I still can't believe Tom Cruise did this . Awesome
Saw it in theater and had no clue.
First time I saw Tropical Thunder, I didn't realize it was Tom Cruise until the credits rolled.
Best performance of Tom after Top Gun.
He didn't just play him, he came up with and wrote the character! Les Grossman wasn't in the original script.
“I want fat hands and a bald head.” 🤣
Fun fact: A key grip is someone that has to carry and move really heavy equipment like cameras or dollies, so Les knew that guy must have been strong as hell, that's why he asked for a key grip to punch Damian in the face. Loved that little detail.
Well I’ll be damned
It would be the Daisy ring. I had excellent mentors.
thats not the ONLY thing a key grip does tho lol
Thank you!
Strong Bad: How do you key grip in a video game?
That interaction with flaming dragon is one of the best monologues of all time, fair play to Tom Cruise for doing this film.🤣
"..heroin traffickers. One eight of the drug trade in Asia...*huge* profit margin.." Bill Hader is just hilarious..
It's funny I don't like Tom Cruise but I thought he was perfect in this movie. My favourite part is right after he hangs up and says he doesn't negotiate with terrorists! And the applause!
@@n.w.1803 Bill Hader killed it lol
lol fr, tom cruise was very amusing in this movie, he did very great at comedy
@@n.w.1803 Perfect role for him as a nerdy ass kissing assistant, and he was really vibing with Tom!
"We don't negotiate with Terrorists" 😂 😭. That pause to expect everyone's applause 😂
American heroes at their best!
That part always gets me 😂😂
It's the polite golf clap that puts it over the top.
Bill Hader funny asf also
There needs to be a Les Grossman movie.
There is one coming
Him vs Ari Goldman. "LLLLOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYDDDDDDDDDDD!"
To this day I’m saying that!
Listen here mother fxcker there will be one because Asia Jack is my territory
Absolutely
When this movie came out, Stiller was asked how he got Cruise to be in the movie. He stated that Cruise had the demands that he had to have "fat" hands and was allowed to dance. Stiller went, "Um, okay"
Talking about the Star's weird ask vs Tom Cruise's ask
I remember watching that interview, it's on CZcams somewhere. He said he wanted fat hands and to dance and Stiller was hesitant but once Tom got into character with fat hands and danced, Stiller knew it was gold and kept it exactly as Cruise wanted.
Wouldn't have been half the character he was without fat hands and dancing would he though 😂
tom cruise was in this movie because of PR. this was when everybody thought he had ended his career by being crazy on oprah and all the scientology stuff. this was the lowest point of his career, whoever on his team made the call to do this did a great job.
@@jp-sn6si Just looking at his film list for the years before and after his Oprah appearance ... no significant difference. So this isn't a likely theory.
4x movies in 2002
2x movies in 2003
1x movie in 2004
2x movies in 2005 (year of the Oprah Episode.
in 2006 his starred in Mission Impossible 3;
2007 Lions for Lambs and in 2008 Tropic Thunder AND Valkyrie.
Tom was still actively involved in projects before and after. It may have been a bit of a PR shitshow for a few weeks/months, but was nowhere near enough to kill his career in the slightest.
This best character Tom Cruise has ever played in his career
Agreed!!
💯%
IMHO it was Vincent the assassin in Collateral.
@@mickkollins Yes! Les #2.
"Could you, uh, find out who that was?" gets me every time
Such a great line after all the abuse 🤣
For me it's the "we don't negotiate with terrorists" line that gets me
That actor is called Tom Cruise.
Matthew McConaughey's face expression with the dance is priceless... XD
The real question is...how many takes did it take without him dying laughing?
I like to think they didn't put this in his script and that was his genuine reaction.
@@VaderPopsVicodin10 I'm here for all of that.
Mcconaughey deserves an Oscar for keeping his face straight during that’s dance scene. Wonder how many takes that took?
yeah he's a great face actor.
I remember catching this movie in theater and having no idea that Les Grossman was Tom Cruise until that ending scene. Half of the theater gasped and didn't realize it was either. It was just such an awesome curveball.
I couldn't tell rdj was the black guy , but I could tell that was tom. How could I not
I can't understand how anyone couldn't tell that was Tom Cruise. He has such a distinctive vocal style.
@@adiloren13 I KNOW! But that is still the case for me!
His face was clearly Tom Cruise, his voice was clearly Tom Cruise, BUT I STILL SURPRISED once the ending revealed that Les Grossman is Tom Cruise! God, how could I miss that??
@@chris-wt7ol you and OP are both daft apparently.
@@advancedomega Yup I was the same. Watching this clip is was clear as day as soon as he opened his mouth, but for some reason, complete blindspot at the time lol
“We’ll weep for him…in the press” 😂
A G5 and A LOT OF CASH,hmmmmmm......... a conundrum?
That's what I'm reminded me of whenever a douchebag says something like "thoughts and prayers".
Bill Hader's role in this needs more love.
Highly underrated performance. His comedic chemistry with Cruise was excellent.
Smack it up, flip it, rub it down, ooooh
Why? Even a nutless monkey could play that role.
Welcome to the goodie room!
Swinging past your knees! 😂😂😂😂
One of the most underrated comedies of All-Time! 🤣
This came out when I was 4
Do you know what underrated means? It definitely doesn't mean an Oscar nominated movie.
@@gunnonbass2052
Hey moron, just because it was nominated for an Oscar doesn’t mean it wasn’t ALSO underrated. It doesn’t get enough love or adoration & that’s the ENTIRE point of it being “underrated”. Try an keep up… 😉🤦🏼♂️
underated but true....bitchs
@@gunnonbass2052 😄😄😄
Tom Cruise’s blank stare after Matthew says they’re gonna kill him sends me every time
The side shown, face to face with pecker and les was classic. One giant head and a peanut head.
@@abc123thenwhat And the way he says, "yeeeesss", when Peck says , "A G5 airplane". 😂
That got me too, absolute gold.
Murders me. He also does it during one of the video conferences with the film crew. Cruise projected these hilarious quirks to show how hard-hearted this guy was LOL
And.......
Les Grossman needs to come back in another comedy. The Character is too solid to let it die with one movie.
He did look up cassidy Campbell less grossman
@@freelanceappalachia7029 are you f-ing serious ???
@@Induceveover 9000 percent serious
@@freelanceappalachia7029 that Cassidy due has nothing to do with Les Grossman
@@Induceve yes it does he made less grossman videos
It’s Tom’s best performance ever. Nothing compares. It’s literally impossible not to burst into tears laughing watching this.
Lmao nah he's amazing in Collateral but damn this is good
@@jimbeam2299Ahhhh yes I’d have to Concur, collateral is probably watched once a month by me, insane movie and great acting.
@@jimbeam2299so happy someone else said this, Collateral is one of his best roles. Honestly, when he doesn’t play “himself” (like Mission Impossible or any other action movies) he shows his range.
Nah, he is good here, in collateral, interview with vampire as he is in a lot of great movies...but his role in Magnolia was breathtaking and he demontrated a VERY wide range in only one complex character, Magnolia is such a sad and beautiful movie with a great cast of legends like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Juliette Lewis and everyone gave 200% the perfect acting.
I find quite sad that nowaday he does only action roles as he is a really talented actor who can handle more dramatic and deep scripts.
Not a big fan of Tom Cruise, never been. Then I remember his FLAWLESS part in Magnolia and this, top notch performances
For all of Tom Cruise’s action films and phenomenal stunt work, he really has a knack for comedy. He really needs to do more comedies!
Tom in this movie could simply could be himself. Tom is total psycho in real life like Les grossman.
@@wesleyc8101 i just found out it was tom cruise after all these years lol
Less Grossman is so outside of Toms normal that it’s hilarious. Every scene he is in he steals.
Tom cruise and Bill Hader dancing perfectly represent my last two brain cells whenever I try to do anything important
that alone was funnier than the movie
Cruise was unbelievable in this role. Tropic Thunder is a GREAT movie, very overlooked and unappreciated. Great humor scenes, great acting.
Edit: for those who replied this comment in anger or entitlement, please, I beg you, pretty please: go finish high school already.
No.
It's not overlooked nor underappreciated. It was a box office smash and, along with Iron Man, the resurrection of RDJ career.👍
@@bluecollar825 Movie cost 92 millions to make and made 110 millions in the US to date. From those 110 millions, 25 were from the opening day. Meaning, it took 15 years to make the extra 85 million just to cover the expenses. No, it wasn't a "box office smash" and it was (and still is) a very unappreciated movie in the US. But hey, thanks for your comment!
@@mentalizatelo can't believe you looked that up.🤣🤦♂️
Agree to disagree. This movie will go down as a comedy classic. 🤝
@@bluecollar825 ☮
Overlooked and unappreciated by whom exactly?
Tom Cruise has always brought his AAA game. Even though Les Grossman is a character; I believe Cruise is that intense, every second, of every day.
He's a total freak show, as are all other great actors. I think that's what makes them great actors.
@@rudyschwab7709Exactly this. He's one of the all time great actors and lunatics.
Faxts
I think he is... but in a good way.
All the actors that work with him have nothing but good things to say about him, and you can tell it's not just PR bullshit.
Watch him being interviewed when there are other guests on a show; he's focused and engaged on whatever they say, genuinely laughing when they tell jokes etc.
It's like he's intensely studied how to be friendly and charming, probably to compensate for it not being completely natural to him or something.
In my opinion and no disrespect to Tom Cruise, this is for me one of the most iconic Tom Cruise characters. I have a family member that looks exactly like Les grossman and what shocked me is that he has the same character as Les Grossman, same dance moves and everything, the movie is 🔥 and will always be one of my fav comedy movies of all time. Unfunny people trying to cancel it unfortunately
Tom Cruise should have got an Oscar for this performance.
The fact Tom Cruise DEMANDED Les had to have fat hands or he wouldn't take the role is hilarious.
i mean, it adds a lot lol
no on talks bout Fat hands, one of thing thing i first noticed.
"A hobos dick's cheese."
Gets me every time 😂🤣
Great band name
We want a movie of Less Grossman
omg YESS
More Less?
No, we want More Grossman!
It should be called “scorched earth” the “the binding resolution” 😂
the flaming dragon's guy reaction at 3:31 might be the funniest part of the movie to me
I totally agree 😂
😂😂😂
He played police officer Wu
In the TV super natural show
Grimm
Collateral and Tropic Thunder are two movies where Tom Cruise brought out his talent for two completely different roles. I really admire his acting prowess.
Dude the crazy thing about Tom Cruise is even if you want to hate him for all the sins of Scientology, you almost just can’t because he goes and does something solid gold like this or makes an epic movie one after the other. Got to hand it to him, this was comedy gold.
😅😅😅 totally
Yep, one of those people you hate to love. He's a god damn force of nature
In all his long career, this is Tom at his best
No.
phenomenal acting
Nah that would be his roles in A FEW GOOD MEN, MAGNOLIA and his best yet in COLLATERAL.
I didn’t realise it was him until the credits went up. He’s the best thing in the movie and it’s a decent movie.
Same..even more funny
Dude. Same. This movie is more than decent. It's a classic.
I didnt believe it until i googled it
Tom Cruise is such a big name and world famous actor that the fact they kept his role a secret and he wasn't in the promotions for the movie or the opening credits definitely made it easy for people to not immediately recognize him. If you did recognize him while seeing the movie for the first time in theaters there would definitely also be part of you thinking "that can't be Cruise, it has got to be a different actor" because of the bald head, fat body, and the character being so different than his typical roles.
@@EnglishTimewithMrChrisI was such a person. Recognised his voice in that first scene. It bugged me until the negotiations when I was just solidly concentrating on his face to work out who it was. Realised I thought it was him but just couldn't be sure. Then it came up at the end. Became an instant classic movie character.
I swear this is the most Oscar worthy performance i've ever seen
Right?? How can you create a character that is an horrible human being yet no one can hate him? Tom Cruise did the perfect job here
The dumb expression on McConaughey's face was one of the funniest parts of this movie. It was great how he and Cruise played off of each other. 😆🤣
Les Grossman (BEST MOMENTS) - literally all the moments with him
This character is an utterly horrible human being. He is awesome.
lol he’s literally Satan, it’s the best. 🤣
Tom Cruise was freaking hilarious 😂, I’m still waiting for a film entirely about this character Les Grossman!!! That was one of the best Tom Cruise roles ever 💪🏻💯
This is Tom Cruise’s best role🤣 The perfect character, they should’ve made a spin off with his character!
The film is Greenlit
i agree. Tom needs to do something completely out of charecter and off the wall , preferably like Les, unnoticeable till the end.
"welcome to the goodie room".....classic
Swingin past your KNEEEES
Had no idea it was Tom Cruise until I saw credits rolling. 😲 I was mesmerized.
One last thing... Tom, would make a great crime boss. This must have been so much fun for him....
You need to see Collateral
I saw Tom Cruise at the end and was like "was there a cameo I didn't notice? 😂😂😂
Lol I loved that his best moments were all his scenes in the movie. So true!
You can see Cruise is having the time of his life with this movie, so much that he brings a relly AAA game into character. Amazing! i love it.
think about it. Tom's private life gives him no outlet. he was probly giving us a look at how he see's the buisness. probly more truth in the charector than it seem's.
McConaughey's face when Grossman rips into the flaming dragon guy is priceless too. It's like "I want to say something but I'm kind of afraid to and that was NOT how I expected this to go."
The blank stare at 5:21 is menacing. Very good performance from les the entire movie
the uplighting to make the angry eyebrow shadows from the glasses is my favorite part
This is what i thinking about.
Somebody please make this clip a meme
More like psychotic
Yup, watched 2 times in a row, ran out of tissue.😂
He looks like a possessed Thunderbirds puppet.
This is seriously some of his best acting ever. He went so over the top, it was amazing. Truly outside of his normal roles, and he absolutely killed it!
His dancing at the end had me dying lol
One of the GOAT actors in Hollywood in his best role. Dancing at the end. You could tell how much he loved it.
I didn't realize for a long time that was Tom Cruise. He really needs to do more comedies because he's got comedic chops.
Les Grossman an iconic character. Classic.
Bill Hader is one of the most underrated funny actors out there
Except that "comedy" with Amy Schumer
"Welcome to the goodie room" & "Swinging past your knees!" Always kills me☠️
@@LOTHRIX17beat me to it
"Welcome to the goodie rooooom" 😂
After watching these clips I’m convinced there needs to be spin-off with Cruise, Hader, and McConaughey.
If Les Grossman had a brother, It would’ve been played by Sam Rockwell
This is the greatest thing Stiller and Cruise have ever done in their entire careers.
There needs to be a sequel to this masterpiece
Full disclaimer: I watched the whole movie the first time in theaters wondering who that was. I LITERALLY had no idea it was Tom Cruise. I was thinking "he sounds kinda like Tom Cruise, but that can't be him"
Great work👍 also thought of the irony at 6:01 of 2 former sexiest man alive winners talking about a 1998 3rd runner up😎
Despite all the amazing movies Tom Cruise has done, and all the awesome characters he has played, Les Grossman has to be one of the best if not _the_ best he's ever brought to life on the screen. The entire G5 scene is pure comedy gold, Cruise nails it.
Tom Cruise's best role
Tom deserves all the hype he gets as an action hero, but he's painfully underrated as a character actor.
One of the only movies I’ve seen Tom Cruise star in and he doesn’t do any running
DiCrapio could NEVER do that.
Hehehe, trying to imagine him saying the lines.
@@danzydan2479 He did in The Wolf of Wall Street
Leo literally did a character like this...even crazier in Wolf of Wall Street
3:53 that look they all have always kills me 🤣

the UN binding resolution monologue still slaps me after all these years.
His best performance ever. Tropic Thunder would never had succeeded without him.
Not a Tom Cruise fan tbh, but i have to admit, he completely nailed that role, hats off
I honestly wish there would be a sequel !
Exact thought I had....Pure gold
😅😂😊
The giant hands and the black hole part...😆😆😆
Les Grossman's best moments were essentially all of his moments in the movie lol
The best Lex Grossman moments: all of them. I think Bill Hader was the perfect sidekick. His timing was perfection. Cruise...is simply the master blaster.
Cruise was hilariously brutal in this film! "A nutless monkey could do your job... Seriously, a nutless monkey could do your job."
Hader replies, "Good"
I know the type
Its the switch from playful pal to intense serial killer focus, so good
i think this character was based on the late Don Simpson. Don would do several lines of coke, drink a stiff drink, and then call up some poor writer working for him and just demolish the guy.
Tom Cruise was amazing funny here and he is also a great showmen and dancer you can see
He should have gotten an Oscar.
You know who won that year? Heath Ledger. Tom never stood a chance.
Anything with this movie never had a chance cuz it's one of the best phobic everything movies ever.
@@RW-zh7klI'm as progressive as they come. This movie is the pinnacle of comedy. Especially with Tom Cruise's role as Les. This breaks the 4th wall and beyond. This is his BEST role. Bar none. I'll work out the PC deets. It's controversial but it genuinely works with modern comedy
Every moment Les is on the screen is his Best moment.
I love how when everyone is doing research on Flaming Dragon, Les is just reading Maxim
I am Fwaming Dwagon! These are my poppy fields! 😆🤣
"Ben listen, I want fat hands and I want to dance."
Tom Cruise.
Les Grosses Mains is "the fat hands" in French
Every Les Grossman moment is the best moment.
Roles like this show just how good of an actor he is. Like him or not he's an amazing artist
I would have loved to see a whole movie about him only
😃
Just for this performance, he should have received an academy award. we need a Les Grossman spinoff
All I can remember bout that film is Tom Cruise as Les Grossman. One of Tom's best roles ever.
1:45 to 2:08 always kills me 😂😂😂😂
Les Grossman needs to keep dropping in movies. Fuq 'em up, Les.
he needs to be like Tyler Perry’s Madeams movies. The plot ain’t gotta be tight and well written just put Les in everyday predicaments and have him exploding on film every few months.
The sound the dude in the background makes when Les throws the diet coke at him is fucking underratedly hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I don't know if that stands as a "cameo"... but if it does, it certainly is one of the best cameos ever! Amazing!!!
I still can't believe how epic this whole movie was. There will never ever be another one like it.
Tom Cruise hits it best role ever
The dancing scene is still one of the funniest ever
“Swangin past your knees”! Lol
My favorite thing Tom Cruise has done. I’m not a big fan of this but this character he did was Gold
He’s crazy AF but boy is he a talented actor.
In some ways, it's the most brilliant thing that Tom Cruise ever did. He had a lot of ideas about how the character should look. He insisted, big fat hands. He was very strong on it... absolutely wouldn't budge on it. Good intuition.
This movie is awesome. I can watch it over and over and still find things I missed.
All time great comedy. Sooo underrated. Everything damn character is just wow. With a sprinkle of Tom cruise in that role. INSANE!!
This is Tom Cruise's best performance and nobody can convince me otherwise
Les Grossman's BEST moments????? Any scene with Les Grossman IS he's best moment.
Should have won an Oscar for this role😁
I haven't heard so many legendary lines since maybe Spaceballs. So many great characters. Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise I think came out on top!
I can’t stop watching this. It’s been over 10 years. And I keep watching this movie and I keep watching all the clips. The funniest movie ever. And I’ll say it out loud man Tom Cruise killed it. Brilliant comic performance.
Is it me or did McConaughey look like he wanted to burst out laughing when Grossman started dancing?
We need more Grossman. This is really hilarious, and then comes the dance
Cruise has played the greatest fighter pilot.. the greatest nascar driver.. the greatest pool player, and even the greatest sports agent. He’s been the best secret agent and even the best Irish immigrant to ever settle the plains. But Les Grossman hands down is the greatest role he has ever taken. Greatest all time.. all time. Lol
Saw this in the theater and was shocked to see the credits. Had no idea it was Cruise. That made it even better and made me laugh even more.
