Killer Whales Attack Bottlenose Dolphin at the Beach in La Jolla!

  • For the second time in less than a month, these Eastern Tropical Pacific Killer Whales successfully hunted a coastal bottlenose dolphin less than 100 yards from the beach in La Jolla, San Diego. While still an incredibly rare sighting for this area, this specific pod has seemingly taken a liking to Southern California this winter. It's unknown if and when this pod will be seen again, but myself and the Gone Whale Watching team will be ready with cameras in hand for when they return!

This is disinformation. Orcas do eat dolphins! We have known that orcas feed on marine mammals for literally thousands of years, hence their ancient name "whale killer". Seriously, all you would need to do to learn the truth is a simple Google search or a quick browse of Wikipedia, so there's no excuse. There are many communities of orcas around the world with their own preferred foods. Some orcas don't eat dolphins, but these ones do. Don't accuse them of being "murderers" when they're just trying to eat; that leads to people demonizing and wishing harm upon them. The Navy used to do target practice on orcas because people like you called them monsters. They are some of the most amazing animals on planet Earth, and without apex predators like them bottlenose dolphins would be overpopulated and deplete fish stocks that other species, such as pinnipeds, rely on. Bottlenose dolphins are awesome too, don't get me wrong, but orcas (which actually are a species of dolphin) are just as important as them.

Killer whales are low-key thugs, aren’t they? Poor dolphin. 😢
Eat shark liver, orcas. Not dolphins. Might be the way of life but it’s still sad.
