- Hi guys! My name is Rick and I wanted to leave my personal review of the Igloo IMX 24 qt cooler. I tried my best to capture all the highlights of the ice test I did , test set up, conditions , results and features of the cooler. Worth mentioning... I did prechill the cooler for 24 hours , replaced the ice with new fresh ice (a little less than 20lbs), and put two pre chilled soda cans in it. Then over the next couple of days I monitored the ice inside the cooler while measuring the inside and outside temperatures. Cooler was put in my truck bed the entire time and had direct sunlight. I opened the cooler 3-4 times a day and left the lid open for 5-10 seconds each time.
I may have left a few things out but I’m hoping the link below helps fill in the gaps. There are a lot of products out there and everyone needs to find out which one is best suited for you. I hope that this information may help you identify another good candidate.

Hope it helps! If you have any comments or questions let me know! I’ll do my best to help. This is my first CZcams video so go easy on me!

Great review, real thorough
Just got this one today for fathers day...based on your review it looks like it might be a keeper.
Paul Goldsmith - thanks for letting me know. Hope it works out for ya! Happy Fathers Day!
Great presentation, pretty much covered everything that I wanted to hear.
Wish more people did a real world review like this one.
Thank you!
I’m in the market for a cooler and this helped me. I was considering a yeti roadie 20. I can afford the name brand but I always check market. Companies will have you pay more for a name. The Walmart Ozark version was ok. I hated it didn’t have a drain spout. When I came across the igloo imx, I was impressed with design. When you told me it came with basket and held ice for 4 and a half days. I was like, we have a winner. Thank you sir. Same performance as top brand and with a basket. Academy sports here I come!!!!!
Roscoe Wallace that made my day! I’m very glad it helped your cooler decision. I’ve been 100% pleased with my purchase. Still going strong! Yeah some of those name brands just aren’t worth it anymore for me. Igloo knocked it out of the park with this one. In my opinion.
Thanks. Did not realize the usable space is only about half the volume of the cooler itself.
Yeah the outside of these coolers are very misleading sometimes. It’s “great for most” trips I have found. If you use the basket to keep items try the volume is further decreased. Havent really had to keep food items dry just mostly drinks cold :)
Thanks for a great video. I bought one. I like it alot.
Happy to hear!
Solid video thank ya.
Fine 1st video!
Got mine for 79..which they are on sale now again. Love it. Forgot about the basket! Must have lost it 🤣. Good value seems very durable. 2 issues for me.
For the outer dimensions the interior space seems small. Granted this is my first cooler of this style.
Weight could be less.
Without that space then you’ll have to sacrifice the insulation
@Clay Pylant $150 plus tax now
Good job
Thank you!
Just got one from work as a gift. Just seems overly bulky for not holding as much as you would think for the size of it.
Im sold... thank you !
Of course! Glad I could help.
@@ricky.7886 yes I purchased one today. Again thank You for a great review video! Very helpful
Good video
QuakA Oats Thank you!
Not rotomolded imx stands for Injection molded. I bought the imx 70 tonight for 249.99 and the 24 for 99.99. I had to pass on the yeti.
Another question for you... are you able to comfortably carry the cooler packed with drinks and ice? I know that varies from person to person but curious about that in general.
Paul Carlin Due to the handle design and the more narrow width of the cooler I feel like I can handle it better. The handle itself has a grip throughout the entire bar. Not just a small part like other brands. Especially since I have broader shoulders I feel it’s easier when loaded. As always though, depending on how much ice and stuff you want to put in there and how far you have to walk may change your review quickly haha. In general though , it worked better for me because of the above reasons. Some of the other coolers were wider and so when I would walk it would always hit the side of my leg. Not fun. Hope it helps!
Great review. Thanks! I was thinking about the BMX25. Do you know what the main differences are?
I am very sorry for not replying. I hope you found the answer to your question. A quick search basically says the BMX is going to be a larger capacity (more cans), slightly cheaper price point, and probably less ice life? IMX seems greater ice retention specs, slight higher price point and seal on top to lock in the cold. IMX was a better fit fit me
Would you mind giving me the outside dimensions of this cooler? Igloo's website sates 24.4x16x16 but that doesn't seem right to me because that would make it just about the same size as my Yeti 45.
jonnyt16 - Those dimensions look about right. I measured with the handle folded down onto the cooler. It’s not small but I have been very happy with it so far
Hi Rick, Thank you for the video. Im wondering what the bottom dimensions of the cooler are. We have a delivery bicycle that we use at the youth center I work at and we need a sturdy cooler that will fit inside the rear basket.
The rear basket dimensions are 18.5" long by 12.5" wide and 8" deep.
What are the dimensions of the bottom of the cooler? Looks like the top is quite a bit wider. Thanks!
Drew99GT - 18.75” wide x 12.5” deep . The cooler is tapered and gets wider as you go further ( higher on cooler). Hope it helps and sorry for the delay in response.
Hey great video. Random question, how sturdy is the lid in terms of standing on it? Does it bow in or feel like it has a lot of play? My wife and I go camping a lot and I have a roof basket on my bed cap that we pack a lot of our gear on and instead of getting a step stool to reach it we usually stand on our cooler and also use it as a seat.
Good question! I really have not used it as a step stool before. As a seat yes absolutely! And you can get by with it I think. In regards to the first (step stool case) , there is recessed cup holder openings so you can put drinks when the lid is closed. If you do use it as a stool Id be careful. I can see that being tricky if you forgot that was there.
The cooler is still going strong! No quality issues what do ever. Hope it helped. Try to see the part of the video when I close the lid so you can see the top surface of the cooler.
Thank you for the info. I’m glad it’s still doing good. This isn’t a make or break reason for me and I still think I’m going to get one. I was just curious. Thanks again for the fast reply!
@@jacobgonzalez7003 no problem! I’d try to buy it before summer. I was able to get 20% federal holiday sale. Got it at $79.99 and couldn’t be happier with that price point. Happy hunting!
They sell a foot thing that goes on your car frame where door latches and it allows you to stand up so you can get the gear off the roof. I have one I put it in my door for storage works great.
Did you happen to do a leak test? If it’s rocking around in the back of a side by side is it gonna leak water
Kamron Gatlin should be Able to give you an answer soon.
Finally did the water leak test. So I moved the cooler (with mix of ice and water about 75-85% full) back and forth pretty hard. Definitely more than anything you would see in a rocky boat. No water leaked out the front (towards the latches and bottle opener) . I did notice that when I shook it back towards the hinge. I did see a little after come out. Looking more in depth, I noticed that the cooler seal goes 99% around with this really small narrow opening. I believe the water is coming out of there. I haven’t had time to investigate or fix but I would say even A little drop of RTV or even silicone would probably close this small gap.
In general though, I don’t think anything I saw would make this a deal breaker. Great cooler and value IMO. No regrets.
Thanks for the video, it felt "real" aka not sponsored. (thanks for that) question is the handle removable? Also, it's been a bit how is it holding up?
There are fasteners that I can see but i have never attempted to try to remove it. Holding up pretty well! No complaints really. Other than I have too many coolers lol
I imagine it did NOT leak, correct? Specifically, from the plug. I will be keeping this in my room for ice.
Robert Jr I have not had any water leaks from the Cooler plug. Wether In normal use or when I performed the water leak check I commented about in one of the other comments.
@@ricky.7886 Yes, I saw that...Thank You. I made the purchase today.
I'm looking towards this cooler for ATV riding but don't know if I could strap this down properly.
JustMeDalton I mean a ratchet strap across or side ways should be pretty easy to do if you have that option on the back of your ATV. The feet do have grip so maybe that might help if you have tracks. Maybe bungee cord could work. Just not sure how hardcore you could go. If you google the images of the cooler you will see the geometry on the lid. Seems like you have enough real estate to get creative with.
You could also probably take advantage of wrapping a strap around the handle and tie it down. Doubt it would go anywhere. You got options lol
Thanks for the options I think I might go with the bungee cords I just have to see the length and width of the cooler..bungee cords would be simple to do.
Website says it can fit 35 cans. I can't seem to fit that much. What has been your experience?
No way you can get 35 cans. At least not 12oz ones. I think the most I ever took in it was like 24 cans with little ice. It’s been a while and I only did it once. Since the top (lid) does protrude upward. They probably stuffed some more in there. Maybe that’s how they got up to 35.
Does it come with the basket? Or was it part of a sale/promotion. Thanks
Bravo mine came with the basket . No additional charge .
You don't have to purchase "The food basket" separately with yeti. And the handle on the Yeti 20 is identical to the one on your cooler. 🤷♂️
Thanks for the clarification on the basket! Regarding the handle though, there are some differences between the two coolers. I found that the Igloo handle had grip material throughout the entire handle and was larger in diameter. For me, it was easier to carry with a full ice chest. The coolers like the Yeti Rodie 20, actually just have the grip handle in the center. On top of my head, it is a bit smaller and walking with the cooler for longer distances was not as good for me.
It’s all preference and what you want really. Both coolers do the job but they are two different price points and customer buy philosophy/ preferences.
1. Yeti no longer makes the 20, as they discontinued it in mid 2020. They now make the 24 which does not include a drain and doesn't come with a basket.
2. They use a strap now and not the metal handle.
Retail price 12/2022 $149.
Life just gets more and more expensive doesn’t it?
I did a quick google search and Ace hardware has it for $119.99 on sale if you join their Ace Rewards points program. Might be worth a look!
How do you feel about your cooler a year later? This just might be the one I pull the trigger on.
Paul Carlin I still have it and don’t regret ever buying it. Well worth the money and it has never let me down in terms of performance. I think for the price it’s a good item to consider if your in the cooler market.
I would also say that try to wait till they go on sale . I got mine near a holiday at $79.99 with free shipping. I think paying retail eehhh not bad either but it’s your call. Just my .02
How does this hold ice compared to the RTIC 20? Thank you!
That’s a great question. I don’t own a RTIC 20 and couldn’t tell you much about ice retention. I would recommend seeing an RTIC 20 video on you tube and comparing to the data I gave. Just keep in mind that prechilling the cooler, the amount of ice in cooler , type of ice , wether you use ice packs, where you store your cooler, and how often you open the lid all affect ice retention. I will also say there’s what the manufacturer rates and what reality is.
@@ricky.7886 .thank you!
These coolers never have enough room in them IMHO
Have you been satisfied with the cooler?
This-N-That Bluegrass 100%. I liked it at $99 but since I got it at 79.99 on sale I loved it even more haha. Good quality. So far no issues. For the price it’s hard to beat.
I just picked up one of these, what size is that Engel ice pack? I need to pick one that fits
Christopher Tong should be the Engel 20 medium size
Medium: 9.375" x 7.125" x 1.375"
Rick Y. Were you able to fit 2 on the bottom?
Christopher Tong I have never put them on the bottom but I’m sure if one fits , two stacked on top of each other should fit. I usually put the ice pack on top of ice.
great video man! do you know if it is made in USA?
Julio Napoles hey thanks man! I believe the box had said “Made In China”
China
Does it leak from the top lid?
For the most part no. Because there is a seal between the lid and the top of the body of the cooler. I will point out that when you try to shake the cooler (almost violently) back and forth, I did see a small amount of water come out. Again, it’s pretty darn hard that I shook it . I attribute it to a small gap (I assume during installation of it at factory) that is open in the seal. Not a big deal IMO. Remember check igloo promotions for Memorial Day sale!
I got mine already. Thanks for the feedback. Great video 💯
Great looking content. Presume you did a bunch of your very own coding.
Mark Jenkins thanks buddy! No coding necessary. The Engel thermometer kept the min and max temperatures. I’m assuming your talking about that?
