It looks pretty much the same, with the exception of some subtle hardware changes/tweaks and the implementation of the slightly newer iPhone 11 series A13 chip. Even with this said, how does it stack up to last years iPad 8th generation with A12? In this video I briefly go over the notable hardware changes and then perform an in-depth, comprehensive performance test in order to help you decide which model you should get, whether you should upgrade or stay put!

the big difference is the 64GB base storage, because paying the 128GB difference with the cover and Apple Pencil is enough to get the iPad Air
But then, with the iPad Air, you still have to top up money to purchase the Apple Pencil and cover.

Am I the only one noticing how good colors look in the iPad 9 gen? Red, black and other color looks way more accurate than in gen 8. It seems ipad 9 is much better for photo editing.

That background is looking super sharp with really good lighting.
The memory storage increase also allows them to provide support without a huge limit to storage. 32gb is pushing the capacity of storing very lite apps to supporting the system software. It’s also a hard sell a 32gb vs a 64gb.

I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

I am glad to hear to that the base model on the iPad 9 gen gets 64g of storage and tru tone. I haven’t even had my iPad 8 gen for 6 months yet. I am purchasing it through my mobile carrier on a 2 year payment plan.New changes on the iPad 9 gen enough to run out and get it? No.
I have the 8th gen and honestly it’s pretty much amazing! It’s really good for students on a budget and i like the quality, for note-taking (which is primarily what I got it for). I recommend!

The best test I found for these that REALLY shows the difference is my real world situation. Opening reddit (business sub for me) and scrolling down to bring about 3 pages worth of content (i know it scrolls infinitely but just go with it), and clicking a link to bring the the floating page, while having note open on the side (multitask) with two pages worth of content pasted on (links and pictures and lots of text). The 8th slows down and even crashed (Gets stuck makes home button unresponsive) the know will slow but with much more content. Writing a business plan for a non-profit was a headache and i had to go to the desktop…

Here's the thing. iOS doesn't take a great deal of hardware to run it. That's shown by the fact way older iPads still work well. The 8th and 9th gen iPads are different on paper that's obvious. However both devices are way more powerful than what's needed to run iOS and most apps. Because of this neither will be faster on opening apps etc. Like you say it's which ever one grabs the internet quicker. You'll see difference on the likes of higher end games and benchmark software.

The main difference is at @26:00 where I think 9th gen clearly outperforms 8th gen, that is in high graphics gaming. For the rest they are almost the same. Even camera improvement is not that significant even though on paper though it is a big bump.
Yeah I agree the loading times were EXTREMELY similar ,unless your playing a gpu hungry game or editing video they are exactly the same despite the 64gig starting size,better wide selfie camera,True Tone. Not a deal breaker at all the iPad 8 is a BEASTTTT
@@MoNeYMlKE420 as someone who transition from iPad 8 to 9, can confirm. Playing things like RL: Sideswipe or Cod mobile take around the same time to load, but the 9 has amazing performance compared to my 8. Also, I like to edit videos, and I really can see a difference. My 9 can handle a lot more overlays, text, filters, etc. without lagging than my 8 did.

They should make the ipad 8 10/12 mp for camera last year and only add central stage for this year since last year was online learning and they gave us 1.2 mp camera😕

I think its understandable that it opens more quick in the 8th gen i mean its just a second or two and one more thing is apple's chipset is design to optimise background apps so you dont have to close the app and as you can see in the ipad 9th gen, if the app is open you can hover to different pages faster.

I bought the iPad 8th generation 4 months ago but I really needed it, otherwise I would’ve waited for the 9th generation
Unless you want Center Stage (which while cool, realisticly, isn't that big of deal, unless you do a lot of conferences calls), you really aren't going to see much difference between the two. I've been playing with my friend's 7th Gen and it runs beautifully and seamlessly too. Apple does a fantastic job with their software to hardware optimization. I'm a proud Android user, but I've got to give it to Apple for that. It's why I'm choosing their tablet over Samsung :-)

The IPad is one of the best deals in tech. I have one in each of my rooms for smart home. Ive given them to a lot of people as gifts, and i have a few for gaming when friends come over. They’re powerful and get the job done. I actually prefer the old design as its cheap and easy to repair.

Please do test of LumaFusion with external ssd connected to the lightning port with 1080 and 4k video editing (from ssd not internal storage)
Lightning is limited to 480mbps, the theoretical maximum of USB 2.0. 4k video editing would most likely not be possible over USB 2.0, but I would think you could transfer over videos [to your internal storage] while you edit them, and then transfer the exported result back to your external SSD when done.
Mind you if you really do want fast speeds while editing you should probably just get a 256gb model if you really want to be doing video editing constantly.
Editing video on my ‘old’ 128gb 6th gen I ran out of storage after a while, but I made sure to get a 256gb 9th gen this tine.

5 years. I have a 6th Gen iPad which is 3 years old and functions perfectly. My uncle has the iPad 4th Gen (2012-13) and that is perfect for consumption. My advice would be to buy the higher storage (256 GB) if possible as that is the only limiting factor in the long run. The support by Apple is amazing.
