elephant car.

    • @christiandelahoz2326
      @christiandelahoz2326 Před 5 lety +5

      Most of the animals went to other circuses, the elephants went to Ringling elephant facility so they can research them to help wild elephants. Circus is not torture.

      Circuses are pretty bad. Barnum & Bailey have been cited and fined numerous times, and their elephant facility is one big tuberculosis germ bowl.
