  • Played Disciples 2 gold edition a lot way back in the day, and thought I'd make a beginner's guide to help anyone new to the game! Thanks to Mister Sinister for writing up some gameplay guides many years ago: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/9262...

One thing you forget to mention about army is that initiating combat will consume half of the attacker's maximum movement point. Like if the attacker has 20 movement point per turn, take 3 flags on regular terrain and then fight, then it'll have 20 - 6 - 10 = 4 movement points left after the combat. So even in the best case scenario, one army can only attack twice per turn, barring other modifiers like spells that restore movement points.
This can be abused to delay the enemy's attacks, like the 3rd and final level of Empire Saga in vanilla Disciples 2 where the enemy will move to attack one objective that you must defend. If you killed all their escorting armies, you'll only need two thieves and/or summons at the choke point to completely halt their advance as they will spend all their movement points on said thieves/summons and waste the entire turn. Rinse and repeat while your main army runs around the map gathering gears and levels until you think you're ready to beat them.
Speaking of thieves and overworld spells; Thieves' poison ability and damage spells are probably the most powerful asset in army vs army fights. But the trick is that *you must poison the enemy first before firing the spells at them* as the damage from Thieves' poison army/city is a percentage of enemy unit's maximum health at around 20% per successful poison, but the catch is Thieves' poison can only reduce the enemy's health down to around 50 - 45% of their maximum health, after which this ability won't do anything anymore.
Hence the reason why you should poison enemy army first before firing damage spells at them - for maximum effect. And on that note, Capital Guardians are immune to thieve' poison, so don't waste it on the capital unless they're accompanied by other flunkies, which are not immune to it.

@@pxlpedia Also, after searching around, the Difficulty setting in Disciples 2 only influence human player's starting resources (gold, mana, potions, for example.) and how much cheats the AI receive. The AI isn't getting smarter with difficulty, they only get more resources and cheats, whilst the player is deprived of resources at the beginning of the match.
To be more precise: AI gets more gold and mana, which means they gets more armies and can spam spells. And all their units gets free exp every turn and will eventually evolved into higher tier units without needs to fight neutral armies or construct prerequisite buildings. Hence they're more aggressive as their armies are stronger than the player on higher difficulties.
However, the exp cheat can be nullified by dispelling fog of war; If the AI armies are visible to the player, said armies will not get free exp or free evolution. So Tier 5 spells that de-fog the whole map, or the lower tier spells that de-fog a region can be used to nullify their cheating to an extent.

Army for each faction i build
      Empire 2 AOE Healers
Legion 1 Incubus ( 71% stunlock chance before buffs )
      Dwarfs 2 Son's Of Yrmir
Undead 1 lvl locked tier 2 shade ( 76% Stunlock chance before buffs , you do not want the Tier 3 shade its AOE attack has bad hit chance )
      Elfs 2 AOE healers.
Those are the units for each faction you need to take down a Enemy Capital with the least amount of limited buffs. Humans and Elfs just out heal the damage. Legion and Undead stun lock the guardian. Dwarfs just out DPS the Guardian with Frostbite , though most of your other units will die unless massively buffed. Add what ever else you want to the groups but those are the units you want for easy game.

I'm very glad people still play this game. I just finished my last campaign a few months ago, which was the undead hordes one and was the second easiest campaign I played (the easiest was legion of the damned and the hardest was the mountain clans one). I managed to kill around 3 capital guardians throughout the campaign, because paralysis in this game is just broken.

I have spent countless hours making maps and stuff for this game, AI absolutely sucks and making the game entertaining tho. They're either too strong at the beginning to attack because of the xp boost they get, then the minute you can beat their main troop they are grossly underpowered. I wish I could play online with people. It would definitely change the game dynamic

Man, I love this game. I had it on a CD when I was a kid, but recently got it on Steam for some good nostalgia vibes. Unfortunately, when I start a quest that uses a very large map (144x144), the game just crashes to desktop at end turn. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

playing saga as undead guildmaster atm. so fun, tossing melee guys in back line with super thief's messed orders xD, and havin like 3 ghosts sit on whatever is left in front line till nosferatu tank bleeds them dry hehe. However, i cant figure out whats that thief thing when they place neutral towns in riot. Nothing in manual about that. At first i though riot removes town armor bonus off defenders but after attacking rioted town defenders still had bonus. Any ideas?

    • @pxlpedia
      @pxlpedia  Před 2 lety

Good question, I believe that when riots are incited in a city any units stationed don't regenerate health and new units can't be recruited in the affected city. Also yeah Nosferatu gets so OP later on after levelling up, and I love having the thief mess up the enemy's party order lol

    • @machaiping

For Undead Horde I usually use Lich Queen in the Saga because the Undead roster has only Physical or Death damage, and IIRC there's one level in Undead Saga that pits you against a Boss with Physical and Death Immunity, rendering your entire roster useless except the Lich Queen who deal Fire damage.
Level 1 Lich Queen recruited in that level for this specific boss probably get me past them if there's no snipers to snipe them out before getting to work on said boss, but as I don't know, so better safe than sorry I'd say, even if I never get to that level... heh. Probably because trying to pimp Lich Queen...

To everyone wondering about the lock unit option. It's been a mystery for me for years, but finally I see it's usefulness. If you lock a character and it levels up without upgrading, (for instance a lvl 1 squire not turning into a witch hunter at lvl 2). A lvl 2 squire will level up to level 3 faster than a witch hunter will to level 3 I believe, thus by postponing a units upgrade a level or two, by the end of the level a unit will be higher level.
