The song was so moving at the end of episode 3 of "The Bear" that I came to CZcams to look for the song. I love R.E.M. -- I can't believe that I've never heard this song before. Amazing.
What would be R.E.M.s best album in your opinion? I want to listen to them. I love this song but when i heard some songs of Murmurs it was not at all like this song.
@@arunkorahmoses6539 REM is legendary. But if you want to listen something like this, this song is from Collapse Into Now, last REM album. My favorite album, for personal reasons, is Reveal. Give it a go to Out of Time, Green or Up too
@@arunkorahmoses6539 There was 30 years between Murmur and this song. 30 years of evolution and experimentation, and probably the longest series of genuinely good albums in the history or rock/pop.
Its so heartwarming to see that im not the only one here because of 'The Bear'. Such a soothing song and a touching finish to episode 3. The whole soundtrack to the show was amazing, I was happy to hear John Mayer in there too
My father died today & we weren't close. I lost him years ago & my children don't know him. My ex-wife sent this song to me & altho I've heard it before, I'm not sure exactly what it's supposed to mean in this case...but I certainly appreciate her thinking of me today. I'm not mad...I'm not sad...there's no love...there's no hate...I just Hope he finds the peace on the other side that he never found here. There are no other feelings involved, sadly. RIP & thank you Sarah
I can’t stand R.E.M. Until my buddy turned me on to ‘The Bear’. This song caught my ear. Fuuuucccckkkkkk it’s unbelievable. Love it when my old ideas get destroyed.
I heard REM unincessantly during my college years. Somehow I felt they were representing my naivety which impacted my life in the following decade, delaying decisions, not making decisions. I could not stand some songs somehow. Maybe because of that. Now I seem to have come to peace with myself. Maybe age. Maybe just being tired of fighting and criticising myself the whole time. I am redescovering REM and I listen to them differently, yet appreciating them fully.
I remember listening to this song 12 years ago, on a train, leaving my home city for good. It perfectly captured the bittersweet emotions of that moment and it always touches some nerve deep inside my heart. Just beautiful.
LYRICS The kids have a new take A new take on faith Pick up the pieces Get carried away I came home to a city half-erased I came home to face What we faced This place needs me here to start This place is the beat of my heart Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) The storm didn't kill me The government changed Hear the answer and call, hear this song re-arranged Hear the trees, the ghosts and the buildings sing With the wisdom to reconcile this thing It's sweet And it's sad And it's true How it doesn't look bitter on you Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Mother and father I stand beside you The good of this world might help see me through This place needs me here to start This place is the beat of my heart Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart) Oh my heart Oh my heart (Oh my heart)
God, I can't believe R.E.M. are over... it would have been much easier had they not kept writing songs as beautiful and as moving as this one up to the very end. Thank you for everything, guys, thank you!
In response to the announcement above of a new R.E.M. compilation - who needs one? The only worthwhile R.E.M. compilation contains every single song they ever recorded - which is precisely what I've got on my playlist. I never feel the slightest urge to skip a song ...
I know what this song is actually about. But for me it’s a song about how vulnerable we really are. It’s something I always wanted to cry out… Oh my heart… it's so special, it's so true.
I don't know why, but this song makes me think of a soldier coming home from a tour of duty on the battlefront, and having to deal with all of the emotions and changes that seeing war can bring. I thought maybe the lyrics were about him or her having deal with the struggles of fitting back in after returning to the world.
you might enjoy "amethyst " by Low : a feeling of being alone in your mind and that no one understands ps beautiful song and BTW it does not apply to me folks (lol)
I always thought this song was about a veteran coming home after Desert storm or Afghanistan, and seeing how his home city like Chicago or Detroit have changed for the worse, and the Government turning their back on him and his town, Never knew it was about New Orleans recovering from Hurricane Katrina and is a sequeal to Houston from Accelerate. Just goes to show that songs can have different meanings to different people.
We left the flat in Dublin to go see REM. Jumped in a cab. Lost both tickets. Had a mental screaming blame game thing at the gate. Security guy freaked out let us in. Best concert ever.
Wenn ich das Lied höre, muss ich immer daran denken, wie meine Familie und ich im Urlaub durch Norditalien gefahren sind uns das Lied rauf und runter gehört haben.
When I first heard Michael's voice on this one I thought it was Mike Scott from the Waterboys. Great song. My daughter goes to UGA and I like the Chapel Bell commercial with this song, too.
The absolutely beautiful 'marriage' of this song and this video is just too beautiful not to say something nice about it and these two young folks who reflect so much of what we have all experienced in our own lives at one time or another. My heart sings and celebrates to the high heavens above. 🥰
It's about New Orleans after Katrina. Sequel to "Houston." "The storm didn't kill me/the government changed." Wish the video made it more obvious though. THANKS REM--you nailed it.
This is one of the best songs they ever made!! it's just like the stuff from the 90's .. I'm going to miss them!! I had the best time in 92 when I got to see you in a personal venue at the 40 watt club in Athens Ga.!!
Absolutely perfect use of this song to close ep. 3 of 'The Bear'
Seriously
Here because of 'The Bear'
I discovered this song because of The Bear. Amazing show. I loved it very much. Last Train Home by John Mayer was also very good in the show.
Here because of “The Bear” too. Glad to have company.

Likewise, a beautiful but sad song.
Same same
same here !
Can we all just agree R.E.M. is one of the best American bands of the last 30 years?
Heard this in the bear and almost instantly knew it had to be rem

"It's sweet, and it's sad, and it's true", just like every good REM song.

Until my buddy turned me on to ‘The Bear’. This song caught my ear. Fuuuucccckkkkkk it’s unbelievable. Love it when my old ideas get destroyed.
One of the most underrated REM songs. Such a great track with a deep meaning.

They always pulled the rabbit out of the hat. Wonderful.

The kids have a new take
A new take on faith
Pick up the pieces
Get carried away
I came home to a city half-erased
I came home to face
What we faced
This place needs me here to start
This place is the beat of my heart
Oh my heart

The government changed
Hear the answer and call, hear this song re-arranged
Hear the trees, the ghosts and the buildings sing
With the wisdom to reconcile this thing
It's sweet
And it's sad
And it's true
How it doesn't look bitter on you
Oh my heart
Oh my heart
(Oh my heart)
Oh my heart
Oh my heart

Mother and father
I stand beside you
The good of this world might help see me through
This place needs me here to start
This place is the beat of my heart

15 outstanding albums, 30+ years of excellence; cannot believe it has been almost a dozen years.....
Oh my heart, hurts so good when Michael sings.
the Bear put lots of us here! lol
True
He said this song was a meditation on New Orleans after Katrina. Such an exquisite tribute.
Perfeita para o momento na série The Bear. Maravilhosa!!!
God, I can't believe R.E.M. are over... it would have been much easier had they not kept writing songs as beautiful and as moving as this one up to the very end.
Thank you for everything, guys, thank you!
R.E.M. is the beat of my heart!
The bear brought me here anyone else
I am so in LOVE with R.E.M. I don't even know which of the song is my favorite, would play every song and have the same good feeling.
I have been in love with them since 1983...
So applicable to what our world is going through right now with the Covid-19 pandemic. Such an underrated song!❤️
Yes. Sept 2020.. I rember Katrina..this is a great song...forward to now ? I totally agree

What a song and couldn’t agree more re The Bear
I agree: it's probably their best song ever. It's easily my favorite song of theirs these days.
Oh my heart, oh my heart 2019!

2021
Who’s here after Episode 3 of The Bear?

This is the best song from their last album in my opinion. Love how it kind of has an Irish backing sound feel to it in parts
That's interesting. I heard an American South bent in it but you could absolutely be right about the Irish aspect too.
I get that Irish sound too! I'm half-Irish and this song makes me feel so at home
Eu amo R.E.M., não me canso de ouvir. Pena que não tocam mais e também não produzem. Mas o que deixaram de boas músicas é de muita valia.
The Bear 💪
REM IIS THE BEST BAND OF THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!
haunting.beautiful.pure.
damn i miss you guys :(
+Daren Manville (stooper78) Thank you. I was going to write exactly the same.
I know what this song is actually about. But for me it’s a song about how vulnerable we really are. It’s something I always wanted to cry out… Oh my heart… it's so special, it's so true.
+LaVolpe01 It was written about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
I don't know why, but this song makes me think of a soldier coming home from a tour of duty on the battlefront, and having to deal with all of the emotions and changes that seeing war can bring. The Bear got me loving this song
The Bear brought me here, but I ain't even trippin
It did but I am huge REM fan and Bama fan, but lived in NE GA for years and Athens has produced in my mind the best singer/ songwriters of our time.

This is a beautiful song! Wording couldn’t be anymore perfect🤟🏼👊
This is like gasping sweet air after nearly drowning in a dead lake of endless sound-a-like radio and TV music.
*Beautiful.*
R.E.M.: where are you going? this was your BEST album since 1993.. i'd say you were ascending, not fading away....
