Since you are at AF1 test ride that Caponord they have. I've been considering it but I'm just scared of buying something that has been discontinued.
I’m happy to see an increasing interest in Moto Guzzi abroad, especially in the US. I’m italian, born and raised in Italy, and I’ve been a Guzzista since my early motorcycling days thanks to both my grandfathers. I have a V85TT for normal riding and longer trips, and a old Le Mans III for shorter but more enticing rides. I won’t ever sell the Le Mans, and I really enjoy how comfortable and (relatively) agile the V85TT is, but everytime I see a Griso I would really love to have more space (and deeper pockets!) for a third Guzzi. Anyway here in Italy we ofter refer to the Griso as a “roadster”, which I think it’s something in between of a naked bike and a cruiser.
I have the same year 2007 but the 850cc version. It lacks the oil cooler and shows that beautiful Guzzi big block. I realize many doesn’t understand 850 and big block in the same sentence. Sitting on this long wheelbase substantial bike negotiating a twisty road, actually riding the bike, braking, accelerating, changing gears - you’d start to understand. Guzzis are an experience. Griso’s are a great experience. Ride safe mates.
The first generation caught my eye, and the second generation won my heart. Such a stunning outside the box price of motorcycle art.
The Griso 1100 simply delivers in the "smiles per miles"-department! And the old pushrod-engine is far more reliable than the newer 1200 4v with its ohc cams. Surprisingly the 1100 NEEDS revs and feels the best between 4-7000 rpm - and even rewards you with better economy compared to lugging it.The fully adjustable suspension and the competent brakes turn this sport-tractor into a bike that has the potential to surprise on the road despite only having 88 HP at 250 kg.
I've owned a Griso since 2006 and over 190,000km so far. What a fab bike. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Griso has a really long wheelbase, which gives it that feel you experienced in the turns. On the first ride, it doesn't feel like a curve eater. But.... Once you get to know the bike, once you learn it, you will find it is incredibly capable in the turns and the mid-range torque allows you to adjust your line with a twist of the grip.
I've got a feeling you're going to be in trouble when you ride the 8 valve. It packs an additional 25 horsepower and has a less "friendly" personality. It's like the gen 1 on steroids and I wouldn't be surprised if it find its way into your garage.
I've had both motors and the 8v is stacks better especially with a Beetle remap.
@@jiltedjohn9294 I currently own a 2007 4 Valve Griso. I love the bike. I can't say that the 90hp isn't lots of fun, but I know I would love it even more with more power.
Agree with your comments on the 8v which i have since 2009 and use only for short rides (my second bike)
Guzzi vtwin pointed the wrong way? Heresy!
I have a 2007 Griso I just bought this spring. I love it, and it gets a ton of attention wherever I take it, where no one has ever looked twice at any other bike I’ve ever had. A couple things I noticed in the video. The reliability issues are in the early 1200 models, with the cylinder head tappets. Also just to note about that bike you were riding, it’s got an aftermarket seat and lowering pegs on it. The stock set up has a tight bend at your knee which was a little uncomfortable for me when I first got it, but adding a Corbin seat raised the seat just enough to relieve the pressure, and it was 100% better for me. Can’t wait to see part 2. This was a very accurate assessment of the bike in my opinion. Well done.
Guzzi's engine is the wrong way around?
Funny thing is that despite the Mandello being first ever Guzzi with liquid cooling. They've never have had problems with second cylinder over heating 🤔
Unlimited soup, salad, and GUZZI!
Where my breadsticks?!
@@Felix_A_ I'll be your breadstick
So glad you got to try the Griso Spite! I am so excited for the upcoming 1200 video!
The Griso takes it's name from a character in an 1842 Italian novel: The Betrothed (Italian: I promessi sposi) "Griso is one of Don Rodrigo's henchmen, a silent and treacherous man." (think Burley and Brutal) I've had mine for about 8 years and 40,000 miles now. It's comfortable and I don't think I could give it up because it does everything I want so well. A utilitarian bike with aluminum panniers. Only my advancing age will force me to sell. For looks and raw comfort I have a V11 Lemans Rosso Corsa.
Guzzi's are a strange and wonderful experience or sometimes not in a non techie way. It is of it's own .
I have a V7 special and love it. I’m looking into a v100 or griso.
I also own a V7 111 and would like to try the 100
@@flyingfish173 love it! Yeah I have the V7 II special in blue and white
@@flyingfish173 the v100 is so cool. I love the new Aviation version
Thanks for covering the Griso! I love my 07'! The Griso slots perfectly between my Tuono and my R1150RT. Mine came with LSR handlebars, so the reach to the bars is even more exaggerated for me. Mine has a Mistral muffler, the motor sounds great uncorked! The only issue I have had with mine is leaking valve cover gaskets, a forty-dollar fix. The best part about a Gen 1 is I only paid $4500 for a near-perfect specimen! Looking forward to the Gen 2 video, I have yet to see one in person. Keep up the good work!
I'm really happy to see someone ride and recognize Moto Guzzi for what they are. I have 2 California 1100's and I'm a huge fan of the brand. Keep riding them and keep in mind that these are special bikes for special people...
Love the look of the guzzi looks and have always wanted to ride one! My local dealer has a 2011 Stelvio . After watching this I think it’s worth a test 😊
The Griso is a beautiful bike ... typical Moto Guzzi 😎 I love my V9 and as soon as I start her, the Guzzi shake makes me smile every time 🤩
When I was a teenager I had a short experience (as passenger) on a Le Mans 850. That ride influenced me a lot and, since then, I have owned several bikes. I love Guzzi bikes and soon I will buy the V7 Classic. Love seing the two cylinders and the absence of chain of Guzzi bikes. The Griso you tried in this video is a weird but good looking bike.
I really enjoyed this video and loved the detail of the name sake
"V-Twin is pointed the wrong way..." oh dear. AS a member of the 'one-eyed Griso Owners club' I think ye have given this one a good review. Looing forward to the Griso 8V SE review and comparision.... oh big point for ridding a Griso... relax your knees.
Great review. I have a 1976 T3 Cali and if anyone thought old BMWs were odd this is in a different league. Wind forward 40 years and I felt that the Griso and more recent Guzzis (and BMWs) had lost something. The low down grunt is replaced by more mid and top with lighter flywheels in the pursuit of more power in order to compete with the mainstream bikes. I’ve often felt that if you were to ride some of these bikes and didn’t know the make or engine layout they could be any twin. They are, of course, more than that and other idiosyncrasies give them the character we all seek. I rode a Griso a few years back and really liked it. Just not enough to buy one…….
In the previous century I owned several Moto Guzzi loop frames. They were bullet proof by the standards of the day, and were a very comfortable, and stable place to spend a day riding when ridden within their limits.
Griso's gen 2n - 1200 8V SE is chesty upgrade to this willing steed. Thanks for takin' a look!
The Griso is probably better described as a muscle bike; something with a torquey engine, a bit of sporting character while not being a sportbike or a street fighter, and a whole bunch of attitude. It was first introduced around the same time as the Yamaha MT-01 and definitely fits into a category with it, whatever one might call that category.
Ahhh, that great exhaust sound!
Thanks man! Cool bikes
That is my most favorite-est of Guzzis's and that's saying something! I have wanted a Griso ever since I saw Ewan McGregor on one in Long Way Down. And this bike has already been sold. NUTS!
it really sounds great! Love my V100.
Always loved the idea of this bike, would love a more powerful version in theory as I’ve never rode one. I think the the HD Bronx could be that
Actually there are 3 models of the Griso. There was also an 850, which not have made it to the USA market but was sold in Europe.
I’ve always liked Guzzi. The 90’s era LeMans is my spirit bike
Late seventies Le Mans mark 2 for me please!
Being in the U.K. it makes me laugh what you consider to be a twisty road! You’d have kittens if you saw the roads over here 😂 😂😂 . I had a go when theGriso came out and it struggled on the roads I ride , the suspension didn’t cope well. Interesting video
I had a black 07 plate gen 1 Griso. I loved the querky styling, and after 25 years of nearly annual changes of my bikes I thought I'd found my forever bike. I changed the ridiculous cannon sized silencer for a Mass (italian) end can, and it transformed the vocal attitude of the bike. But then, the dreaded reliability issues reared their head. Firstly with the fuel pump in the tank which has a ribbed hose that splits. This was easily repaired with new fuel hose and clamps (a positive side to the internet). But then the reliable unreliability every time I washed the bike. Admittedly I use a leaf blower to dry naked bikes as it gets the water out of the nooks & crany's, but it would appear that on a still genuinely Italian owned brand the water is driven into the electrics as much as it's driven out by the leaf blower.
Sadly we have no Motto Guzzi support near my home, so I sold the bike and bought a BMW R nine T, which I really liked, but Admittedly the Griso has a nicer sounding engine and seating position aswell as stance. In the BMW's defence it has a much more refined final drive though. You'll probably be pleased to know that I now own a Harley Breakout 114 (stage 1).
Regarding the mode button, it isn't very intuitive but it does cycle you through a bunch of menu options and if I'm right in remembering one of them is a lap timer.
Looking forward to your gen 2 review, as I was really fond of my gen 1. In a strange way, with the Mass end can it had the roar of a Harley....ish, and the road manners of a sit up muscle bike. Best of both worlds. Very characterful bike.
Nice gloves man, all the cool kids got them 😁
Thank you for your presentation. I'm from Germany and I own the 1st Generation from 2007. I love the big block with 88 horsepower. We call that kind of bikes Landstraßenmotorrad. I love my Griso and if nothing bad will happen, it will be my last bike.
Man! Spite has got to get ahold of a Buell XB12. He would love that bike!
Lovely bike with the right kind of character.
Beautiful bike … great sound.
Gorgeous bike!
The Griso is a future classic in my opinion. I'd like to see a new version from Guzzi, but I believe the Mandello is the replacement.
The rock in the twin comes from how the motor works. A characteristic I personally adore.
I owned one of these a few years ago. Fun but heavy bike. I don’t regret selling it, but I miss it
I was enjoying the review of this bike until it became clear the primary point was that it didn't meet performance expectations and all aspects of the discussion circled back around to that point. I understand wanting to ride in attack mode but not every rider makes that their primary reason to ride.
Now as you asked... yes, I really would like to see Griso comeback with Mandello engine. I bought a V7 Racer one year ago. I was undecided between Griso and Racer but finally I couldn't find used Griso with low mileage and good condition so I ended up with Racer.
Revs slow and feels like a cruiser because of a big chunky flywheel, change it with a smaller one and it will feel like a sport bike. It really is that easy
Great original design, this bike is gorgeous. I wish they would still make it with some modern electronic.
What gloves are those? I really love the way they look
I have an 04 Breva, saw a gen 2 griso a couple months back and was bout to snatch it up but sold b4 I could get to it lol
That looks like my first bike, I would buy it, by the way where did you get the shades
Yes. Bring it back!! Guzzi!!
Get some guards in between those cylinder heads in your shins, because if you ever hit some thing, you’re gonna damage the hell out of your shins. I speak from experience.
Oh no! About to upgrade to a Mandello and now Spite tempting me with the Griso🤔
I had a Breva 1100 as a company bike.. I have to admit I really loved riding it. Hated 'looking' at it. Damn good bike to be honest. The only Guzzi I had, but I have ridden a few.
Beautiful bike. Very exclusive bike
Guzzi would do so well to put the Mandello engine in a standard bike frame. I know it’s going in the new Stelvio but I’ve only heard good things about that motor. Might as well throw it in all types 🤷🏻♂️ just like the v85 motor is in the V7 just detuned a little . Which they shouldn’t
Does it feel larger than say a Triumph Street Scrambler? Or a Kawasaki Z900RS?
Would you bike another Griso? I would love the V100 Mandello but can't afford one in OZ priced at $32,000AUD Looking at 2016 Moto Guzzi Griso 1200se with 31,000kms on her. Do you think it's a worthy substitute?
I have the Guzzi Griso 8V Tenni, i hope Guzzi dont bring the Griso back so my Guzzi will become a Classic and rise in Value. i really love my Guzzi she is such a beauty
Wht a beautiful bike, what shame that they discontiniued it
Funny thing is: if any other maker would come out with something similar to the griso these days it would be called out as a sensational bike.... yet Guzzi was playing this game more or less 15 years ago, only with much less fanfare and, maybe, service network, alas (at least outside of italy)
Love them Moto Guzzis
I really like the Moto Guzzi's. They always look kinda unique.
I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying the Griso has a more stronger delivery of power than the new Mandello?
I’ve wanted a V11 Rosso corsa for years but their impossible to find in my area.
I had a Norge. Basically a Griso is a naked Norge. I Loved that bike!!!
Yes!!! More Moto Guzzi!!
Fine looking bike
Spite Spite Spite. What is up with those gloves my dude?
They are of questionable styling lol
I like the Madello...I think a non fairing version could be cool
How does it compare to the short lived Harley Davidson XR1200?
Does Spite understand the difference between "Cruiser", "Roadster", Naked Sports" bikes?
ROADSTERS are what NORMAL bikes are all about! They are meant to be the "everyman's motorcycle"! Commute, cruise, scratch or tour, they can do it all. (with the right accessories!) THAT is what the Griso is! It is NOT meant to do anything excellently, but it will do MORE than each of the other classes in their own field! ....and a good one will just put a smile on your face, as it accomplishes whatever your ride demands, whenever you ask it! (and that can change in an instant, when you discover that new road, or meet that new bunch of friends!)
The Griso is a UNIQUE solution to the roaster concept, as only the Italians can do!
Should they bring back the Griso? ....NO NEED! The Mandello is a good development/evolution that replaces what the Griso used to provide, ....and then some! The V7/9 bikes are just as unique, and are a very slight retro touch to the modern need for those roadsters!
Understand what a roadster is, and you start to understand what the entire motorcycle market is about!
I've had am 859 V7 Guzzi for a couple of years and really like it. I think if wanted more capability I'd go for a Mandello, the Griso looks great but being a short-@rse I think it would be too long and wide
Watching this eating a Factor for lunch lol
Nothing like a Guzzi!
Obscure comment of the day. Nice Chicago cutlery steak knife in your Factor commercial. That one looks like it has been dishwashed for 10 years. Don't ask me how I know.
Orbit Culture? I see you‘re a man of culture as well! 🤘🏻
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
I love Moto Guzzi!
Mandello for me 🍻
Neat lookin bike. Probably would never own one as I prefer other Neato lookin bikes haha
Local Shop has a Stelvio that has been bothering me. What do you think about a Stelvio as a KLR follow-up.
You need to find out if the Stelio is an original flat tappet engine or roller rockers . If it is not rollers, then run. The 1200 4V engines are good bikes, but you really need to know the mechanics
It's a 2017
@@hvymax So that's a very late model. Should be completely sorted. Go for it. The CRC final drive on these bikes is actually well engineered. I'm sure it's a very good value compared to a BMW GS.
I’ve listed after the Griso since they came out - maybe someday . . .
A big motor cycle? Not really. The engine is pretty large with almost 1100cc. I sold my Griso after three fun years because it was too small for me with 6ft 3. Especially when you see me sitting on the bike from behind, as the rear is pretty small of the bike. Not mine :-) But overall a great motorcycle, highly recommend it.
7:43... Sorry Spite I had to! lol

It's one of the most stylish guzzis of an Era. I totally agree and disagree with some thoughts. I shall review a 2006 griso which I've thrown a leg over for over 6000 days. 😂😂😮😊😊😊😊
Need ride 1200se 8v
Griso the lockness monster of lake como. I'm from Maryland, we had chessie. It's just a bs kids story name.
Mandello! 👍
I like the bike and tried buying the bike from the dealer !
I don’t live in Texas so they will not finance the bike and shipping.
I will not wire money to anyone I have not done business with or know !
!!! Even with cash down on the bike !
Thanks to Van Driessen for his thoughts on the Griso. Awesome content. Can't wait to hear and see the gen 2.
Yup, a good bike. Get hold of a 2015 BMW K1600. Take off the bags and top-box (very, very easy). Go for a ride. You think that the Guzzi is heavy? However the BMW is far more agile, and brutal. Der Kleiner Pnazer...... Nice review Spite, much enjoyed.
Your review sounds exactly how a torquey, heavy, 1100cc bike would be. 😂
This one will find you a wife Spite. A nice Italian one, that will cook you some meals too.
Thoughtful forgiving and something to swear at.Thats why I married my wife!🏴
Nice bike. I might be interested in trying one of these if I don't geezer out too badly too soon.Don't bother replying because I can't read it anyway, because I have to upgrade my stuff in order to view Telegram.
Yup! Its a Guzzy....
I thought the Breva was the more "naked" bike version.
Moto Guzzi made more sense when they had a lower MSRP.
