Commuting Internationally - How I've Made It Work Being a Flight Attendant & Military Spouse

- Come along my journey the past two years of commuting from Japan! I've found a semi-permanent solution to managing the exhaustion of living so far from work as a flight attendant. It's been renting a furnished apartment in base so I have a "home" in-between trips. This video showcases how having a semi-permanent housing solution in base while living abroad is so helpful for a commuting flight attendant. Whether that means a sublease, living with family/friends in your base city, splitting an apt with other FAs, or getting a crash pad. Nothing beats not having to get on an airplane between trips.

At the time of this upload Hello Landing unfortunately raised their Standby prices from when I filmed this video. It still can be a viable option for some, so if you're interested, here's the link for more information: www.hellolanding.com/p/standby/
I'm kind of feeling the voiceover style lately, if you want to see more let me know in the comments!

New Vlog yay!!! 🎉❤
Great video and informative. I got it. It's nice you are able to jump seat if you can't get stand by.
thank you so much! yes it makes for a great backup plan, as long as they're available!
Thank You so much for sharing
Omg thank you SO much for making this!! I just got my CJO and my family is stationed overseas as well. My mom is based in MSP and was hoping to do be based there and do the in between commute too.

@@JasonGodoy ah yes that would be great!
Wow u ate so pretty
I watched this video in the past and rewatched it again. I'm a flight attendant too, for regional airline base in SLC. I am planning to move abroad I'm a couple of years to retire to. I thought about commuting to try it out while I'm still working. I luv my job and not really ready to retire so working less is my plan try living abroad. I have somewhat seniority in SLC with all the new hires coming in and the senior mama's leaving or transferring out. Thanks for the link to furnish apartment. It will be useful when I start commuting. I thought about trying living in Japan for a year and see how I like it. I was just there in March and I really like it and researching places to live that's not far from the airports. If you can think of any tips or suggestions for me let me know. I'm still researching living abroad. Happy flying
that's awesome. if you don't mind backing up your trips, it's really doable. and if you have the flexibility to drop your trips. IMO Japan is a great place to live so I hope you can test it out! :)
Best roommate I ever had was a french Canadian air-transat stewardess , she was never home and when she was she always brought cheap booze back home from Cuba or Dominican Republic so we could get all liquored up....
lol it's definitely a running joke the every flight attendant has a very specific grocery list for each layover around the world 😆
I’m a flight attendant for the same airline and will be commuting out of Tokyo to MSP for the next three months! How many days before my rotation do you suggest I try to commute in? Does it ever take you more than 3 days to get back to the US?
Oh awesome! I usually just fly in 2 days before. If you are worried about seats avail you can always just book the jump seat too :)
Do you use the Trusted Traveler Program for Japan to make commuting a tiny bit easier?
I do! Global entry makes it so easy to enter the US!
Are you wearing any tights at 4:11? when you were seated, reading a book at the airport
Most US airlines no longer require hosiery with the uniform.
@@Abcdefghijk920 so she's barelegged? It's nice to have that option
Do you have any advice for those afraid of flying? My child is terrified (and I do too!)
Hi! it's great if you tell the crew when you get on board. That way they can communicate with you if there's any expected turbulence or weather so you're not alarmed! If the pilots aren't too busy during boarding, you can sometimes have your child say hi to them, and they should be welcoming and reassuring. FAs should check on you and make sure you're doing ok during the flight. I also tell people to maybe save an episode of their favorite show to watch on the flight to help pass the time easily. Avoid alcohol and perhaps caffeine too since they can add to the anxiety. And what personally helps me, is knowing that it's safer to fly on a plane then get in my car every day. I hope these help! 💙
@@EcoFlightAttendant thank you!
What is your carbon footprint?
my exact footprint? that's extremely difficult to calculate, however flying to get to work is not a choice. However I live my life by trying to reduce my impact as much as possible
@@EcoFlightAttendant Nothing you can do in your life outside of flying can even compensate for even two Mainland - Okinawa roundtrip flights. You know this well. Why do you lie?
