How much does Paint Protection Film and Ceramic Coating cost?

- After having PPF for a couple months on most of my Tesla Model Y, I decided to finish it off and PPF the rear end to complete the car. On top of the Paint Protection Film, I also got Ceramic Coating done on the whole car, wheels and brake calipers. In this video, I walk you through the options and price breakdown.

The Model Y wasn't expensive, but the PPF or ceramic coating took it to another level. Seriously, people invest a significant amount of money in protection.
Why
Hi there I watched your video sometime in October before my Model Y Performance was delivered. Just want to let know that I learned a lot and it was very helpful. Kevin and his crew at the Elite Finish were awesome 👏!
Thanks so much for the complete breakdown!
I did my own paint protection and ceramic coating. It took me two days to complete.
How’s it look?
For some people that is $3k in lost productivity.
Thanks for letting us see the process and the prices.
@TeslaoftheDay Dropping my MYP off today for front ppf and ceramic. now actually considering full ppf. Thanks for the videos.
Picked up my yesterday. Looking shiny.
Price in my county for the same stuff and material: 1600 eur. For the whole car. Respraying the front bumper: 250 euro. New genuine front bumper in white (painted my tesla): 950+ tax. I rather get a ne bumper every 2 years. Those prices are ludicrous. Not sensible. Not in any way.
Great video, I have an auto shop in the bay area and I quote my customers based on material and labor, I prefer to use suntek xpel and solar guard but there are plenty of products out there.
Tesla is now offering a complete PPF package for $5,500, which I noticed on my app yesterday under the accessories section. I had mine done for $4,500 in Arlington, TX. It provides peace of mind, although it may seem like overkill. In the past, I've only applied PPF around the door handles on my previous cars, but for some reason, I felt compelled to fully PPF my Tesla. Perhaps it's because the Tesla looks more delicate compared to my previous vehicles. Anyway, I've committed to it, and now I find myself inspecting the car daily for any tiny bubbles or signs of peeling. So far, it's holding up well.
I paid $1,750 for the front XPEL PPF wrap which included tucked-in wrap of the front bumper, hood and front fenders.
That much for protection wouldn’t just a new paint job when ur car wear down be more practical?
That's my plan.
You can’t get another factory paint job. That’s the whole reason why ppf was created. Not for those who don’t care if they lose their factory paint.
No? The entire point is to protect the factory clear coat with some sort of hydrophobic layer. Getting a new paint job would be the equivalent of doing a perfect paint correction, and then just leaving it to get destroyed again
@@thegumbychronicles4892be honest with yourself though, you won’t. You’ll just let it degrade and have something else you wanna spend the money on in a couple years. You’ll say it’s not worth it im just going to get a new car in a couple years. So why not do it up front when your car looks nice and you already spent 40k, so what’s a couple more
@@denttime Thanks for the info.
This video has been a year ago. Im very interested how is the car now after a year? I know PPF doesnt completely protect your car from all rock chips but I want to know if its worth spending 10K$ for all this pain protection? You car looks amazing on this video by the way. If you can keep that for a year or 2 or even more I guess its very well worth it.
Your car looks amazing! 😍
Thanks
I never hear any mention of the high traffic surfaces inside the doors. Do they typically apply PPF to the door sills? This would also carry the look inside if going with a matte finish over glossy paint. Thanks.
More than my car! 😂
Pretty good video
This was super helpful! Do you have recommendations on what the best way to wash a Model Y with PPF + Ceramic coating on it?
Making a video on it now. I use the Elite Finish waterless car wash and detailer.
1,600-3k sounds about right in the front for ppf. Ceramic coating paying 3k that’s if you have to do multi steps to bring the clarity and nice glossy paint back to life. 1k for ceramic sounds about right
how come some people claim that if you do PPF there is no need to do a ceramic coating. Any tips?
What brand and type of ceramic coating they applied on top of PPF?
hey what brand mudflaps do you have installed??
For those who live in a hot desert area like Las Vegas, will lifespan of protection be decreased?
What percentage is your tinted windows?
This color is amazing in person.
Check out the new stealth gray color on the Model Y. Mine looks almost black in some light.
Wow! Those are crazy prices.😮😮😮
I would do it only if it's a really expensive car, which meant I had a lot of money to spend.😊
How much did it cost you do to the full PPF?
Judging from the cost for the clear bra, I can't imagine how they would PPF the entire car for anywhere near $4800. Just my experience, when ceramic coating wheels, you have to get the barrels. That's a must in my opinion if you're doing the wheels.
this makes the Tesla prices not seem too bad
Is this glossy PPF?
I did ceramic coating on my Model 3 for $900 at a car detail shop. It's 5 year protection.
I mean if your gonna keep that car forever might as well as take care of it rly good right?, The thing w/ battery carsthough is they dont appreciate, it always deppreciates =(
what did you use to make your emblems black?? great video.
They removed and professional sprayed them
At a different business in San Diego, having my Model Y done this week. 100% PPF (12-year Warrantee) and 100% Ceramic (Lifetime Warrantee) $7,674. Hope it's worth it.
absolutely not, you can get a paint job for less
Does it prevent against scratches from water and water marks
Yes.
Wow that’s more then they charge in my region..
my question is how long does the ppf last ?
They have long warranties
Hello . Brand new to tesla here . Do I really have ppf or ceramic coat a tesla ? I’ve owned multiple luxury vehicles and never did any of these treatments and they seemed to last fine . In your honest recommendation do I need any of these treatments? Also can I use a normal car wash for a tesla ? Thanks v much
It’s all preference. Some people simply don’t mind or care how their car looks over time and some do. I like to think of it as getting a protective case for your phone. Sure you don’t have too, but nothing wrong with a little added protection in case. It’s all up to you.
@@TeslaoftheDay yeah, but an iPhone case isn’t 1/5th of the price of the phone. And even if it was, that would still only be $200-250. Your car is beautiful, but I can’t justify the cost on what is still a depreciating asset.
@@worldtrav72 Some people buy a car knowing they will beat it up. Some buy it and want to take care of it and make it last a little longer. There's no right or wrong, just preference.
Teslas are notorious for awful paint jobs. Its not uncommon to see contaminants under the paint, chips, or scratches, straight from the factory. Add in the painted exposed bumper and you have a car more susceptible to rock chips and general paint damage over time. Despite all this, Tesla owners love their cars and are willing to spend big bucks to protect the paint. I personally think its crazy. Its also not uncommon for owners of other luxury cars to get their front ends, PPF'd. That's what I would do, then keep it moving. On a brand new car, its not that difficult to Ceramic coat your own car. The difficulty is in the prep work, which is significantly less on a new car. (You still have to clay bar it though).
That’s so much money! It’s like another down for another car!! I don’t know about all that..plus why would you ceramic coat over the PPF that’s very expensive. Question, I made an order to get my Model Y PPF’d, but a friend of mine said that if I was to polish it, it won’t last as far as shine.. so I just changed my mind and just decided to get it ceramic coated because it would always be in the sun.
If you need to know the difference between ceramic and ppf watch my other video.
Does this affect any tesla sensors, antennas, or cameras?
No
I have a serious question… I just had ppf and ceramic put on my 23’ model Y but I got a feeling they only put Rain X on it instead of ceramic. (I saw a bottle of rain x at shop). How can I tell if it’s true ceramic vs. just rain x?? Please and thank you.
You paid good money I assume. Go talk to them. You got to go with a shop you can trust.
@@TeslaoftheDay yes but you know they would never admit to jip me on the ceramic
If you can’t ask them after spending a couple grand with their shop, not sure anyone will help you. Never know unless you ask. Just ask them how was it applied and what did you use so I can explain it to others when they ask me.
Place a bead of water on it and see how it runs. Go through 2 or 3 car washes and if it's ceramic the bead of water should run the same for a couple years. If it was rainX it will have washed off.
$10k for ppf and coating. Wow.
Hi! I just got my Tesla MYP, same interior and exterior as yours!! before I ordered my car I saw yours and love how it looks. I got the same mud flaps, mats, etc! I wanted to ask about your headlights. I noticed that they aren't as bright as mine and yours blend in so well. are they tinted? PPF? what exactly did you use? thank you in advance!
STEK NEX window tint.
20% front two (matches factory rear glass)
70% Windshield (basically clear)
STEK DYNOshade tinted PPF on headlights and taillights
I paid $400 to ppf the front bumper. I ceramic coated the car myself.
What was your discount on the whole car for marketing them? I'm about to make a CZcams video on them so I can get some money off too
I got the same amount discount as you did from Clash of Zombies video games.
@Tesla of the Day great, so nothing. Hope that's a true statement. Just want to make sure it's an honest review.
That’s, uh, a whole lot of money to avoid a few rock chips (which would not be very visible on Midnight Silver Metallic anyway). Hopefully you got much of that comped since your videos are basically ads for the detail shop.
Apparently you haven't seem many silver metallic teslas front bumpers.
Also applying ppf doesn't add value to you car when it comes time to sell it. It may prevent slight damage, but how much would you discount a tesla with a couple of rock chips- maybe a couple hundred dollars? Nowhere near the 5 grand + you spent on the ppf.
@@pawpatrolnews I would think that for that price you might as well wait and just have it repainted years later when needed.
I only did the front bumper. It is too expensive to do the entire car.
Spending 7k to protect the paint on 40k car is insane
so I just looked this up for myself, and I was quoted $7K, this is > 10% of the brand new cars. Doesn't make sense.
Wow 🤩
I was confused as to why I recognized your voice. Lol.
If i did the math correctly, you're talking $10,000 min for all the ppf, ceramic coat, etc. It looks great, but that is just INSANE that it costs so much. There has to be cheaper alternatives. I recently got quotes for window tint....some pple quoted $500...some $200. I went with $250 and honestly it looks fantastic, warranty included.
Yes, there’s cheaper alternatives and installation variations. Some companies even make affordable DIY ones you can do yourself. You get what you pay for in most cases.
I’ve owned about 14 cars from Honda to Porsche and I’ve never protected my paint. I’ve never had an issue either. Why is the Tesla paint so sensitive that everyone adds thousands of dollars to it?
I drive a 90k Audi. Love them. Protect it.
Seems you have money...Get it 24 K gold plated also...It will look awesome....:P
24k wrap next
Hahahaha
I had PPF Full Front and ceramic coated the rest of the car. Now that it's done, I wish I had done a full PPF on the whole car. Oh well, that's a lesson learned for the next car. In my opinion, if you have a quality PPF that is coated, I think it's a waste of money to ceramic coat over PPF. My PPF has better hydrophobic properties than my ceramic coating.
PPF hydro is so good.
PPF doesn’t have any UV protection. It’s for paint scratches and chips. Ceramic is the way to go for long term paint protection especially if you live somewhere sunny. Personally I think PPF on the top of the car is overkill.
maybe there is a sponsorship opportunity, is there any way to get in touch with you,
Teslaoftheday@gmail.com
At $7k plus, That just cost 50,000 KW @ 0.14 per KW of charging or 178,000 miles @ 28 kw per mile. Almost 15 years break even at 12k per year and endless smile while driving priceless.
Or just don’t buy the car at all and save 100%
It’s like adding gold flakes on a steak and charge $300 for an 8oz steak
Why not just use the cost of the whole car ppf and ceramic coating for a high end wrap in 5 years??
What’s a high end wrap?
never understood why people pay a premium for ceramic coating when you can diy it for a lot less
Crazy costs, really. all that only costs that ridiculous amount in California, where folks are used to outrageous prices for everything, LOL. . Costs much less in Texas. Cheers
For that price i would tradein the car after 2 years and get a new one twice so you good for 6 years.
That's idolizing a car at this point.
Ceramic coat is such a rip off. They charge 1500 for a $75 bottle of ceramic coat
For these prices, i think ill eat a couple of rocks chips.
There goes my years salary
PPF a whole Y = 5-6K in SoCal
Ppf “expel ultimate plus” is over 6k in jaxsonville fl ridiculous. And no idea if it’s that or some cheap brand they just charged me for
@@loganlogan9757
If it’s STEK it’s a really good film.
That’s fuckin insane
7500 to PPF. 10 yrs later repaint car. 3k. 🤔
To clarify I’m saying it will cost more to PPF than repainting the car in the future
I’d love to see what you get for 3k 😬
@@TeslaoftheDay I work in the industry and paint jobs are usually 3-5k depending on the damage or job. Location plays a part as well but that’s the avg
Shit why go to so much trouble after the cost of everything you can buy a brand new one
Nice they cracked you on the head with a 800% mark up. Hey your money and as they say, “good deal is a good state of mind”.
To each their own 👍 if I go grocery shopping I’ll use your wing 😉
@@TeslaoftheDay wing? Well I wholesale cars if that’s what you referencing too…? Idk but the banks crack most of us on the heads with “mortgages”.
Thx for sharing. If you have the time, you could do the PPF yourself 🤷🏽
I let the pros handle it
Bro got another Tesla on top of the Tesla, it looks good…..but not at a $8k price point.
Model y is modern Prius. Dont waste your $$$$ on over maintaining the daily car.
Sweet car, can I get ride in your Prius? ~nobody 😂 and not to knock Prius. Your right, it is the modern day Prius. The Prius was groundbreaking for its time and technology has moved on.
Cost too much, almost 10% of the car’s value for wrapping the whole car. Imagine, would you pay 10% of your house value for painting? And painting a house is a lot more work and it’s a dangerous job too
Umm, touch up paint is $60...
How much???😂😂😂😂😂 You are nuts 🥜
I’d just paint it
Lmk how it goes.
Its crazy how people spend this much money on a car. its a car meant to be driven on the roads and get dirty, it will be replaced and won't last forever
When you drive a 1k$ car for sure you wont understand why people spend that much of money to protect their car.
I’m also getting a PPF and ceramic coating on top of it. It’s hard to explain but keeping your car clean and shiny just put a big smile and relaxing feeling inside.
Their money they can do what they want with it who complains about what other do with their money good or bad
I’m about to drop 5k on PPF and ceramic on the new M3P in addition to the car lol
Its insane to me that you pay $6500 for PPF when you could have the whole car repainted for less. You're protecting something that costs less to just have damaged and replaced. This would be like if you put a $2000 iphone case on your iphone that's worth $1000. I feel these shops are robbing people blind lol the materials cost maybe $500 full car and they charge $7000. There is no way the profit margin isn't massive.. Another thing to add, these companies sell you so hard and you fall for it. They are like you ever see those cars that have UC damage and specs on the hood? That's because no PPF, yeah no shit and the car is like 20+ years old. If you seriously think you're going to have this MYP for 20 years you're wrong, we live in a time where we keep our cars for like 3 years or less lets be real. So what you're really doing is spending massive money to protect the car for someone else 15 years from now. But even IF you did keep this car for that long to benefit from the PPF, you could of just had it repainted twice most likely for the same price. But hey things are worth what people are willing to pay right? If they charge $7000 and people are buying it..
Love the passion you have for this topic.
It's a personal preference but to me it seems people spend way too much energ, time and money trying to keep their Teslas looking new. It's just a car.
Def personal preference. Some people just like to keep their things a little more protected.
I take excellent care of my stuff. Won't go into detail. However, there's diminishing returns over time and a level of practicality for me personally. For instance, although Teslas seem to stay relatively the same for longer, most cars get a minor upgrade annually and a major change every 4 years. Also, cars depreciate. Most people will get a new car every 4-5 years. Keeping a Tesla 10 years is not crazy because they last longer and you get over the air upgrades. However, spending $10k for wrapping a $50-60k car seems ridiculous, especially since at the end of 10 years, you're going to get a new car and its paint condition is going to have nearly zero impact on resale value by then. Rather, spending $10k on body kit and other noticeble upgrades would be a better use of money imo. @@TeslaoftheDay
so could easily be $10K+ just on a condom on the car? nahh bruh, with that much I can just repaint the car fresh when the time comes
Might as well get a model x jk😂
thats more than just having your entire car repainted, waste of money in my opinion!!
The value is -50% will all of those 😂
Your comment makes -50% sense 😂
Yikes $4,500 to $7,500 ... LOL that completely erases ANY gas savings for its ENTIRE lifespan.
Didn’t buy it just to save gas.
it would be cheaper to just get a new paint job
Possibly. If you’re ok driving around with chips everyday then sure.
$10k in paint protection? ...this world is getting dummer and dummer...🤣🤣🤣💀🤦🏽♂️
Says the guy who started a tesla channel and apparently has nothing worthy to share 😂
@@TeslaoftheDayyou still got owned dude. 25% of the value spent in paint protection.. imagine spending $50,000 to protect the paint on a $200,000 house 🤣
Yea, I'd rather invest that cash and use it as a down payment on my next ev. It looks nice though.
That’s what I did first in before buying the car. $tsla 👍
Lol, right? 4,500-7,500 plus 1,500-3,000... YIKES. What a scam! Shit any scratches you get over its lifetime can easily be fixed for less. Not to mention, if you get into a wreck, you'll need to redo that stuff anyways. Waste of money. Sorry TOTD!
I feel like these ppf and ceramic is a great scam.
Best scam ever. I’d do it again.
Pricing is so stupid, way to much for plastic.
What about PPF the door jams
No ppf on the door jams. I did add a small strip of ppf to the rear door jam, just where my kids go in an out.
Honestly it’s a scam, it’s 3x cheaper to repaint the whole car than get full ppf
How much is a high quality paint job these days?
@@TeslaoftheDay around my area 3-4K even if it was 7k still cheaper than wrap, few shops I called want 10k+ for full car
10k for a full PPF? You're getting jacked. I can see 10k for a full paint job tho. @@Garage_doctor
This Ppf is too expensive it doesn't cost that much. This is a scam.
You lost me at 950-1500 for the front bumper. Sell the car and use that money for a down payment on a new one. Jesus
To each their own when it comes to how people take care of their cars. Some people don’t care, some people will opt for extra protection. Like buying a phone case.
This guy think his Tesla model Y is a hypercar is funny to me. 😅 Spending half the value of the car after 2 years.
Passing the cost of good paint and finish onto the consumer
Good job Elon 😂
