- Join me on an Amish Quilt Shop Tour to see some beautiful Amish style quilt projects. Our Lancaster County, PA road trip took us through the Amish Country to see the local farms and have a better understanding of the Amish lifestyle. It’s a wonderful way to see Amish life and the artistic Amish handcrafts. Handmade Amish quilts are well known throughout the quilting world for distinctive look. Visit a few Amish quilt shops with me and see the gorgeous Amish handmade quilts.
An Amish quilt handmade with needle and thread is similar to other quilts yet is has some unique differences. Amish quilting is completely handstitched and generally uses solid fabrics instead of multi-colored prints. These saturated solid quilt fabrics project a strong sense of design when placed together in traditional quilt block patterns. An Amish gift shop will likely sell Amish quilts, wall hangings and quilting pillows. There are also many other small, quilted items Amish women make such as pot holders, placemats and table runners. If you ever find yourself in the area, be sure to stop by and enjoy and lovely quilt shopping experience!

Quilting by Lea Louise Quilts
I live and quilt in Lancaster County. So if you come again, i can point towards my favorite Quilt Shops. Most of them do not sell quilts. One quilt store that sells quilts displays them on a bed. There might be 20 on a bed and you fold them back to see each of them.
Thanks for such a gracious invitation, Karen! I'll take you up on that as I have family in MD. The shop will all those quilts on the bed sounds like a fun visit! Thanks again & Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
It’s so fun to see the different fabric. That’s why it’s so fun to shop in other stores.
So true, Diann! Every shop has a buyer who knows their clientele and orders accordingly. Shops in the same city can have very different fabrics. It gets even more varied the farther you travel which is why I never miss a shop! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I just realised there's areally good lesson in the blue & white quilt
It has a mistake at the top left, but the quilter didn't let it stop them from finishing and displaying it and it is stunning! I need to not focus on my quilting mistakes so much.
I live; n the UK. I would so love to visit some Amish country and see the hand finished quilts and carpetry and maybe stay over a few nights in an Amish home. Thank you for this video
MANY THANKS FOR SHOWING THE SHOPS AND QUILTS FINISHED. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!
Thanks, Maria! It was awesome. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Super fun visit to the Amish quilt shops. Thanks for taking me along!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! We had a great visit and loved the area! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
What a wonderful trip Lea. I’ve always been very interested in the Amish people. We use to have a group that would come to San Diego with truckloads of genuine Amish quilts, furniture and many other items. I broke down and purchased a quilt and a beautifully simple bookcase. All the quilts had a 3x5 card attached to them telling a little about the maker. Maybe someday they’ll be back. Love your fabric selections. Can’t wait to see what you’ll be creating with them. ❤
These fabrics will become something wonderful, Chris! I'm anxious to get started. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Your choices are amazing! Just beautiful I wish I had a quilt store near me! I wish you had shared some of the quilt prices with us. I mean all that handwork.
Yes, local quilt stores are such fun to visit, Karen. We had one open up about 2 years ago and it's great to have them so close. As far as prices, most of the bed size quilts ran from $875 to $1K. That price was much the same at all the shops. There's a lot of handwork and is often done by a group of women working together. The quilts are awesome to look at. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I lived 40 mins from Lancaster county PA. I bought many fabrics there.
When go back to visit family as we now live in Florida I stock up on all my favorite shop. One is the Old Country Store and Zooks
Thanks for sharing, Janice!! There are lots of shops to keep visiting quilters very busy! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Your batik choices are gorgeous.
Glad you like them! There were so many beautiful batiks to choose from it was a hard not to come home with all of them! Thanks for following along. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
A few years ago I stopped by this patchwork shop on a patchwork and quilt tour in Lancaster countie. It was great. Here in Germany, where I live, there are very few patchwork shops and the fabrics are very expensive (from €18.90 to €25 per meter). I just made a quilt out of leftover fabrics I bought there last week.
Oh wow, that is expensive, Stephie! Glad you have a stash on hand to quilt with. Nice to have your following along! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Thank you 🥹
You’re welcome, Becky! 😊 Glad you enjoy it. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Nice haul. Love the bunny FQ
Me too, Lisa!! That was the first one I chose. The blue background caught my attention and the print is adorable. So many fun fabrics to start a quilt with! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
So inspiring! Ty!
Thanks for watching, Jacqueline! It was a wonderful visit. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Thank you for sharing! I would love to visit there one day.
I hope you get the chance, Vera! We had a great time and everyone was wonderful. I'd love to return someday. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
You bought so many beautiful fabrics! I live in TX and we went to Lancaster a few years ago. It is such a lovely area. We went to Bird-in-Hand for shopping and we went to a family homestead that sold handmade items. It was such an enjoyable trip. And I spent way too much money. Thanks for sharing!
Oh wow, sounds like you had a great time, Vicky! I noticed that $$ was way to easy to spend, but I sure am happy with my new fabrics! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
'We' had fun with fabric today! Thank you for sharing! (I washed down furniture in school😂)
Love that, Sandra! Does that mean that your summer has now begun? Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
We just got back from Lancaster on Friday. I went to Bird in Hand. Loved it. Went to Zook’s, Log Cabin Quilt shop, Mooks and several other quilt shops. I had a blast. Wish I could have met you in one of these shops.
Oh my gosh, Linda, we were there at the same time! We stayed at the inn right next door to Bird in Hand. Ironically the inn was picked by my cousin and he had no idea there was a quilt shop next door. You know I was excited when we drove in and I was the shop right there!! It's a beautiful area and an enjoyable place to visit. Sorry we missed each other! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
@@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise You purchased some beautiful fabrics. I like to buy minky/cuddle to use for my backings. I found some Shannon Fabrics at Bird in Hand and they also had a brand called Mook’s. I asked the clerk about it and that’s when she told me about Mook’s retail quilt store 5 minutes from Bird in Hand. They had really good prices. $4.99 a yard for there cuddle and I found some Christmas panels for $3.99 plus, 10% off. My family made such fun of me because I purchased so much cuddle. I think we’re planning another trip in October so we’ll see what happens. Maybe next time we’ll get to meet. Such a fun place to be. Hope you enjoyed staying close by.
So much fun!
It was so much fun, Mary! I already want to make another visit. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I love batiks so I would have been right there with you.
It was a wonderful visit! Thanks for watching. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Wow! Lots of beautiful fabrics🤗
It was amazing, Elizabeth! There were lots of new fabrics I'd not seen before so you know I was having fun! Shopping even offered a bit of exercise after all the fabulous food we ate. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I know this video is a year old, but can you provide the names of the two Amish shops you visited? Got the Bird-in-Hand one, but would like to visit the others as well when we head that way next month. Thank you so much. :-)
Isn't that row-by-row type fabric an ikat? I prefer the creamy backgrounds as well. But I lean towards the warmer earth tone batik fabrics. Looks like you had a wonderful trip. Thank you for sharing.
It was wonderful, Katielin! Not sure about the ikat as I'm not very familiar with it, but I love the fabric. Anxious to get started quilting with my new fabrics! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
Thank you for sharing those quilts and your fabric! How much fabric do you buy when you shop for fabric you like?
Glad you enjoyed my video! My fabric purchases vary depending on what I find. When I'm away from home I choose fabrics I've not seen near home. Low volume and batiks are my go-tos but I look for other interesting fabrics, too. Sometimes just I'll get a couple yards, but this time I couldn't resist the $10/yd price and bought about 15 yards. I'm also very conscience about using what I buy and don't let lots of unused fabric pile up. With all the quilts I make, I do go through quite a bit of fabric. I've never done the math, but there are many yards getting used every month! There's definitely some serious quilting ahead of me now! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I wish so how - we could order fabric from their shops - Does anybody know if possible -
I certainly don't know of any of the shops in the area offer online sales, Beverly. It's great to have you following along! Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
need to know exact location
Here's the address, Judy - 3137 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird in Hand, PA 17505. They do have a website but don't sell online. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I live by those people ! Yuk! It’s not fun.
The quilt shops in the area were fun to visit! Thanks for watching & Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
