  • This is my journey to become a runner. I want a run a 5k and as a beginner runner, sometimes you have to walk before you can run. As a refresher, last year I started a health and fitness journey. I've been incorporating physical activity into my life more through strength training, walking and other movement I enjoy. Now, I want to run. Yep I want to be a beginner runner. My body has transformed to support me and I definitely see some weight loss. I've also supported this journey with medication.
One thing Ive learned is I do best when I have goals and a community. Logically running made the most sense because it allows me to stay competitive with myself, while also connecting with other runners. In my last video I learned I walk incorrectly and in this video I work and improve my walking gait to take my next steps towards running a 5k.
In this video work with Runlab. RunLab is a collection of physical therapy and mobility doctors & specialists who focus on helping people achieve their movement goals. I also visit Ready to Run, a local running specialty store. My goal is to safely run a 5k in my plus size body, while protecting my joints and preventing injury. In this video I learn more about how I move currently, what needs fixed, and shop for shoes to help me achieve my goals.
This is real fitness motivation and inspiration, my running journey shows the realities of plus size body living an active lifestyle- especially learning to run. Big change takes time and consistency and Im committed baby! You can achieve your fitness goals. Celebrating small wins and constantly showing up for yourself is what leads to real change.
Also, I am not a fitness expert and I cannot give medical or training advice. If you want to begin a similar journey as always I encourage to seek out your primary care doctor first for a holistic view of your health and to address any underlying medical conditions. Then, work with specialists on achieving your specific fitness goals. If anything I've learned on this health journey is that our bodies are unique and we need individualized health and training plans.
If you are at the phase where you want to run or just improve your mobility and joint health and are looking for a gait analysis or physical therapy, I cannot recommend RunLab Austin more. They provide in person and virtual appointments if you are not in the Austin area. Check them out here! runlabaustin.com/
This video is not sponsored by RunLab or Ready To Run ( I bought my own shoes) and all opinions are my own. We were gifted training sessions, but that was after I approached them for help in achieving my running goals.
