Overtime i've started to realize that the greatest watches are the watches that you don't worry about being scratched or heavily used or beaten when wearing them or even when it's lost. Watches that offer quality at a very reasonable price and that are readily available and not so hard to get . Watches that feel more of a personal item than being an asset. Watches that are fun to wear while putting your mind at ease. Those are the watches that i found i connect to the most throughout the years.
I agree. This week I've been wearing my Citizen Promaster on a rubber strap. It's quite liberating. Now the weekend is here, and the Breitling will get some sunshine.
Citizen Pro-master is a very fine choice. Promaster Skyhawk has been on my list, i'm willing to buy one in the future. i hear positive feedback from everyone who bought it .
My modded Seiko SKX173 fits your description to a T. It’s neither the most expensive nor the top-of-the-range piece of my collection. It’s easy to dismiss it as a “beater”, but IMHO, that’s what’s so good about it. It can go anywhere and do anything. It’s built like a tank, and I love wearing it. I sent it brand new in box to have the case bead-blasted, and a few years after that I had it fitted with a new hand set. I’m now looking at options for a new bezel, and maybe a Kanji day wheel. No matter what changes are made to its appearance, it will always be fun to wear and with how it handles itself, it always puts my mind at ease.
I wear all my watches without worrying. Rolex, Heuer, Breitling Seiko,Tag Heuer. I feel alot are way to anal in the hobby. Worrying about every scratch. Scratches are going to happen it's inevitable. They are part of the watches journey
Your writing, tone, and theme were on fire in this video. I’ve never really considered owning a Speedie before but I was read to buy one immediately. Well done!
Speedmaster for ever. Perfect design and the price is realistic for a normal working human. And when you have the money you can just go to a shop and buy one, which is not so obvious with other brands. If all the prices from all of the watches in the world would be removed and someone told me to pick just one watch it would be Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 42mm O31030425001002.
I go with a vintage Omega Flight master or Mark 3. I used to want a Speedmaster but I just go soo sick of it unfortunately. When I hear it's the watch that went to moon ? I want to puke coat hangers LOL
The watch I own that brings me the most pleasure and the one I wear everyday is the Timex/Hodinkee Waterbury. My grandfather wore a Timex (WWII 94th infantry) and is one of my heroes. If Timex was good enough for him it's more than good enough for me. I do love looking at all the wonderful timepieces shown on your channel but I really do love my watch.
CWC 72 Mellor Mechanical - quintessentially British and beautiful in its authentic simplicity - the watch I go to when my luxury piece is too much for today - less is more
Have always been enamored with Hamilton. Glad to see the Swiss kept the design tradition alive (So much so, I still consider Hamilton an American watch!). I believe Hamilton offers a lot of bang for the price point. Have recently purchased the Pilot, black dial, auto, with the day at the top and the date at 6 o'clock (Nicely balanced), it has enough class to strap it on the wrist for that special occasion and I love open-back watches. I purchased the Hamilton Khaki, grey dial, day-date at 3 o'clock, auto, open back, as my everyday work horse....... looks great with a brown strap. The 80-hr reserve on both watches is impressive. Again, purchased new at a great price, well below retail.
A watch I absolutely love even though its specs are suboptimal is my Q Timex Falcon Eye. I'd like to get a less noisy, more high end movement in there but even then I just LOVE it. Mine has perfect finishing and it's so gaudy it reverts back into being tasteful
I love my Seiko Air Diver 200m PADI Solar. I wear it everywhere, its just the best watch i have ever owned, and i have had a few. I recently sold my White Face Daytona because i just didnt wear it....
Beautifully written. Thank you. You accomplished great sensitivity without falling into sentimentality, and all with impeccable phrasing. And for my choices, since you asked - Omega (natch) Planet Ocean from 2011 - the days of "Liquid Metal," before ceramic - and Omega (natch) Seamaster Diver 300 Chronograph in gold, rubber strap. (The Planet Ocean only pretends to be a dive watch; it is actually black tie.)
Hoverboards have been made, but they require a magnetic track to function, which is why the only ones are one a specialised half pipe. Look them up, they look fun!
Got a bunch more on the way haha. Of these own2 and one variant. Hesalite Speedy sandwich (lemania decorated movement), also 600 m orange bezel coaxial, And the GS Omitawari. All are special
I love the Hamilton Pilot Pioneer but I just know I would wreck that domed mineral crystal. I don't mind mineral on a proper SKX or a Timex, and acrylic can be gorgeous if done right (polywatch ftw), but for me I know I'd buy it, put it on, turn around and immediately bash it into a door knob
I’ve heard some bollocks in my time but this channel is going for the championship. I Like it and can’t wait for the next round! Just to say, I do have the Speedmaster with Heselite and I always switch my phone off, until I need the bloody thing….
The best watch is the one you wear, not the other way around. When you worry too much about wearing a watch to the point that you just don't enjoy wearing it it's just pointless to have it. I sold a 16610 Sub because it was top heavy and I was worried it about banging it or scratching it all the time, I wasn't even really wearing it anymore. After that I got me an Omega Seamaster 300m white dial and I took the rubber strap off and put it on an Uncle Seiko bracelet. I never once worried about having it on, partly because I knew the bracelet was a cheap generic brand (I hate the Seamaster bracelet) and didn't really cared if it got scratched, I really enjoyed wearing it because I was not worried at all about it. I then sold it to buy an 16570 Polar Explorer II which I always wanted and while it wears loads better than the Sub I'm once again always worried about getting it too messed up. I'm seriously considering selling the Explorer II now and buying the same Seamaster model and getting another Uncle Seiko bracelet. Most people yearn to have a Rolex, but when I do one they wear me, and I hate it. I have had 6 different Rolex models, and I enjoyed that Seamaster more than any of them. Sometimes the things that can be enjoyed the most are more simple and don't have to be top of the line, or "grails", my dream car is the 911, and I bet almost anything that I would enjoy the base 911 more than any S, GTS, Turbo etc for daily driving. Get what you enjoy having, not what will impress others.
Having two of my three favourite watches at the start of a video makes me feel a lot of feelings 😍 Thank you for another banger, Andrew and Watchfinder.
I think you parsed out a number of great candidates. I have that GS and love it, though dress watches do get limited time these days in retirement. I'd buy a "watermelon" tomorrow if I could get one. Subscribed to their mailers.
The moonwatch is now too expensive, they want to compete with Daytona on the 321 line and increased price for the 3861. Some years ago you could buy the 1864 for 3k
Why do I watch his watch channel? Is it the watches or dialogue? Whatever it may be, I'm now searching for an Omega Moonwatch..and Seamaster...a Watermelon Watch...a Grand Seiko in the snow..and a Hamilton... Thanks 🙂
Exceptional writing, Andrew (as usual)... Kudos for another thoughtful video that somehow lures you in with the "bait" of watches, yet ends up saying so much more, in a truly meaningful, and in no way preachy manner. Please keep up the good work. Your videos are one of the reasons that my passion for watches is so much more than the confluence of mechanics and aesthetics that was foundational to my early interest.
When I saw the water melon I thought that’s shit, I’d never wear that but after the words about making you smile I actually thought he’s right, if I did have that watch I really would smile when I read the time 😁
Variation on themes is your forte Andrew. Just about, ( with some exceptions ), any well made non fake unplagiarized watch works for me as a refutation of barbarism. Top of the tree is anything exquisitely and thoughtfully made, eg. the Omi Watari. Though I'm not sure I would own one, already having an SBGW231 and feeling a little cold towards it. That's the problem with perfection; where's the humour? Still, as a watch it's hard to beat, especially in terms of value compared to the likes of Royal Oaks, Calatravas, etc. However, once the value equation is exceeded you need humour or delusion to sustain justification, which is a caveat to my "just about" sentence. Hmm, maybe I could find humour in the OmiWatari if I wore it to MMA cage events. Or is it that I would find humour in MMA cage fighting if I wore an Omi Watari? There, I've found justification in paradox.
If, as you say ' to many people are consuming to many things', why, why arent there any storages of these 'things'. According to 70s powers that be, we hit peak oil and would be virtually dry by the 90s🤔..........yet 25 to 35 years on, we use far far more of the stuff..........and it still haven't ran out.
The texture in these super close ups can look somewhat coarse, at normal viewing distance it's a nuance that one appreciates... It's a somewhat oddly shaped watch that Hamiton has dressed up from its military roots and transformed into something rather elegant.
I used to want a Speedmaster but Omega played it the hell out. They watered it down soo much. It's not the great watch it was like in the 70's. The Swatch group ran Omega into the ground a real shame
Honestly I just wanna commend watchfinder for going five minutes without putting “CHEAPER AND BETTER THAN ROLEX” in the thumbnail or title Sigh, you guys were the best on CZcams not too long ago, now it feels like grasping for the hype around the same content you already made
“The Omega Speedmaster ranked solely on specifications is one of the worst watches you can buy…” -> I mean… What??! I would be happy to explain why this statement is wrong on so many levels but I don’t think it’s necessary, you already had plenty of videos saying the exact opposite about the Speedmaster Peofessional (42mm wears much smaller due to the asimetric design, 50m water resistant is basically normal in this category and during the METAS certified tests this water resistance was also tested, handwinding is a feature that some like, some not. we can buy extremely expensive watches that are not automatic and it does not make them better or worse.) You also just forgot to mention the coaxial escapement, the METAS certification as master chronometer, the amazing bracelet and the great value for money. What I just cannot understand is why this bs was needed (that I think not even you believe). I usually like your videos, but this one pissed me off - not because you like or dislike a watch, but because I feel it’s just clickbait content that is inconsistent with your other videos and opinions.
Even though it has become de rigeuer to hate on all things Rolex, to deny the Submariner it's rightful place in the pantheon of wristwatches is to demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of all things horological. I may be biased in that I own and wear as my everyday watch a Submariner (no date), but it gives me joy each time I glance at it and look upon its iconic design and superior accuracy. Yep, it's a Rolex, but that is not why I love it. My affection is for what it means to me: a pillar in the pantheon, the perfect diver. Cheers!

Well nowadays when I see someone wearing a new Rolex model, the impression I get is of a sucker having to buy a watch that is likely second-hand probably had paid above the MRP just to prove he is somewhat special lol... or someone who had to cozy up to sales reps at authorized retailers and likely wait months for the hope of being remembered and offered a watch... pathetic which ever way you look at it... I pity them.
When I look at people with an omega I think of people who wanted a Rolex but couldn’t afford it 😢 Or wasn’t important enough to get one at retail 😂😂😂😂 #settler
@@adrianhargreaves2854what??? What stupidity is this. Just remember one started out as a watchmaker and to this day still is, the other is a seller of pieced together parts made by others with their name on it. Doesn’t matter if you buy up all your suppliers.

They also just look too ostentatious plus most of the people that I have met that wear them aren't really watch people.
When I look at people with an omega
I think of people who wanted a Rolex but couldn’t afford it 😢
Or wasn’t important enough to get one at retail
😂😂😂😂

@@adrianhargreaves2854what??? What stupidity is this. Just remember one started out as a watchmaker and to this day still is, the other is a seller of pieced together parts made by others with their name on it. Doesn’t matter if you buy up all your suppliers.

Actually there's plenty of resources and land to give everyone a good quality of life. Sadly the green stuff is artificially making energy too expensive for no real reason except to try and reduce the human population.
