I basically got married because of this book. My wife, who I had been dating for just a few months at the time while at college, gave me this book before we headed home for the summer, saying she loved it and thought I would too. Well, I got about a quarter of the way through and decided I wasn't going to let her get away. I pretty much finished the book and then proposed. Still married, 28 years later. Great review and great channel, man. Cheers!

I am 100 pages in already after your incredible review. This book is more grimdark than an Abercrombie Fantasy novel and as you said, scarier then Sai King could imagine. I love your videos and thanks for this informative and passionate review, you have me hooked on this read and I can wait to dive into the rest of Mr Follet.

I absolutely love this book. Like many other readers, I was very hesitant and sceptical in the beginning and wasn't sure it would be my cup of tea, but man I was wrong. There were days when I was reading for 12 hours a day. There were scenes where I would jump from my scene and clap with tears of joy. Man. I'll be reading this book every year probably for the rest of my life.

I'm reading this in the Spanish version and greatly enjoying it. Follet's prose is not overly descriptive and verbose, so even though I am still not fluent in Spanish I can still grasp the meaning of paragraphs that rely on very specific vocabulary, even if I can't decipher the exact details. While I could often guess a page in advance, or a couple of paragraphs, what surprise Follet was building up to several times, there were also some that were completely unexpected. Yes, it is very moving and both terrible misfortunes and acts of compassion hit home with real force.

I love how you articulate your thoughts, Mr Brian. Even if the review is of a book I have not read or did not like, just hearing your thoughts on it is very engaging, for lack of a better term.
But THE PILLARS OF THE EARTH and the Kingsbridge series as whole is top tier and will always be a favourite of mine.
    Thanks for the awesome review!

Gripping book. Loved it. The dark scenes were hard to go through, which is obviously a success, but I'm glad I made it through. One of the best books I've read.

***SPOILER WARNING***** Yeah man I started reading this based on one of your other videos. I got through the first 100 pages or so... and I stopped. Not because I didn't like it. But I have 50+ books on my to-read list and I couldn't commit to this one because of the length until I read a few others first. Plus, when they are starving and his wife dies in childbirth, I decided I wasn't in the right place to take on this book. I'm going to read it again, sometime. Especially now that you got me excited about it again.

  • @strangementalitypaperYT

Everyone but me seems to love this book. I found it plotless and ambling. There just wasn't enough of a strong central conflict for me.
