Rhodesian Ridgeback Dog Breed Guide | Dogs 101
The Rhodesian Ridgebacks are muscular and lean with a wide chest and powerful legs. They have a large head with wide-set ears that hang down close to the face. The muzzle is long and strong (sometimes wrinkled) with a black nose.
Their tail is long and strong at the base, tapering to a point and carried low when relaxed or moving, but raises when excited or alert. This breed comes in different colors including wheaten, red wheaten, and light wheaten, which can range from pale fawn to almost cream. The skin on their heads is loose so they can turn easily while hunting to catch prey coming from any angle.

My grandmother had two ridgebacks when I was growing up. They were brothers and were inseparable. Both weighed over 100 pounds even though one of them was the runt of the litter. My grandmother was 4'11 so her dogs also gave her a huge sense of security. They were extremely stubborn but he had a very close bond with those dogs and they would only listen to her. They were very patient with people they were familiar with but if someone they didn't know got anywhere close to my grandmother, they would watch very closely. I basically grew up with them and shared my own special bond with the larger of the brothers. He would always follow me around when I visited and would hangout on the couch with me.. sometimes he'd even listen to me but not often. They were great dogs.

I would love to know the folks who compare their size to a Lab/Border collie or Cocker Spaniel.... seriously lol?! they dwarf even a Labrador in every aspect and are definitely not a medium sized dog by any means (ive had the pleasure of owning 3 of these unique dogs)... my current 15 month Ridgeback is already 110 lbs!
My 5 month old is already bigger than any Cocker Spaniel Iâve ever seen. That was a ridiculous comment and I couldnât take this serious after that.
Are RRB's born with the ridge on thier back or does it develop with time?

Bulawayo, South Africa?? Good grief! Bulawayo is a city in what was Rhodesia and is now called Zimbabwe. It is certainly NOT in South Africa. Zimbabwe/Rhodesia is our nothern neighbour. It's like saying, Toronto, USA.
