The thing is that for people who arent 'faking' mental illness to be unique or quirky they dont hear the 'no one understands me'. Instead from this music these people hear that they are not alone, people understand them and there is strength in that. Admitting that you dont understand the lyrics, dont like his voice and the music while also not having listened to anything else but vessel and blurryface (and posting this right before a new album) is a bold choice haha, I applaud it. I really like your point on why people, especially teenagers have such an urge to be unique, there is psychology behind that. I also understand that, especially in vessel, lyrics of twenty one pilots can be quite cringe. But cringe doesnt make it any less true for some people and what is actually cringe? I dont think just saying lyrics are cringe (which is societally constructed) without any deeper criticism is very valid. I do respect that you dont like the music and im actually glad you dont understand the music. This just was a bit of a superficial review of twenty one pilots. You dont have to like them and this is probably because you relate them to your cringe teenage fase and own experience but idk, i just feel like there is more to say. No hate btw, just some thoughts i had and i get your opinion (especially around music community cuz wtf haha).
Extremely valid, this is the exact other side of the argument I couldn’t cover or find words for so thank you for putting it here. I knew when I made this people would have this opinion and I’m glad I made it clear I wasn’t trying to attack this side more just explain my perspective. I’m also glad my first comment like this is from someone like yourself who is willing to explain and see my side through too so thank you for that. :)
idk tyler joseph in 2020 really said “f you” to his BIPOC fans when they begged him to speak up. the influence is there, but the authenticity left after he did that.
I have a 20 hour long dubstep playlist from 2015 that I will now listen to in its entirety… ALSO THIS VIDEO RULES!!! I think I would really enjoy a tier list video from you, I enjoy how bold you are with your takes and I think it would suit that format really well, and would also help organize your thoughts better. Also ya… I totally thought my music was way better than everyone else’s 😭
That's so funny, was the original idea but it would've added a ton of time and editing to the vid, like it's literally 91 songs I'd have to find pictures for and organize into a tier list, ideally with animations. When I thought abt it I was like bro is it really worth it lmao I'm sure they know how bad I feel about these songs. Thank you tho matt :))
