Bergkamp and Zola were classed as strikers at the time, same as Cantona, Sherringham, Yorke. Creative they may all have been but they were strikers not midfielders. In the systems they played they were strikers.

From Drogba in 9th, to Aguero in 6th to not having RVP, Eric Cantona or Michael Owen in this list is criminal from Akinfenwa.

why so henry first, rooney second, kane third, shearer fourth is all reasonable and deserved so at best he is fifth. aguero is consistent but didnt have the highs of those players or suarez/rvp.

He is certainly one of the best to grace the Premier League. His stats speaks for itself. His minutes per goal is best in the PL era. If not for his frequent injuries, he would have been close to Shearer's goal tally.
Not in the top 10 but a very honourable mention is Robbie Keane,nearly 20 goals every season he played,goal machine.

Aguero never seems to rank in the top 3-5 of these lists. I find it astonishing. His goals to game ratio was incredible, he did it for almost a decade without a bad season, always scored in big games and won more trophies than most.

Was he as versatile/selfless/energetic and was world class in all of those positions as Rooney ?

Arguably he could've been over Cole, but Cole was magic and had skill and control apart from world class finishing, so probably not as well.
His position in 6 is well justified, he's clearly better than everyone under him. We still have a good number of strikers who didn't see this list, especially Cantona who i'd put on par with Aguero

Playing on the left wing, not to mention he was an unbelievable dribbler, for his frame he was strong and also had one of the best goal scoring records. Even after his injuries in the past few years he managed to notch atleast 40goals/assists in each one of them for city. There is a reason why kun was so instrumental, and if u talk about impact, man laid the groundwork for the city juggernaut they are today, played with not the best team at city for the first few years and even when he was out favour with pep, he still managed to get in the numbers. Aguero as a striker, was insane.
No Ruud van Nistelrooy?! He scored 150 goals in 219 games for United.

@@miamitten1123 That's not a bad thing, to be fair. It takes footballing IQ and instinct to be in the right place at the right time. A true number 9's job is literally to be at the right spot at the right moment to finish the build up. Haaland is a good example of that currently.

I get that longevity is a thing which is probably why he was excluded as he was only in the Prem for 3 and a half years, but Luis Suarez without question one of the best forwards I've ever seen play in this division.

Agree with most of what you said but you also said you wouldn't have Aguero outside your top 4 when he came up at 6th then when you saw the top 4 you said you wouldn't change it. Went very quiet on that matter after. People always happy to slate a list as people come to decisions on players off various factors so no one is ever going to agree. Defoe and Vardy over some of the names mentioned is madness though.
Rory, I believe you all don't get the difference between the terms 'best' and 'greatest'. The term 'best' should used for the talent, quality and genius of a player purely, irrespective of their longevity, while 'great' takes longevity and achievements into consideration. Obviously, the 'best' player is someone who also has to win games and a fair amount of trophies, and must be a proper team-player. But, excluding someone because he wasn't in the PL long enough is an argument against a list of 'greatest players' and not for 'best players'. So, Suarez has to be in the list for me.
Love the respect to Vardy. Over 130+ prem league goals scored. Won premier league player of the season and the golden boot. Has a premier league and an FA cup. Hes 36 and hes still scoring goals. Hes arguably the most overlooked player in premier league history.
...and Vardy came into the league late in his career. Damn near 30 years old when he won the Premiership. He's the same age as Messi/Ronaldo/Rooney then Kane.

3) Kane: 2nd top scorer in PL history with spurs, most prolific in PL
4) Shearer: Simply based on the most goals
5) Aguero: Monster goal scorer with 184 goals, big moment, 5PL
6) Cole: 187 goals, before haaland most goals in a season, 5PL
7) Bergkamp: Invincible, 3PL, not a goalscorer but technically sound and incredible
8) Drogba: Big game player, had everything you could want, 4PL
9) Cantona: 4PL and brought Man u back to glory days
10 Fowler: 163 goals, no titles won but kept liverpool afloat for one of their worst periods

I’m a Liverpool fan, but Aguero was the player who scared me the most out of everyone in premier league history besides Ronaldo and Hazard. He was the complete package as a striker, so many times against Liverpool he created a chance or goal out of nothing, like that long range goal when we were winning 3-0 and he took it from the halfway line when City were playing awful, or when he used to create assists in the 6 yard box easily. He’s statistically the 4th best dribbler in Europe in the 21st century after Messi, Hazard and Neymar. He was strong, good in the air, won 5 premier leagues, has the best goals per game ratio in prem history and has scored the most goals against the big 6 in prem history too. There’s a reason Rio Ferdinand said he was tougher to play than Suarez. Also the “best team” argument is senseless considering City weren’t always the best team when Aguero played for them. Are you gonna say the same for Rooney at United or De Bruyne at City?

This man could hold any defender on his back. And spin and leave them for dead. Strength, power, better in the air then any of the, even drogba, volleys galore from 25 yards, technique, first touch through on goal. And way ahead in terms of all time PL Goals.
Kane picks ball up and threads passes better but Shearer used to knock on the ball with his head instead. Henry was obviously more graceful and beautiful to watch, but I always think of him as coming from the left hand side like salah on the right positionally. Tough one. But Shearer all day for me. 👍

It's easier to score goals for top clubs when you have the best players of the world around you. Defoe did it for 15+ years in non-top 4 clubs. Deserves a mention for sure. May not get in my top 10 but i can see why he makes it in this one!

Henry is only #1 if you consider what he did outside the EPL.
Shearer is the #1 best striker of the EPL. He is the record holder, and did it playing for mostly average teams throughout his career. The swashbuckling days of star studded Newcastle only lasted for a few years with Shearer the only remaining shining star.

Don’t think it should be purely based on longevity, there’s many reasons why you may not have longevity in the premier league, injuries and also moving in to the likes of Madrid, Barcelona. I’m a Chelsea fan but Suarez definitely deserves to be in there. Most goals or something in one season before Haaland. I think individual seasons should have significant weight aswell and what they achieved that season.

I think a better format would have been to put all 3 people's lists on the board as you have the space and talk about which order to finally agree on. You would end up tight groupings of the same players which would be a good debate and then wider shouts for other players.

Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Neville, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Rooney, Beckham, Owen, Campbell, Carragher, Hargreaves, Carrick, Crouch, Walcott.... The talent in that squad is head and shoulders above the current England squad yet our current squad has performed leaps and bounds above that 2006 era.

How is Kane above Shearer, nobody mentioned the injuries Shearer had, he missed nearly 3 seasons of his career. Plus, Shearer played in an era with the best defenders and still got 260 goals, he would score like Haaland now, there's only 3-4 top class centre backs now, Van Dijk, Dias, Gabriel and Saliba.
Shearer in his prime at Blackburn was a machine. His levels dipped due to injuries, but still performed at Newcastle, especially under Robson.
Having said, Henry was something else and deserves to be top of the list.
Good to see Andy Cole high up, as feel he's often underrated and overlooked. He scored goals for fun at Newcastle, Man Utd and beyond.

Leaving Suarez off the list is criminal. It's not about who played the most games in the PL but who was the BEST Strikers to have ever played in the PL. His peak season in the PL blows away most of the strikers on this list.

Shearer's peak was end of Southampton, Blackburn and first season at Newcastle (before a serious injury) he was still amazing, but not quite as quick after that injury.

2. Thierry Henry: One of the best players EPL has ever seen.
3. Alan Shearer: Highest EPL Scorer of all time
4. Sergio Aguero/Eric Cantonna: One of the best Strikers EPL has ever seen./His contribution to EPL is unmatched.
5. Andy Cole/Diwght Yorke: One of the cleanest srikers, can't break their partnership.
6. Michael Owen/Teddy Sheringham/Jurgen Klinsmann: Ballon D'Or, 163 Goals, his run at Liverpool, Pheneomenal./146 Goals, one of the most fearsome striker, absolute legend./Isn't talked about enough.
7. Harry Kane/Dennis Bergkamp: One of the best Modern Day striker./ Highly Underrated
8. Robbie Fowler/Luis Suarez: Legend of the game/One of the best solo season by any player
9. Rudd van Nisterlooy/Didier Drogba/Gianfranco Zola/Ole Gunnar Solskjaer/RVP: One of the most lethal strikers/Big Game Player/Underrated Beast/Super-Sub/Underrated Beast.

Cantona won Leeds the last division 1 title, went to Man utd won the league every year except when he was on the ban when cole hit the post and missed at weat ham last day of the season. Cantona and that great utd team couldn't play more than 3 non englishmen in europe until 1995 or 96
Kane over Salah even though since Salah came back to PL in 2017 he has more goals than Kane and don't forget that Salah is a winger/striker, it should be Henry and Salah as top 2 because they're literally the 2 best players in the PL era
You know ball. Honestly so strange how reluctant people are to proclaim Salah as a Top 2 PL player ever. He is literally the second coming of Henry, statistically. Nobody comes close to those two.
Henry had better dribbling but Salah has better performances vs the Big Six. Henry had better ballstriking but Salah has been better in Europe/the Champions League. Despite the assist record, over their 'peak' spans, Salah is a better creator which makes sense because he's a winger.
Just look at the stats. Henry is probably the PL GOAT, but Salah runs him dangerously close to the edge in a way that nobody else has ever done. It's also overlooked that Henry played centrally, which increased his time spent in goalscoring positions, whereas Salah is sent to play with the advertising board on the touchline for 75% of a game.

Complete delusion. Kane has a better goal per game ratio, a better goal per minutes ratio and if you take away penalties from both players the ratios for both widen further.

I don’t think Salah and Rooney count as strikers. Salah has played out wide his whole career, and I remember Rooney as more of a CAM/Second Striker in behind someone like RVP.

The conversation was funny to watch quickly went from striker to a better all round player. Lets be fair strikers are all about goals and that’s it. Some big names missing it’s a wild ten but that’s his opinion. Aguero at 6 😮 not even a city fan and that got me. Get the love for Defoe and Vardy both top strikers but in the top ten is questionable in my opinion.

I mean Shearer just has to be top 3 of all time in any conversation regardless, and so many people forget how injured he was too, not even towards the end of career he had seriously bad knee and shin injuries and took more knocks to the head than i think he can even remember (for obvious reasons lmao). You can take into account he won Blackburns title too like vardy with leicester, and scored so many goals prior to the Premier League forming. If you add his club goals in the top division, and think about just how many goals he would have scored on top of his several injuries that lasted over 473 days total, missing a total of over 85 games, and to STILL be the record scorer after all this time and with Kane moving on to the Bundesliga, he just always always always has to be top 3 no matter what. Henry and Aguero and Rooney were all round better players on the pitch yes, but to score just the shear amount and with the quality a lot of those were scored, in an exciting blackburn and newcastle team where not every goal was a tap-in, competing with Les Ferdinand and Cole to score too is just simply astonishing. Always gets looked down on for not securing the title in 95/96, despite having already won one.
No Les Ferdinand, Bergkamp or Van Nistelrooy, not to mention Michael Owen who won the Balon d'or who was lethal for 7 years until he got injured. The problem with this video is the title isn't clear. Rory and the others are debating who's the better footballer and Akinbye is debating who was better at scoring goals in the PL. It's a debate over PL longevity vs footballing talent. There's also players like Collymore, Le Tissier, Apsrilla and DI Canio who deserve a mention with the quality of their goals.

Shearer is clear. Half his time at Newcastle they were bottom half and he had lost two years or so over his career with skme BRUTAL injuries...and he is still well ahead in goals. Absolute BEAST.

I don't think most fans know this but Aguero has the highest goal ratio(108 minutes per goal, second place Henry 122 minutes goal) in premier league history and it is not particularly close. oh and he has 5 premier league titles, golden boot, and some of the most clutch goals in prem history. to leave him outside the top 3 shows you are a casual or biased against mancity which is not surprising considering. very underrated striker.
Bro is crazy putting Salah in list of top 10 strikers. Salah is an amazing goal scorer but he is winger no matter how much game has evolved, he is positionally a winger. Period.
