3 Tips You MUST Know To Improve Your Oil Pastel Paintings

In this video I want to talk about three tips that when you follow them you can easily improve the quality of your artwork, even if you don't have expensive oil pastels. These are simple exercises that can enhance the quality of your paintings.

This video inspired me to try to learn to use the Pentel oil pastels I recently abandoned because I thought they were bad quality :') me, being an unlearned beginner, expected all oil pastels to be soft by default -- but apparently there's harder oil pastels too (Pentel being one of them) and they require a different technique!! I thought it's impossible to create smooth-looking colors and blending with such pastels, but the tips you gave in this video set me on a different path of learning ahaha~
Your art is beautiful!! If it's possible to make such art with Pentels, with enough experience and skill, I certainly feel motivated to learn!

I understand exactly what you mean, I was just like that thinking maybe oil pastels are not the best for me, but being consistent and using different techniques is the right way if you're working with any pastels.
The pastels you're working with, or any other material, shouldn't stop you from making art. You just have to figure out how to be creative and achieve your goals with whatever you have.

Just wanted to drop in again to say that I'm finishing my first Pentel oil pastel drawing, and the result is better than I thought it could be for a first! Keeping in mind my general inexperience with oil pastels (let alone these harder oil pastels like Pentel) and "skill issues", I kept in mind your advice from this video and it helped me navigate this new medium with more ease and less insecurity as a newbie! Nice to meet you. You are very skillful with oil pastels. I hope to give a try with the Sennelier that I recently got in sale. They are very creamy so they are better for largest surfaces than for details. For details better an harder quality.

Sennelier is a little expensive here but I do have plans to buy them, I'm trying to gain more experience in oil pastels and then buy sennelier or gallery pastels.

I am in France, so I can access easily to french brands sales. When young I did a study which rendered as well as a copy of a still life of Matisse , the one which is called " still life with oranges" , I did it with Sennelier pastels.
Thats so nice, and yes gallery pastels have a good quality too.
I also painted some copys of matisse's artwork in university and they are good for learning.🤗💓
