Brava!
While the prior item on the program (by 19th century Benjamin Godard) was delightful, I find this new work by the young composer more moving. Gypsy impressions, rich harmonies, the underlying pulse, counterpoint -- it's a wonderful composition. Nikka Gershman-Pepper also incorporates what might be fragments of traditional tango melody (?) -- if so, so freshly. Her use of the orchestral ensemble seems keen & knowing.
My only complaint is, the composition ends so soon. But it leaves us looking forward to more from this new voice.
