He’s played the last two seasons with no injury issues and balled out. He played Bo Nix 3 times in the last 2 seasons. All three times Oregon was the favorite to win. All three times Washington won and Penix threw for more yards and TDs then Nix. Who cares that Atlanta is paying Kirk Cousins. Penix will be on a rookie contract. They can afford both. All teams at some point end up having to play multiple QBs during the season. He doesn’t have to start year one. He gets to learn from a seasoned pro like Kirk and will be the full time starter by the end of his rookie contract.

He threw two picks and his team lost by 20 so kinda average I guess. I think the outcome of the championship game had more to do with how good Michigan has been then how average Michael Penix was.

I like Penix, but the Falcons didn't really need him, especially as a Top 10 pick. The Falcons needed weapons to win NOW, not have someone hold a clipboard unless Kirk breaks down. There are other QBs that could fill that backup role and you get Top 10 talent on defense.

If you have a guy rated as the #2 player in the draft and he drops to you at 8 and you don't expect to be up there again you take him. You know everyone is talking about how great this draft was for offensive players...and it is, but it wasn't a great draft for defensive players and I'm not convinced that in 3-5 years that any defensive player would have had a bigger impact then Penix will have for this team. And everyone talks about "he's good"...no, the dude is a winner and he's got all the talent in the world and he hasn't been hurt for the last 2 seasons.

I don't dislike this pick - without the injury concerns, Penix is a top 3 pick. Give him 2 years to rest up, then promote him to first team. As Belicheck said just a little while ago: "I think they could have traded back and still gotten Penix." Moreover, to me the opportunity cost (getting one of the top three edge rushers) here is HUGE. When this pick was first announced, I was pissed. We desperately need a top tier pass rusher in a bad way. But Penix himself is a great pick, though. Also, look at the 2025 QB draft class. Raheem got his guy. We have the QB of the future that can sit for a couple years. We still need to address the pass rush situation. In my mind, that's our only and main need. Anything else is just bolstering other positions.

Penix is a great pick. The only mistake Atlanta made is paying on old QB fresh off an injury 180M. Kirk isn’t worth that.
