Classical Dance at Brihadeeswarar Temple, Thanjavur

- On our visit to the Thanjavur Brihadeeswarar Temple (27 Jan 2012), we got an opportunity to witness this dance troupe performing Bharathanatyam. It was a hot, sunny noon and we were having trouble walking barefoot. Full credits to these dancers who so passionately and expressively performed under that hot sun, and made us too forget the burns. We were so lucky to witness their amazing performance... :)
How fortunate these young dancers are to offer their devotional service to a Lord Nataraja Swamy at this ani isn’t temple. Beautiful offerings. Wonderful artistry. 🙏

எனக்கு நன்றாக நினைவிருக்கிறது ராஜராஜ சோழன் கட்டிய அந்த கோவிலில் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கட்டியதற்காக
கருணாநிதியின் ஆட்சி என்பது விழா எடுத்தார்கள் அதற்கு கருணாநிதியும் கலந்து கொண்டார்
அப்பொழுது அந்த விழாவில் நடன கலைஞர்களை ஒருங்கிணைத்த நடன கலைஞர் பத்மாசுப்ரமணியம் அவர்கள் ஒரு கோரிக்கை வைத்தார்.
இங்கே கோவிலில் எங்கேயாவது ஒரு ஓரத்தில் இந்த குறிப்பிட்ட வருடத்தில் ஒரே நேரத்தில் ஆயிரம் கலைஞர்கள் சேர்ந்து நடனம் ஆடினார்கள் என்கின்ற ஒரு கல்வெட்டை வைக்க வேண்டும் இது ஏனென்றால் அதற்கு அவர் சொன்ன நியாயமான காரணம்,
இன்னும் ஒரு ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து ஆஹா 2000 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு கட்டப்பட்ட கோவிலில் சென்ற ஆயிரம் ஆண்டில் ஒரு விழா எடுத்து இருக்கிறார்கள் நாமும் இந்த ஆயிரம் ஆவது ஆண்டில் அது போல ஒரு விழா நடத்த வேண்டும் என்று அப்பொழுது வரக்கூடிய தமிழர்களுக்கு தோன்ற வேண்டும் என்று சொன்னார்.
இத்தனைக்கும் அவர் தனக்கு பதவி வேண்டும் புகழ் வேண்டும் என்றெல்லாம் கேட்கவில்லை
ஒரு சாதாரண அல்ப கோரிக்கையை கூட கருணாநிதி நிறைவேற்ற வில்லை
இதே நடன கலைஞர் பத்மா சுப்ரமணியம் திமுகவில் சேர்ந்திருந்து காரித்துப்பினால் துடைத்துக் கொள்வேன் என்று சொல்லி இருந்தால் அறிஞர் அண்ணா விருது அவருக்காவது கிடைத்திருக்கும்
இது போன்ற கலைகள் தான் உடல்நலம் காத்தது என்றாள் மிகையாகாது

Feeling fortunate I went to this temple I
2times..a hidden vibration orbited the premises which I love ❤️ India is rich in its heritage and culture Proud to be an Indian 🇮🇳
I leant this dance form with same steps around 20 year back ..... Its beautiful reminded of those day.

Lets say ,we go to State minister house - we do not go empty handed. Some gift /bouquet.
When Stepping into Temple, its a good practise, you offer something tha you can.
Food donations /some coins in temple hundi /flowers / if you can sing - offer prayer loudly/if you can dance - offer it. Nobody to STOP you,
By the way- This dance was the best synchronous dance. Everyone were in Sync. GREAT practise and passion, can only display get a dance
Bharatha natyam born before 2000 years ago in tamilnadu and all classical dances evolved from bharatha natyam love from telangana
It is the oldest dance form in the world.
Bharatnatyam is a form of Bhakti of Mahadev.... it's so peaceful to watch..... Even the hot blazing sun does not hinder the performance of these dancers..... They are so graceful.

Hm...Allarippu created by the Thanjavur Quartet but not this way its the usual mass produced thing, the precision and all signature features lost forever, solkattoes goes to fast to exiting, good for a bollywood movie and this is performed at the magnificent Bhrahadesvarar temple which was a one of the centres of arts! And its of course nothing to do with the dancers they are exposed to this noisy misra Allarippu! Thank God there are still a few whom have kept the greatness of the Art of the Thanjavur Quartet Paramparai!

I know what that is like dancing on hot surfaces. Once me and my fellow dancers danced very briefly on sheet metal. Basically the venue that wanted us to perform didnt know that Indian dancers danced barefoot :(

I have had this same experience. we got down form the stage of metal sheet and dance on the tar road as it was a tiny bit better than the stage.
