In the meantime, I gave a try to paint a landscape oil pastel piece on Pastelmat, weird that this was the first time since 2022 Nov, when I switched over to oil pastels from soft pastels. Anyhow, you were totally right, oil pastels, especially Sennelier, glides so smoothly and effortlessly on Pastelmat, that I was shocked by the fantastick experience, how different is to paint on Pastelmat. I painted on Pastelmat before with soft pastel and pastel pencils, but I didn't find it anything interesting (vs black plakatkarton), but oil pastel on Pastelmat, that is a huge difference. Actually, I am so thankful that your videos gave inspiration to give it a try. So, I did this landscape painting on April 26 and I simply sprayed it gently with hairspray three times. And today, May 9, I can feel it non-tacky and dry enough to handle it easily. Still, I think the best way is to varnish it as you demonstrated in one of your recent videos. Thank you, thank you again and again! ♥

So pretty! Also What is that tool you use to blend that has a white brush tip-and do you use any liquid to help blend?

It’s a silicone nail sculpture tool! I use that and my gloved hands to smooth and blend, no liquid or any other medium. Thank you for liking this video!

Pastelmat seems to be your favorite "paper" for your portrait oil pastel works. Lena Rivo, she is an excellent gouache painter and recently spent a lot of time on oil pastels, she says that Pastelmat is not ideal for oil pastel since it doesn't absorb the oil ingrediant at all. What do you think? I am very much interested in your practical experience.

I switched to Pastelmat earlier this year. I find that colours become blotchy on watercolour paper after a day or two (example: czcams.com/video/xaRnQzw5Mhc/video.htmlsi=PzLedu9VHQaaHlSR) and looks ugly on camera, which is a shame as I have two years of oil pastel portraits all on watercolor paper. It's true with Pastelmat the oil won't dry out completely, but the smoothness of the painting also stays. Hope this helps!

Oil pastels are nice but if i make 10 pieces of art i will have 1/2 from my colours..or leass
How you guys paint with them and afford it?
I saw that they go so so fast...

High pigment artist grade oil pastels generally last much much longer. I use cheaper brands on background. It also depends on the types of paper, for example, Pastelmat chew through the pastel sticks faster than watercolour paper.
