  • Here’s 5 ways you can push the Astral Destiny into sounds that are more advanced than shimmer reverb. Most of these will be unrecognizable as being reverb-based effects. Settings and timestamps below. Additional animation and graphics by John Marty and Greg Sadetsky.

PRO-TIP #1: VOLUME SWELLS WITH COSMOS MODE
    Length: 30%
    Mode: Cosmos
    Depth: 100%
    Rate: 20%
    Tone: 100%
    Mix: 100%
    PRO-TIP #2: MAKE YOUR GUITAR A SYNTH
    Length: Minimum
    Mode: Sub Shimmer
    Depth: 20%
    Rate: 80%
    Tone: 100%
Mix: set an expression pedal to control this
    Stretch Mode: leave it on
    PRO-TIP #3: STUTTER STEP = REALLY GOOD
    Length: Minimum
    Mode: Abyss
    Depth: 5%
    Rate: 95%
    Tone: 55%
    Mix: 100%
NOTE: if you run this into your amp or even into your drive pedals (as opposed to in an FX loop), it will crash the fidelity down a little bit and make the tone sound even more like a sample
    PRO-TIP #4: SPRING REVERB
    Length: Minimum
    Mode: Abyss
    Depth: 5%
    Rate: 95%
    Tone: 55%
    Mix: 100%
    PRO-TIP #5: REVOLUTIONARY SEQUENCER TRICK
Save presets that sound very different, put them in adjacent slots, and turn the Preset knob while you’re playing.
INTERESTING DISCOVERY: I don’t really talk about this in the video, but when Stretch Mode is activated, the value of the Rate knob is halved.

You know, a lot of how to videos out there you just watch once, maybe twice if you forgot something. But a Cyberattack how to video is something you can come back to and re-watch just to appreciate on it's own artistic merits.

This exactly. It's like watching a documentary after school at your best friend's house and he's like, we're going to watch a documentary and you're like "Dude, I thought we were going to watch Voltron?!" and he's like, no man, let's learn about eels and he makes you a bowl of cereal and then it's a totally dope afternoon learning about Anguilliformes and bonding with your mate along the way. Cyberattack has expanded the fun / musical education realm and it's expanding my mind in all the right ways.

I don't have an astral destiny and I'm not advanced but a really weird but fun way to do swells is this.
    Reverb>dirt>volume pedal>shimmer
I do that with my afterneath before the dirt and my mercury 7 at the end. The afterneath has a boomynes when overdriven and the shimmer verb pretties it back up.

Cool sounds man, I usually mess around with grain delay in ableton, but I can only do that for recording. Don't really have a way to do it live. Some of this is kinda close to what I end up going for in the studio (aka my bedroom lol) though.

  • @GoCreateSomething
    @GoCreateSomething Před 10 měsíci

I think the only thing missing on the spring verb setting was the drip, and a spring reverb doesn't have to do that. So how long until you have a John 5 tele or a Buckethead guitar with a built in kill/stutter switch? You might be able to do something similar with a square wave trem. You know what would make a good video? How to be advanced with the Zzombee from Beetronics. Guess I'll have to look at your catalog and see if you have anything on it yet.

    • @CyberattackWorld
      @CyberattackWorld  Před 2 lety +1

If you want to do a lot of home recording and you want to use pedals in place of rack gear, then having one stereo reverb pedal is crucial for that.
If you don’t plan on recording too much with it, or you already have at least one stereo reverb pedal, then I don’t think it matters. The non-shimmer sounds in the Astral Destiny are cool and it works well as a grab-and-go pedal.

I had a Ernie Ball volume pedal that I used for a somewhat similar effect recording our 2nd album back in the mid 90s, maybe I'm just a spazz but I was able to get it modulating pretty fast with my foot after some practice. I've seen that pedal with a standard stomp switch (with a longer throw) instead of a arcade switch. I was thinking about getting the arcade button version you have as it seems it would be pretty easy to tap quickly with the shorter throw. Ever try without shoes? Just use your toes?
