Took me years to fully get Billy’s playing. It’s light and beautiful, like walking with the feet in the air, levitating. That ride cymbal beat is one of a kind. Master.

Billy Higgins’ touch is a complete mystery. He seems to dig in, but his cymbal barely wobbles, ans the sound on the drums is so light

Laurent Barbieri i think it’s cause hes apparently using nylon tip sticks for better projection(?)

Laurent Barbieri, I've noticed this as well! Generally speaking his volume is soft, but if you look at his stick height, he has a long throw! The only thing I can figure is that he always used a heavier ride cymbal and ?he places the stick closer to the bell than normal? Also, he seems to dead stick the shoulder shanks.

Listen the lines of Ron Carter behind Herbie... Pure class. Never repeat himself. Great technique and influence of Miles. Ron Carter is a musician.

George Coleman has been, and still is my greatest influence. His Amsterdam After Dark album is a masterpiece. Ive been trying to get his sound for more than 30 years.....not giving up yet.. probably .die 1st. You can hear GC in Eric Alexanders' playing.....

Dig the circular breathing by George in the first tune...Like Roland Kirk..could hold a note or a series of notes for as long as he wishes...Roland Kirk would sometimes make an uninterrupted run for several minutes/all recirculated air through his nose and lungs

@applejuice5635 he mentions it in his changing time doc in the scene where he's at his old house. He has the ride cymbal that Billy used and was in 100's of jazz records
