Welcome back to another flight attendant vlog! I traded in flying international, and picked up a domestic trip worth 22hrs. I tried to stay as healthy as possible despite flying so many hours packed in 3 days. In this video you'll see what's in my flight attendant lunch box (being plant-based), how I spent my gloomy San Diego layover, and a fun fact about a previous employer of mine đ«¶đœâïž

We took a day to hike one of Okinawa's more challenging hikes, the Mt Awadake Loop. It was a steep incline, and hits two peaks over looking the ocean in multiple directions. Hiking in Nago comes with some pretty epic views, and always makes for a nice day of adventuring. What a treasure you did to show how wonderful it is to live there. To experience different cultures is wonderful too. Thanks for your service too! Long ago my husband was stationed in Japan.

Hello, a great video and stories. I am always fascinated by the various documentaries of people who climb Everest (and other mountains) and wonder what a thrill that must be. Just started researching an EBC trek and thinking that this would be something I would want to do. Just wondering if you saw any families on the trek or mostly just couples (or maybe just single trekkers)? This would be a great family trip and I have two kids that are 18 and 17 that are in good shape (better than me, for sure). Do you think this is something that they could accomplish? Thanks again for a great video.
Hi! thank you so much. it's hard to say for sure simply because of not knowing how altitude will affect each person, but with that caveat aside, I think it would be doable! I didn't see many families, mainly couples and groups, but if your kids are 17 & 18 and love hiking and roughing it for a bit, they might love it đ
P.S. 3: Do people still catch Semi's from the sides of trees? We would catch them all time and place them in Semi cages for a short time before letting them go. We would use long bamboo sticks split on one end and wrapped in spider webbing to catch the bugs. Strange things you remember.
I definitely have seen kids play with them before! moreso on the quieter outer islands, but it's still a thing đ
P.S. 2: Man, your video certainly brings back very fond, and some scary, memories. Scary due to some adventures I had "playing" on the island while living in Mercy due to finding live ammunition in many caves. When we were there, many caves were not yet explored or closed due to fallout from WWII, so I had some interesting experiences.
wow! there are certainly so many historical places, I can't imagine exploring them back then
P.S. My wife and I returned to visit Japan in 1983 for two weeks, and again we loved every minute with the Japanese people.
it's something so special for sure
Hello from Atascadero, California. THANK YOU for your welcome video! I too lived in Okinawa for four years from 1958 to 1962 when I was in beginning elementary school. Wow! Kadena! My family attended a USAF Thunderbirds show there. My father was in the USAF, assigned to Naha Air Force Base. We all fell in love with that island, with me becoming very fluent in speaking Okinawan, as we lived off-base the first year and I only had Okinawan friends. One of our most favorite places to visit was Okuma, as well as Ishikawa Beach. When we returned to the U.S. in 1962, for years afterwards I would ask Mom and Dad when were we going to move back home (to Okinawa). I had my first girl friend while there, so that was a BIG DEAL for me, which hit me hard when we had to return to the U.S. Once back in the U.S. we were based at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington, then moved to a 4,000 high mountain top on the coast of Oregon, Mt. Hebo, where my father was base commander of Mt. Hebo Radar Station for several years. From there, we moved to Waldport, Oregon, on the Coast, for Dad's retirement, but, unexpectedly, he was extended on assignment to Ankara, Turkey, for about 18 months, during which Mom and I joined him for a year in 1969, but had to leave on an urgent basis due to unrest against Americans. Then back to Oregon for good, where I attended college, then spent about 10 years on nuclear power plant construction in Pennsylvania, then returned to California where I spent the next 35 years working at an operating nuclear power station. I recently retired. Again, many thanks for your great video! đ
thank you for the kind message! sounds like you have an amazing collection of memories there, something I'm surely collecting while living here too. We love Okuma as well and are going in two weeks :) Currently learning Japanese, I wish I could be fluent by the time we leave but it's hard! did you ever keep up with the language? & congrats on your recent retirement, I was born and raised in California & that's a pretty great spot to be too!
I was hoping for a side story of you finding your Okinawan x-girlfriend at the end of this story đ«ąđ
@@budjitresvalles6397 No such luck. I tried many years later on the Internet but was unsuccessful.
Thanks for this vlog. Fly and stay healthy. Cheers.
thank you! you as well! âïž
Dont be surprised if you start having joint pain, fatigue and anxiety from your vegan diet. I will have to unsub cause its too painful to watch a nice young lady ruin her health.đą
Did you know well-planned vegan diets are among the healthiest and can contribute to longevity? Many of the longest-living people in the world live in Blue Zones, where plant-based diets are common. Okinawa is one of them. It's fascinating that my eating preferences, which don't impact you at all, are enough to make you unsubscribe. But hey, to each their own! I wish you all the best on your journey.
I was in the Marines stationed on Okinawa 4 times, at the northern camps. This was in the middle 80's and early 90s. I really enjoyed my time stationed there. Lots to see and do from snorkeling to walking around town outside the air base. Best of times!
certainly two of our favorite things! thank you for your service!
Tysm my beautiful fly sis. Your vlogs and our crew fam always calms me on layovers too. Stay safe. Keep being great đ
Aw ty & I totally agree! Itâs comforting to know so many of us go through the same things! đ

Thank you!
Thank you for sharing đ
Thanks Chelsea! Itâs been a minute đ Fly safe đ«¶đœ
Hello! nice vodeo! what is the watch youre wearing at 19:00? thank you!
Hi! I believe it was a Descent MK1, which was a little overkill but all I had at the time haha. I currently use the Garmin MK2S and love it
Beautiful video! Would you mind sharing which hike you did with the trekking company? Looked at their website and saw they have different options for EBC hikes
Hello! Thank you! It was the 12 day EBC trek
Always remember, Okinawans are not Japanese. They have their own languages and culture. Japanese were war mongers who were responsible for so many Okinawan deaths in WWII.
Oh, cool. I was there literally two months after you in May. I dis the three passes which included Base Camp
wow incredible! hopefully you had a bit warmer weather :)

aww honestly any commute is tough! thank you for the kind words 𫶠fly safe out there!
Love love love those tips!
thank you!!
Thank you for sharing your experience!! It surely motivates someone who wants to go there!
Absolutely! :)
Thanks for the breakdown... luckily you had plans A&B ready to go. And that you didn't have to sit on the jumpseat for such a long flight
I was so glad I planned ahead! And got so lucky with a seat đđœ
My friends and I will be trying to do the trek in a couple of years. Thank you for sharing. Do you have more information on what to clothes to take and what's the best time to go. Thank you.
depends on when you go, but layers are key! the trekking company should provide a full packing list for you too. unsure on best time, March was a little cold for my liking, but best weather usually means more people
Lovely footage †what time of the year did you go ?
what about the noisy military bases in Okinawa?
I lived in Koza City, loved it, especially the beaches and good food.
Thank you for sharing your relaxing morning with us.â€
Nice video! Never been to Okinawa. Thank you!
Thank you, I just got the call that my son-in-laws orders just came in.
Wonderful! I'm sure he'll love it!
Magical place Must visit before life ends
11 years ago, I missed out on what I believe would have been a life changing experience. I got offered by a kind american couple to come as their Au pair in Okinawa to take care of their daughter. They were covering all the fees, would help me get Japanese lessons, my driving licence and even offer me a way back home once or twice a year for a few holidays. Salary was good too. It really was perfect. Everything was going well, until I had to give an answer. I chickened out. I got scared and said I couldn't do it, saying I wanted to stay close to my family â truth to be told, it never was the reason, I literally just got scared. It's probably my biggest regret in life, because they made me discover Okinawa and to this day, I still dream about going there. One day for sure!
As they say in Okinawa âNANKURU NAISAâ what happens is meant to happen. No worries, donât over think it. Everything will be Ok !!!đâïž

Fantastic video-the best Iâve seen on hiking this route. Your open and honest sharing made it not just engaging and enjoyable but also truly helpful to others planning their own treks. Thank you! If you have any advice on shoes/boots, that would be great. Thanks again.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing, and greetings from Canada!

This video was literally a Breath Of Fresh Air!! For someone who is considering moving aboard this might be just what I'm looking for!! A area/ town that offers so much also were as a American you feel a little bit more at home rather than maybe in the mainland as you mentioned!! I'm actually planning my trip to Osaka next spring đ± but after seeing this video I definitely may have to make some changes and get down to Okinawa for sure!! Phenomenal đ„ Video and Thanks again for Sharing and best of luck đ returning back to work!! đ§Ąđ€đđ€đ§Ą

6May2024 ..... Hi there....Thanks for sharin' ..... if you have a chance, can you please share with me all brands that you used in this hike? for example: boots, socks, the layers (outside jacket, sweater etc), poles, tent, sleepin bag, mattress, pants, hat, any other gears. And what time (dates, months, year). What was the temperature from Lukla to Base Camp. How much money (the details) you spent in total in US$. For example: flights, accommodation, food, sherpa, gifts, wifi, simcard , permits fee, etc. Can you also what kind of training did you do & how long the training. I have a plan for next year. It would be appreciated if you share your experience. Have you ever did the 5000m mountain, before doin' this Everest baseccamp? Thanks in advance đ
ur red backpack is 60L or 80 L? đ
Hi! Thanks for watching! I don't have an answer to all your questions but I will do my best with what I do know! boots- Merril Moab 2s socks- People Socks layers- teal sweater by Sherpa (bought in Namche Bazaar), turquoise puffy by Mountain Hardware, and shell by Columbia, but depending on the day I might have been wearing more. backpack- red Osprey 35L I believe (it's packed away rn) and maroon Dueter 45L+10 no tents we were in tea huts/cabins the whole trip. sleeping bag is packed away so dont have details, but make sure it's rated for low temps as the tea houses were pretty chilly. dates are in description. flights were standby so prices wouldn't be accurate. but links are in description to the companies we used who will give an accurate price for the journey which includes food, accommodations, permits, etc we paid to charge some devices as we got higher, which was about $8-12USD. I only trained by going on the stair climber a few times a week, but it wasn't much. I am pretty comfortable hiking/trekking but looking back should have trained with a weighted backpack to build up more stamina. Overall I was fine, just tired after the long days. Nope hadn't done a 5000m mountain before! Hope these help a bit :)
