"Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo" is a popular song with music by Bronislau Kaper (Polish), and lyrics by Helen Deutsch. The song was published in 1952. The song was featured in the movie Lili starring Leslie Caron.

@@ndoroso The melody, tempo and accordion accompaniment are an example of German "oompah" music. A species of folk "schmalz," if you will; a waltz to melt popular sentiments into.

George Noory on Coast to Coast AM started to play this on his show tonight and just before the song broke into the "Hi Lili, Hi Lili, Hi Lo, Hi Lo" lyrics I turned off the radio because the vibe wasn't right but then something hit me and I turned on the radio and "Hi Lili, Hi Lili, Hi Lo, Hi Lo" was in full bloom and brought back a flood of fond memories. I remember seeing this movie "Lili" starring the beautiful Leslie Caron as a kid with my family in two parts on a short lived TV series called "Off To See The Wizard" back in 1967-1968 season. Also remember Kurt Kasznar in this film (soon to be co-star of "Land Of The Giants"). Thanks for the memories George and thank you for posting Nelson.

First movie I ever seen. I was only five years old. I was fascinated though I could not understand the story. It is spoken in English. There was subtitles but I could not read yet. No problem. I loved it so much.

At that time, parents would probably think that being a film with puppets, it was for children. Nothing more far than that. It is actually an adult movie, not appropriated for children.

There are so many replies from people who remember this song from when they were maybe 5-7 years old (myself included, Age 6) that it must truly be magical. The main reason, I believe is the magic of Leslie Caron. I wonder how many little boys wished they were big boys so they could sing Hi Lily to her.

I first heard this song when I was eleven, @ a cinema in Bowral in the Southern Highlands, NSW Australia.
When I was nineteen I played Ondine I the first live theatre to be created in 26 years. (Sydney, Aus.)
Leslie played the same character, as did Audrey Hepburn & Dame Margot Fonteyn the dance version.
