63 unseen images this year - WHERE WHEN and HOW

  • In this video, I showcase 63 images I recently captured that wouldn't normally see the light of day.
I haven't created/uploaded a video in 3 weeks. The reason I haven't had the time is simply due to work commitments. I'm crazily busy at the studio and in the field. This is definitely not a complaint though. Life for me as I'm sure for you too is slowly returning to normal again, Yipee!
Anyway's, because it's been so long I thought I would put out a very different video. I take thousands of images yearly that never see the light of day. Some for very good reason but there are plenty that are definitely worth showcasing!
These pictures were created whilst either running workshops, 1-2-1's or for personal projects.
These images are a mixed bag, I hope there are some in there you like?

I'm blown away... 90% of these images are simply stunning Gary... and for them to be unseen images is a real shame... almost criminal really...lol.
Maybe you should do 'An Evening with Gary Gough. The Unseen Images' a couple of times a year at your studio, or indeed set up a gallery, these images and I suspect many many more should definitely not just sit on your hard drive unseen.
I'm hoping one day in the not so distant future I can book either a one to one or a workshop with you, I love your style of photography and the way you approach it and I know I could learn an awful lot from you.
Love the videos Gary, looking forward to the next instalment.

Thank you Gary for the time you must have put into this video. In regard to your comment about why you are a better photographer. I was the principle Euphonium player for a local Silver Band. The conductor at the time was an ex Royal Marine Bandsman Euphonium player who had served 18 months on the Royal Yacht Band. He said to me one night after rehearsal that he never expected my standard of musicianship to be as good as his because as a Royal Marine he played 8 hours a day 7 days a week. I always aspired to have the tone & musical expression that he had. However, he said, he could not even contemplate doing the job I do. He would not have the knowledge & skills or the dexterity. As with many keen amateur landscape photographers we have to find the time to go out with our cameras around jobs, family & home life. The same principles apply as the musician. I took up photography when I stopped playing my Euphonium although it is in the front room. It is a hobby which is progressing to better images & my post processing has made even better progress. It is all about time & effort not money on gear. Photography is your living & with years of experience, we as weekend warriors can't expect to achieve yours heights over night. I will keep trying.

More of the same please Gary, it’s nice to see images that you are not 100% happy to put out and an explanation as to why. They were all great in my eyes. My favourite, before you asked was the Angel of the North and I look forward to your Vlog on it later, I too stopped off returning from the Scottish Highlands to grab a few shots of it on the way home but they were more from unusual angles, in broad daylight and in silhouette as there were so many people there and I couldn’t afford to pay them to move 😂

A very enjoyable watch Gary and the best shot of Penmon Light House I have seen (I have seen loads). The first shot of Tryfan I prefer, love the composition, the second one, that drystone wall spoils the view of Tryfan, the Glyderau, and Y Garn. But those mountains are close to my heart. The Angel of the North, what you said at the beginning holds true, when I photographed it I was luckier than you the weather was fair growling and the impact added so much to the shot. Now for the best bit something else you said about running your courses, that you stay on so you can photograph the area. Too many complaints from people who have been on courses and moaning about photographers taking their own shots when they should be teaching their clients. Having watched many of your vlogs, I get the feeling you have the ability to teach and take brilliant shots rather than just the latter. One last thing, the pointy mountain is not called the Buchaille, the Buchaille Etive Mor consists of two mountains, the pointy one is called Stob Dearg (Stop Jerrack). Oh and the ponies are wild on the Carneddau, but the farmers round them up once a year to check their health.

Gary is Human like us all woohoo,
Nope all kidding aside Gary, this has just made me feel like I ain’t a complete failure when I can’t either see, capture an image in field, then finalise an image in post processing. I know I don’t get out enough at all. Which I will be working on from a personal point of view.
What I have taken from this Vlog is that no matter what we need to be out there learning and experiencing situations and learning from them. And most importantly taken Shots.
I personal would like to thank you for putting this Vlog together I think not just from my point of view but many, we all agree that it doesn’t come easy we need to be dedicated to our art. And you are certainly that.
Your a very busy man that always thinks of his members and what’s best for us and I think a lot of members will agree that vlogs like this are favourable.
Those shots you have taken but not showcased were lovely images and I can just imagine having seen some of your slides and how many images you take per image, takes up a lot of time.
    As always thank you.

I really enjoyed getting inside your head for a moment in order to understand your creative self analysis. It’s always great to get another person’s perspective. Your comments are pushing me to stop, think and most of all slow down. Take the time to analyze. One question, do you bring in elements from other similar images shot on the day when editing to move a rock or castle. Perhaps selected to help blend the edit more effectively.

As someone once shared this thought with me, "your bad luck is better than my good luck", I'll say your not seeing the light of day photos are better than most of the photos I show. Working the scene and really, really paying attention to the composition is a big part of what I'm taking away from this video.

I really liked this video, insightful to see just how many images you typically take of a given scene - I had no idea! I think my favorite was toward the end with the black and white quarry - such an atmospheric scene.

Glad work is picking up mate, I’m still processing pictures from 2013.

Enjoyed it very much thank you. Maybe just do about 21 at a time rather than 63 and take slightly, only slightly, more time on each image.

Gary, you have expressed well how you came out to be where your skills are. Completely about the exposure to a lot of shots and learning from each images you took! Humbly expressed and totally true! Kudos as always Gary!

Glad to hear that finally business is heading back towards normal Gary 👍 Whislt I kinda agree with your initial statement around time spent in the field etc BUT I'd add that the best of you photographers have a little bit of something else, that us mere mortals don't have ..... but we can keep trying 😊

Thank you for sharing all those images 🙏. It was very useful to understand the thought process. I noticed that many of the images have different Aperture settings. If you can cover this in some video in future when you are free it would be really helpful. 🙏🙏
